What's a tiger?
 

Just a silly question from the other side of the closed cockpit door.... I have been studying the cabin manual of the airline in which I work, and stumbled upon something I really didn't understand.
The manuel states that cabin crew are not allowed to serve alcohol for escorts to deportees (DEPA) and for tigers? So what is a tiger anyway, surely we are not transporting wild animals :)
My best guess is that it is some ECAC abbreviation or something. Please enlighten me, I need to know about this tiger business.

Apparently if you give alcohol to a tiger they get very aggressive and may bite.

If it's Singapore Airlines, I have heard their crew being nicknamed Tigers by some pilots.

I am flying for a low cost carrier, and none of the CCs' I have asked knew the answer... Guess I will have to ask the author of the manual.

My guess is that you're working for an airline based in Switzerland where the so-called Tigers are plain clothe policemen paid by the Bundessicherheitdienst, i.e. by tax payers. They are not keen on flashy orange and black stripes but normally carry a leather holster with a heavy metalthing in it, which sometimes turns out to be largely as dangerous as a Tiger bite. :}
