Best and worst dressed

I thought I'd start a new thread for a laugh.
what are the best and worst airline uniforms you have seen?

I remember waiting to board a PSA (San Fran) flight and noticed this white trashy chick on the phone, I thought she was a hooker (Hot pink mini and way too much tinnie gold jewellery) I nearly choked when she came down the aisle pushing the trolley. I couldn't believe what she was wearing, I mean it was mid eighties not 1969!

trolleydolly737 11th September 2005 16:36

The best one doing the rounds on the "LoCo" side of things has got to be Jet2.com! Very smart and pro looking!! ;) The worst... by far has got to be easyJet! :yuk: What's all that about?:} Funny, their uniforms are the same colour as our Gash Bags!!! Hehe!:D

ChewyTheWookie 11th September 2005 22:58

The worst by a long way has to be the the uniform of the low cost carrier "Nikki" from Austria... I'll try to find a picture...

iskandra 11th September 2005 23:01

I have to admit I've always liked the Tartan uniforms the British Caledonian staff wore....but I last saw them in 1988, and I was only 15 years old at the time.... :p

ricciricardo 11th September 2005 23:38

TD 737, please tell me (sorry if I sound naiive) what is a 'gash bag'? I have some wacko ideas conjured up here!!!!!

SunnySideUp99 12th September 2005 10:28

I would say that the Gulf Air and Etihad Airways uniforms are very smart. I like the veils....

They seem to have very good looking girls too.....

Easy jet uniforms are vile!!

Oh, come on. BMI Baby - a T shirt & an anarak, got to be worst ever anywhere in the world. Contrast with Jet2.Com another loc-co, but very smart & professional.

SkySista 12th September 2005 12:20

I was thinking of the BMI baby ones as well..... ewww..... also that Nikki one mentioned... I have seen the picture before but Google brought up nothing... kind of what they thought 'space age' clothes would be in the 60's!! :E

Emirates of course, the hat is such a symbol.... I love the 60's Pan American uniforms with the white gloves and nice bags... I think the little details make the uniforms. Such as stylish accessories, gloves, scarves etc....

The new Air France uniform is tres chic ;), I quite like the retro little hats on the BA pictures I saw....

The Qantas one was nice when it first came out but sometimes now it looks a bit tired... though the 'crocodile' luggage is different! :p The new AO one looks a bit better without that beige puffy jacket thing...

Loved the last Ansett uniforms of course; just something about the way they put it all together...

But, like a lot of people, the uniforms of the Asian carriers are very nice... Singapore Airlines at the top, and a rather nice Thai(?) one with the part that drapes over the shoulder (not very practical though I'm guessing!)

I haven't seen many more of the latest versions being sported, one of the Chinese airlines had a striking array of pink/purple/blue dresses & suits with the Mandarin collars - they were nice and colourful!! :D

EasyJet - if it is the one I am thinking of... (not nice at all!), the old Delta "prison warden" one... ugh... can't say I like Air New Zealand's old blue/black jacket (have they changed it yet?) plus a few I've seen around... though the new Delta red/black one is quite interesting (hate those weird gloves though - and that dress!! WHo is going to wear that?!) Nice to change uniform but how about spending money on paying wages first??

Will stop here before we get thread drift... :p

Virgin Blue gets my vote, especially for their figure hugging uniforms - style and I'm told crew find them comfortable too.

Qantas is nice for their Morrisey suits (ladies and gents) but their ladies dresses look like they're from the 70's!

American look terrible - maybe it's more that their staff take less pride in their appearance.

Virgin Atlantic always look spectacular, and there's something about a red uniform too.

Aero Lingus - no thanks!

SkySista 12th September 2005 12:46

ooh yes, forgot VS and DJ.... I actualyl hated the Virgin Blue uniform at first... but it's grown on me.... I like the shirt it's quite smart... while the skirt colour is not the prettiest it is sort of "Aussie" and the red adds a nice touch... I like their belts....

VS - as said, red uniforms just have that "something"... now if EK were to have red uniforms..... or red trims.... hmmm I'm getting post deja-vu ;)

jettesen 12th September 2005 12:54

What difference does a uniform male to be really honest?? it doesn't change who is underneath it.. There are a lot worse than easy jet - first chioce for example I wouldn't be seen dead in a cerise pink shirt!

The easyjet uniform is practical for what they do, and considering that they have to clean their own aircraft, why wear something smart only to get manky throughout the day.

SkySista 12th September 2005 13:09

jettesen,

for some people the uniform DOES make a difference. It helps them to feel 'at home' in their role. For example, how a policeman would gain a little of their confidence from their uniform perhaps??

Honestly can you say you weren't proud when you first put on your uniform??? :) I know some people really don't give a $%^# but a lot of them do. And besides, it's fun to see everyone's ideas on what they like the most and what they like the least... to each their own....!

I for one would not turn down the red hat if it were offered to me! :}

Gash bag

ricciricardo

A gash bag is a trash bag basically. Not sure where it came from but when I joined Qantas they looked at me like I was some kind of freak when I asked where the gash bags are stored?

I think it must be a european thing as I worked for european airlines before I joined the rat.

sinala1 12th September 2005 20:07

I got chatting with some Air Atlanta crew on the bus to the carpark today - their uniform is *very* smart, particularly the male version of it! Very nice...

I like the EK uniforms, always nice (the girls look great in the red hats with veil); the QF Morissey suit is nice although *not* a fan of the aboriginal print dresses; DJ is very comfortable to wear although it crushes very easily and does not leave a terrible lot below the waistline (on the guys) to the imagination.....

(Ditzy, QFSky and associated posters get your minds out of the gutter! You know who you all are :p )

A330habib 12th September 2005 20:20

most uncomfortable would have to be etihad, those hats that wrap around the neck are really uncomfortable

the shirts are really hideous, and they tend to soak up every bit of sweat the body produces!

the pants the males wear have pleats on them! ewwww and the cut is not flattering at all

and the colours!:yuk: Grey i mean really!! can anyone tell me which other airlines have school uniform grey as a colour? whatever was Ettore Billota thinkin! (italian designer)

Uniforms

Red is certainly a striking colour, especially in the bland hum-drum of an airport. Virgin atlantic make a really bold and glamourous statement, especially in their winter coats. Likewise the exotic and eye-catching hats with veils of the Emirates crew (shame about the shoes and handbags though, what a let down, take a closer look!) However, the most awful uniform accessory I've ever seen was in Austria - check out those HIDEOUS red tights the crew wear!!! :yuk:

ricciricardo 12th September 2005 21:24

qflhr.

Thanks for the clarification of "gash bag", I can certainly appreciate the perplexed look you would have gotten from the QF boys (especially the dinky di Aussie blokes) and I bet a few of the ladies would have turned a shade of crimson?

ETIHAD uniforms being attractive????
Come on now.....everytime I flew with them, I felt like being surrounded by funeral wardens! And the boys looking like glorified Bell Boys somewhere in Fantasialand....
EK, however......hmmmm....nice, pleasent and dynamic! Somewhat less so the boys... :-)

Cheers!

Oh....just to make sure: My comment only referred to those uniforms...NOT to those who are stuck in them!
There, infact, EK has quite a few very good ones, seriously!

Oh....and A330Habibi....did you ever check on what kind of 'briefing' that famous Italian Designer got before he set out to work???? ;-)

Cheers again! :-)

qantas crew

We look fantastic in our print dresses, it is such a sexy uniform don't you think! When we walk through the airports, especially in Singapore and Hong Kong People just stare. I think that the other parts of the uniform are a little dull but the print dresses are fab!

smile 13th September 2005 06:33

the red adds a nice touch... I like their belts....

Skysista... you would be suprised about how many passengers ask me where they can get a red belt like the one on our uniform.

and does not leave a terrible lot below the waistline (on the guys) to the imagination.....
Sinala... I have also noticed that with each re-issue of uniforms that the buttons on the blouse keep moving position. I have not changed size in the blouse the whole time I have been with DJ, but I swear that the top button keeps moving south!!!
