what exactly is a back to back flight? b2b

Hi there xtra crew. It's basically when you do one longhaul flight followed by another one.

For example:

20th London-Miami
21st Miami-London
22nd- Land in London and stay in hotel for 1 nt
23rd London-Chicago
24th- Chicago-London
25- Land in London

I think they can be up to 8 days long. Hope itanswers your Q

not quite accurate polly because ( up till now and please dont let it start ) mia is not involved in any of our rostered back to backs

a back to back usually only involves east coast states/ canada for ba crews. ( and that according to ba includes ord and dtw )

it involves four transatlantic sectors in as little as five days

e.g

lhr-jfk night stop
jfk-lhr night stop
lhr-iad night stop
iad-lhr

they can be as little as five days for some bostons and washington dc's, where the layover is barely more than 12 hours or up to an 8 day trip where the itinery is as follows

lhr-jfk
jfk-lhr
lhr-ord
ord-iah-ord
ord-lhr

Xtra Crew
A Back to Back is where a crew member is rostered to operate 2 flights together i.e a 3 day LGW to XYZ followed by a night in an airport hotel at LGW on their return from XYZ then back out on another 3 day trip.

They also get a hotel between trips, full UK allowances and an additional back to back payment of about £130 I believe.

The number of cabin crew back to backs (at LHR at least) is being progressively reduced as more cabin crew are recruited.

The back-to-back payment (shoot me down) is £186.00.

This reflects a little of the oeprating efficiences gained by BA in rostering back-to-backs.

After an east coast US/Canada trip we will ALWAYS get 3 clear days off (plus arrival day). This is the same whether it is a night-stop (3 day trip) or a 5 or 6 day b2b. So the savings b2b's generate for BA are obvious. Although there are rumours that BA are debating their feasability.

Without b2b:

Day 1: LHR/JFK nightstop
Day 2: JFk/LHR
Day 3: Arrive LHR
Day 4: Off
Day 5: Off
Day 6: Off
Day 7: LHR/BOS nightstop
Day 8: BOS/LHR
Day 9: Arrive LHR
Day 10: Off
Day 11: Off
Day 12: Off
Day 13: Next duty............

With a b2b:

Day 1: LHR/JFK nightstop
Day 2: JFK/LHR
Day 3: Arrive LHR - Crew Hotel

For christ sake, why on earth do people insist on publicising the amount of money that crew at BA earn?!?!

BA crew are constantly being ribbed on here for being perhaps the best paid in the UK. That's not our fault. Hell, if you were being offered the money that we are earning, you wouldn't turn it down - I guarantee.

The thing that most of you seem to forget is that the more you earn, the more you could stand to lose. If, say, Virgin were to look at cutting costs of cabin crew, they would struggle. VS crew work very hard for little reward (in comparison). If BA management looked to save costs from their crew, it would be a relatively easy task.

People in BA have built lives on their current earnings. They've taken on mortgages, loans, car payments etc. based on what they take home at the moment. Any cut to this would have a MASSIVE impact on their lives. It certainly would mine. We are at risk of this while those working for less reward are equally at less risk of having their income cut.

I'm not looking for sympathy. Far from it. I'm just hoping that instead of constantly attacking BA crew because we happen to work for a company that pays us well, people will realise that we are perhaps more in danger of the brutal cost cutting that is commonplace in this industry than any of our colleagues at other airlines around the UK.

Every time BA earnings are discussed, it's done with massive amounts of negativity and I fail to see why. Bitterness? Jealousy? Why should it matter? If you've got a gripe with what we earn, take it out on the company and not on the crew.

And BadlyDressedNigel, you're obviously incapable of having a civilised discussion without having the occasional underhanded dig at those with opinions different to yours.

I think BA get good value from their crew. We have a low basic salary so only really cost BA money when we are on duty instead of at home sick etc. I have no problem saying what I earn or no shame. I know if I earn a good months pay i've worked really hard. and if i've been a lazy git at home, my take home pay will reflect this.

OK, if we compare what we earn eith VS there is a big difference. But as has already been pointed out in other threads they are underpaid, not us overpaid.

But I have friends that work for Air France and Iberia. By comparison, in real terms, they take home more than I do working for BA.

:ooh: Why are BA CC payments being broadcast on this forum? Please stop doing it folks, it only adds to the ill feeling that a lot of people have towards us.

B2b limit is 10 days EG LGW BGI followed by two nights rest then BGI GND GND BGI followed by 24 hrs rest then BGI LGW And then you do the whole thing again.Used to be very popular.

As someone who applied to a few airlines, accepted one and is waiting to start, the thing that really put me off at the beg. was no one giving me honest estimates of how much I could earn or telling me really what was happening (e.g. crew morale levels, non commercially sensitive plans, etc). Everyone is so vague.... so, a smart young (well I feel young) lad like myself decided that forums for crew wannabes don't give the solution so I found out myself how much I could earn at BA by going here:

It has a breakdown of EF payments for all categories of crew. You can even read the WW handbook if you're inclined.... in fact you can learn alot about the trials and tribulations of airlines (how many pursers were "recreated" by GB, lack of food and drinks on BA EF, what plans are really being discussed for LGW onefleet, do CSD get more trips than Pursers....) by looking at their pages.

If it's on the internet here, it can't be sacred information - and it puts a perspective on the posts which say airline A is fab (written after the poster has flown for 3 weeks) or airline B is cr*p (written by someone who doesn't even work there!)
