discrimination case

Perhaps then if the S/H CSM's are to do a rotating reserve line as in L/H then the argument of these 2 junior csm's will be redundant......

sydney s/h 6th April 2006 08:43

Lowerlobe,

Perhaps you right! But NO...the selfish old TAA girls who have been flying for 30+ years needed to get their 737 flying for 12months/year - not 11mths and then 1 month on reserve.

Trust me - there are some of the old boilers who haven't even worked on a 767 - let alone an A330. Disgraceful.

Rotating reserve for CSM's - it wont happen. And yes, i am a junior CSM who is forced on reserve and have to apparently do "my time" for approx 11years before i get rewarded with a roster - then it's the most junior crap roster thats around.

Like these old farts ever did their time on reserve - not knowing what your doing EVERY day until 3pm the day before, just get awarded an airport reserve.

Simply this problem could have been avoided if rotating reserve was put in place.

I am not in favour of what these people are doing and certainly dont agree with the way they are doing it - BUT -cant say it hasnt been coming.

Bad Adventures 6th April 2006 11:51

You’re right on the money there Sydney s/h. The top 4 old ducks in MEL actually do a ring around every month just before bids close just to make sure they don’t double up on any 737 patterns. I remember once when a 737 went belly up one day and the crew was then transferred to operate a 767. The old duck CSM went sick instantly. It’s a just a f**king joke!

As you say, it might not be the right way of doing things (what these 2 are doing) but with this kind of bull!!!!! happening, it really was only a matter of time!

welcome to the world of casuals

hey syd s/h

welcome to what casuals go thru everyday, not knowing where u may go and do until the day before, or 2 hours before u are supposed to sign on!

not having a go at u, we are all in this together, please dont take offence. Ur not the only one suffering, but hey its our job and we have to do it

the slave:p

hawke eye 6th April 2006 12:28

Hey mamslave,
no you don't have to do it.I'm sure there is no offence taken by those reading your post , but it boggles the mind why people such as yourselves sign up for casual conditions with no guarantee of fulltime employment.
It is assumed that you believe or hope you will be offered a fulltime / permanent position one day in the future.
Perhaps casuals need to negotiate a guarantee of full time /permanent employment after a period of time, such as 2 years, for themselves when starting their contract.
As the new IR laws so clearly advocate it is up to you to negotiate on your own behalf.
Please let us all know what they say when you do ask.
good luck:ok:

mamslave 6th April 2006 12:37

heya

hey hawke eye

i never said i was interested in a full time position:eek: i like the flexibility of picking which 10 days a month I want to do. (am on contract a) I took the job knowing its casual, and am not interested in working full time. Yes there are those that desperately want full time, we all hear it from them all the time. These people took this job as it is the only way they are able to fly for QF mainline. Don't hold it against me or others because its casual, thats the companies decision, not ours. I am sure if you ask around, many will say they like the flexibility of their contracts. however those coming onto contract (c) will have no flexibility what so ever. Personally I would not take that contract, but again its up to the individual, and how much they really want to fly.

One minute you are suggesting your suffering with us, the next you like having flexibility.

One minute you say you took the job knowing its casual and you don't want full time. So exactly what is it you are suffering?

Mamslave your post is confusing. I can't take offence when i don't understand the point you're trying to make.:hmm:

Then you chose to post the following

I like the flexibility of picking which 10 days a month I want to do
so which is it?
Mamslave, if the situation ever arises and you have to one day negotiate a contract you might be better off if you get someone to do it for you:D

sydney s/h 7th April 2006 00:29

MAMslave and GIGs,

If either of you have to apply for a fulltime position or have to sort out a contract then good luck!

I hope you both speak better than you type on here!

mamslave 7th April 2006 01:12

hang on

gees why is it that u twist things people. All I am saying is that:
  • Yes as casuals there is flexibility to chose what days u want to work
  • However when we work, we sometimes do not know what duty or where we maybe going, so it makes it hard to plan around family commitments.
  • Fulltimers are not the only ones being hard done by! (and im not talking about myself here, talking about other casuals)
  • Being a casual is flexible, yet it does your head in at the same time.(just ask your fellow casual crew) Not getting a full roster, or only finding out what duties you have a week out is a bit poor by the company.
I am going to leave it there, you will not understand unless you are casual. I would like to ask other casuals to jump in and say things as well.....

cartexchange 7th April 2006 02:42

Mr Gigs

"Que" ?

radiation junkie 7th April 2006 03:16

On a final note!

It does not matter whether you are casual, full time, part time, mam, LHR base, s/h, l/h, scab etc. We all know which way Qantas wants to head, and basically, apart from their management bonus scheme, they don't give a rat's. They know if we don't like what is "going down", we can all leave and there are 10'000 plus ("me" generation) bunnies out there waiting to take our positions for lower pay, lower conditions, more hours work.
"Them's the facts, M'am, nothing but the facts"

sydney s/h 7th April 2006 04:27

You want to swap conditions for a week?

That would mean you can't knock back duties and get to pick whatever day off you like.

Handle that? Probably not.

Ohh, and then you also wouldnt be able to bitch about how hard life is being a casual for 1 whole week!! Nope....you probably couldnt do that.

mamslave 7th April 2006 06:08

mmmM!

hey sydney s/h

I'm sure if people swapped with u, they would not complain like u. They would be happy with staff travel, having a permanent very very well paid job, and all the other benefits.

Casuals can not knock back a duty easily! i dont know where you got that one from?

if its so bad why don't people leave? i just don't get it!:bored: :bored: I guess if u were a casual for one week sydney s/h you to would find it hard not to bitch!!!!

crew-use-only 7th April 2006 11:14

Rosters are out!
Enough of this crap, its time to end this selfish seniority crap!
oh well, have to go sick on 3 trips!

speedbirdhouse 7th April 2006 11:21

Mmmmm......

"Selfish" system eh?

"enough of it", eh?

Why?

Because it doesnt suit YOU?

Riiiiiiiiiiiiight.............

crew-use-only 7th April 2006 11:24

yep it doesnt suit me!
share it around! and what is wrong with that! EHHHHHHHHHH.......
bring it on! bring it on the sooner its made fair and equitable the better.......

speedbirdhouse 7th April 2006 12:09

crew use only,

It is often said that irony is lost on the stupid..........

You will be pleased to be informed I'm sure that the FAAA will shortly be polling the membership to see if they wish to "visit" the issues re our seniority based bid system.

If we as a group decide that modification in some way shape or form is desired then they will be looking to us for input/suggestions.

I have been around long enough to remember the allocated rosters we were issued prior to 89 and would not wish to return to the days of "no choice".
"Some choice" dependant on your seniority is FAR better than no choice.

If you are capable of looking at circumstances other than your own, consider that thousands of US have built lives around choice.

Choice helps in allowing people to commute, manage family lives ect.
How many single parents [Mums AND Dads] would be forced from their jobs if they were unable to bid for short/day trips?

This system is not perfect but it does go a long way to fulfilling the needs of the majority of the 4000 or so of us.

Yes the top 10% get it all and yes the bottom 10 % get little in the way of choice.
Those in the middle get some of what they want and with progression their bidding power WILL improve.

Perhaps WE will vote to have some form of capping on unpopular or popular trips to provide something in the way of equity.

Whatever happens the change WILL be driven by us and it will suit [as it has to] the majority.

Or to put it another way, changes won't be driven by a handfull of selfish individuals at the expense of the majority..........

crew-use-only 7th April 2006 13:05

you just dont get it do you speedbird, what a lot of us get is a roster that is spat out by the computer the left over crap, no say no anything!
and you call me selfish!
its been years and years of this crap!
in my case any change is welcome, its better than this sh!t
why in the hell should I support your lifestyle?
You stated that you built your life around choice, well I simply cannot build my life around choice, I have NONE... get it.
so mums and dads will be forced from their jobs! BIG deal, they will have to get used to what I have been dealing with!
NO speedbird, not anymore! had enough! I'm glad that those s/haul f/a have started this, the selfish never want to share!
Can you tell me again how much longer I have to support your lifestyle?
I agree with most of your posts but not on this issue!
didnt your mum and dad teach you the basic manners of "sharing":ok:

speedbirdhouse 7th April 2006 13:19

C U O,

I support some form of "capping" that will limit the number of trips available to an individual but still allows the MAJORITY some choice.

An ability to swap trips [put trips in a "bucket" and take out others] without interference from Ops [as is available the other airline crew] would also be constructive.

What EXACTLY do you propose as an alternative the the present system?

Oh BTW.
The bidding system gives me nothing that I bid for and have no children to support.
