OZJET update
Hi guys,
Just thought i would update you all as to whats happening at OZ. Well thankfully i got into the first training school (off the holding pool), along with a few other people. To date we think 07 could be flying as early as late october (I hope). Again, if there are any other people on the holding pool or even waiting to start pm me. So far we know of about 6 melbourne based crew. Maybe a little late but we are all meeting for drinks tonight (in Melbourne 8 september) and any people on the holding file or clearance to start is more than welcome to join us. Just pm me for the details. cant wait for it all to happen! |
Thursday night drinks
:) Hey Anth1980,
I will be there! See you tonight! ;) Stillontheground (but perhaps not for much longer!) :ok: PS: Check your PM's. |
Centrelink
I suppose you are still collecting centrelink payments while you are waiting?
Get a real job. :yuk: |
:8 Surprise Surprise! We mentioned the "O" word and guess who came running???? Gee, this thread has been up at least all of 24 hours!
What's wrong Legal? Not up to your usual standard I see. :{ boo hoo... so you weren't invited ... And we couldn't care less whether or not you wanted an invitation! Maybe, if you got to know us a bit better, you would know that we are already getting paid.. and no... we are not collecting unemployment either! Perhaps its you that needs to get a life. I'm guessing you don't have any friends. We are ALL sick to death of your comments! You have become a joke. But thats ok. If you want to continue making a huge fool of yourself, go right ahead. I have said all I have to say to you. EVER. :yuk: By the way Anth1980, it was a great night. Nice to finally catch up with you! Same goes out to the other people who attended... You all know who you are. ;) |
Getting Paid and No Revenue
Ho Ho. Getting paid and not doing any work! Wow. Do they pay you for 8 hours full time of sitting around doing nothing or is it casual or part time.... just sitting around......doing nothing. I suppose redunadant Ansett staff are doing the training!!!
Oh, and of course, we know who you are too don't we? - just to be certain. Getting back onto the subject, if you want to tell your bosses about marketing an airline for a start up in October, be sure to remind them that a load factor build of 50% can take up to two months and Qantas and Virgin Blue currently have SALES over the period. So good luck with the losses and don't forget to put your centrlink form in. :} Oh by the way, make sure the company puts enough away for your statutory benefits. Are you on AWAs? |
Yet again negative comments have come into a thread, my suggestion to all involved with Ozjet, let "legals" comments go unchecked! Congratulations to all who have gained employment with OZ. The simple fact is that Oz will offer a product that will be first rate in Australia and I believe, with experience in 2 airlines that it will get going. Realistically they will need newer aircraft to be completely viable and it will be interesting if Mr Stoddart sells Minardi as they are currently talking with interested parties such as Red Bull Racing for a buy-out. The other thing to consider is if a Star Alliance carrier may get involved as a part owner or full such as Singapore etc. - would make good & cheap business sense! Good luck, it may become David vs Goliath
Legal Counsel... Why don\'t you just crawl right back into the rock that you have come from!! People like you who obviously get off on making cheap remarks about things you know nothing about are pathetic. FYI there were al ot of ex Ansett staff that actually took their own lives due to the that collapse , maybe you should think before posting the negative crap on this forum. Maybe these people that have been given jobs with Ozjet are just looking for something to give them a smile on their faces. They certainly don\'t need the !!!! that you have dished out. If you are infact an airline crew member you would surely appreciate how hard it is to get in and how you felt when you got the call to say you had been successful. Not to mention the fact that these jobs and the companies are all in a volatile position at the moment. |
Crikey
I will need to watch the time as I am doing this on my laptop and this damned battery keeps getting hot.
Anyway, look I can assure you I am not flight crew OK so relax. However, I do see your point that it is exciting to be given a new chance. But look, you do really need to be smart. Why is Minardi Up for sale? Because 0Z is running out of money right? It's owner has far more to gain by keeping Minardi because that is the jewel in the crown, not 0Z. So think about it. Scenario: OZ has to be able to repay it's dutch investor. If it fails, the dutch investor exercises a lien on OZ' aircraft. These aircraft are "leased" by OZ from the UK charter operation EAL. The effect of this is it may seek to have the UK charter operation wound up. Any application for a winding up could jeopardise your entitlements as OZ would be bankrupt. If you can afford to, take out some unemployment insurance. As far as Star Alliance is concerned, the product, whilst important,is not sustainable in a Star Alliance market place. Any suggestion that SIA may be interested in Ozjet is wishful thinking. SIA doesn't have to lose millions when it has the political clout it just dealt Qantas. :ugh: |
Note to LEGAL COUNSEL
Legal_Counsel,
This is the first non-emotional post on this topic that you have posted. Why didn't you say that in the first place and leave well alone instead of..... "I suppose you are still collecting centrelink payments while you are waiting? Get a real job. Ho Ho. Getting paid and not doing any work! Wow. Do they pay you for 8 hours full time of sitting around doing nothing or is it casual or part time.... just sitting around......doing nothing. I suppose redunadant Ansett staff are doing the training!!! don't forget to put your centrlink form in." ...which gives your posts even less crediblity given that you haven't operated as cabin crew for a start-up airline, or ANY airline. So the point of your demeaning comments were??????? :* |
Cold feet syndrome
I was on my way to doing the O7 thing but have politely withdrawn my interest (Many thanks Amanda for your understanding) There is just too much negative press and I just have this terrible gut feeling that I may have been jumping from the frying pan into the fire. I hope for the sake of those that are waiting for the confirmation and start up date that it all goes well. I may be unhappy with my present employment but at least the parent company does offer a sense of security (to a degree)!!? Good luck flyers. R
:ok: |
Good luck on a B737-200.

Looney Counsel
You annoying the cabin crew now? i really hope for your sake that no-one discovers your identity, everyone has to get on a plane sometime, especially in your profession. Jar Jar |
oh well.
some people dont care about the pay they're probably so passionate about the industry that they continue to pursue any new exciting opportunity because they dream about something positive rather then just see the negative. Maybe the negatives are just challenges that attract all the excitement...living on the edge. If people were so concerned about the pay or getting paid they probably should leave the industry altogether. good luck to everyone down there!! |
Times have changed
When I began my career in the air 23 years ago it was probably one of the most exciting things I thought would ever happen to me (I would have done it for free)! I'm sure this is the feeling many young people get today even with the drop in (relative) pay and erosion of conditions, it's a great job and you get to work with some of the most diverse personailties you could ever meet. I was originally going to do it for a year or so, get a couple of cheap trips under my belt and move on to a real life, alas, I became addicted and it's one drug I never regret taking!
I envy those that will be flying for the first time, OZjet would be wonderful starting point (good ol' fashion service and a sense of pride in your product). Go for it guy's, it's a good thing. :O |
|
I think we'll just leave it in the 'Believe it when you see it' catergory, but be positive for the 'flighties in the making' hanging out to dry.
 |
Both reports lack credibility in getting the basics right.
First of all, the first article states a source in CASA - how about putting a date to it? That quote sounds like the one from a few months ago, with the words twisted slightly. The second article is not correct, cabin crew recruitment is finished for the first phase, training isnt far off either. Ozjet is serious - I am sure many will be eating their words sooner rather than later. Finally, whats an airline without negative press? Tell me, did this stuff not pop up when Virgin started? In fact, virgin even had to cancel tickets! Ive been close up to virgins 737 (including when they had the 3/400), and most of QFs 737s and this 737-200 is in better condition than most of them, both inside and out. Its been looked after very very well. On the inside, the cabin looks newer than some of Virgin and Qantas' newbies after just weeks of flying. On the outside up close, theres not a ripple to be found - unlike many of Qantas' 737s. I remember quite distinctly Virgins VH-CZQ's fuselage aft of the wings resembling corrogated iron it was rippled so badly! Some of Qantas' are just as bad. Lets wait and see, but from what I have seen, this will happen soon. Oh and Legal, seems you are getting the reaction you deserve in dunnuda, IM LOVING IT - you have no credibility my friend. But you can rest assured that should you ever step on board Ozjet, the crew will have only the greatest pleasure in showing you just how wrong you are - by giving you the same great treatment as anyone else on board! Thats because they hired professionals! No doubt they will even take the time to sit and listen to you moan about something else and remain completely non judgemental (youll have to find something else soon when ozjet is in the air!!). As for the guy who turned it down - respect your choice. Its a big move to make - everything has a risk and we all assess it in our own way. From what I have seen lately, i'm very confident it will do very well and have no issues moving from interstate to a new place. (and im no idiot when it comes to these things - I have learnt the hard way about being 'trusting' in aviation - so it wasn't a decision I didnt research and look into thoroughly). |
The cracks are starting to appear.
It won't be long before the heavy word is put out that those who have been hired will need to wait a few more months. In that time they will be put off the payroll or asked to take a pay cut. The contracts wil start to evaporate, the costs will escalate, people will leave and then it's all over red rover.
Then to fly 16 services a day between Melbourne and Sydney do you seriously think there are that many passengers???? Get real folks, do your own sums. Dream on but make sure you have somewhere to go. Compass 3 here we come! Who's Amanda? Such a pretty name. :-) |

Maths
Zig Zag, the correct formula is
Assets = Equity + Liabilities :rolleyes: |
ozangel,
Thanks for respecting my decision to not go ahead with O7. As I am in my 40's with 2 mortgages and a helluva lot of other commitments I had to be realistic, if I'd been 21, bright eyed and bushy tailed with minimum responsibilities, I would have been at the airport, trolley at my feet ready to go. This forum is consistently bitchy. The industry seems so full of bitchy & bitter people that I am having second thoughts on having a career as a flight attendant. There's so much gossip on here that is taken so personally. No one has a Crystal ball. If people all knew the future wouldn't most of Ansett's staff turf their jobs to prepare for the collapse? Ansett once being a MAJOR carrier in Australia was replaced by a foreign player. Remember the press before VirginBlue started? There were critical remarks everywhere.
Who cares what people say on here it's just a forum full of 90% rubbish get out and get on with your jobs and lives. |
Phew exman! Bet you feel better for that little blast, you know your right tho.
;) |
Right Decision
Hi ricciricardo. I think you made the right decision. Sometimes you have to let go and get a different sort of experience under your belt to reduce or spread the risks. I remember a guy who used to work with CSIRO. He was a brilliant scientist who worked at times with such greats as Dr Strahan Sutherland, you know the guy that led the Sydney Funnel Web team and helped save all those lives from potentially fatal bites. I met him quite by chance at a dinner party. He had told me, that despite all the great things he did, he had just become an ordinary man like every one else finding it difficult if not impossible to re-enter the workforce just to make ends meet after paying out his wifes medical bills before she passed away. It's sad. It's the way we treat each other in society that is so, so sad as we get older.
As a female just on 32, I haven't yet experienced that but you wonder how it will go one day when you change that job or take that redundancy etc . And so for some of the 16,000 or so employees of Ansett there must be lots out there in your age group and older still with no place to go and they really cannot afford to take risks like Ozjet. I have often said to myself what would I do if I had kids and couldn't return to the work force because I decided to be a mum rather that keep attending seminars and so on. You know it's a hard decision when you have little pods to look after. I guess the day will come. My desire to follow a career could be my undoing in the end. I think we have to spend more time getting investments to work for us muich earlier and I am not short of a good portfolio on that score. However, when you have two mortgages, I can well understand the need to find secure employment or sail into the whirlpool of spiralling debt where there is no escape. Apart from that, I do agree, there is a lot of bitching on PPRUNE but then that's probably because people don't want to accept the views of others and get into some decent debate. ;) |
