CC Career Development Question
Hello,
First-time poster :). I just wanted to ask about the career development path/different jobs and hierarchies that are involved with cabin crew as I cant seem to get a definitive answer by searching! Flight attendant Purser (is there an assistant purser?) Cabin Services Director/Cabin Chief? Crew controller/rosterer (is this ground based?) Is their any other roles in the chain? Can anyone help! |
Hi
Can only tell you about Virgin as each airline is different. At VS you start as econ cabin crew, then get promoted to "Senior" (working in the upper class cabin), then C.S.S (used to be Purser) and finally F.S.M (in-charge). There are loads of office based jobs like rostering and crewing and crew support managers etc. On board promotion is now all done on "performance monitering rather than length of service so if you were really keen, you could in theory be F.S.M in about 3 years....but that's a whole other thread!!!!!!! Hope this helps and any questions, feel free to P.M me! x |
at BA connect, you start as a junior, then get promoted to purser! and thats it!! unless like me you get told to apply for purser, then get turned down because you care too much bout pax and crew!!

Hi,
As previous posts state it varys from airline to airline but there is pretty much a standard route...start at the bottom and work up whilst keeping your eyes open for any opportunities on the ground that might give you some more relevent experience for forthcoming promotions. If you want a meteoric rise through the ranks then it might be worth looking at the LO CO airlines, where turnover is greater which creates jobs (why?). Some of the charter outfits and better schedule carriers have a low turn over at the top which makes progression a little slower. But on the personal side I think its worth bearing in mind that its the nature of the job that keeps you in it. If you enjoy being crew and you like the company and its conditions then promotion will come second to your lifestyle. 6 |
