BA - LHR Cabin Crew (EF)
Hi guys,
I've recently been offered a course with BA at LHR (EF) after taking a 5 year break from flying - previously, I worked in the charter airline market/sector for 13 years. I know the industry has changed significantly, however, I really have missed working as crew and the life-style it afforded me and I have therefore decided to give it another go. Albeit 'sheduled' this time. I have TWO main concerns though and would me most grateful if those of you that started flying with BA Eurofleet @ LHR this year (2005) could help me out with some important info: 1. Realistically, what salary would I be taking home in the first few months (during and post training). 2. Are all new recruits these days in the 20-22 years old age group, or did you have a mixture of ages on your courses this year? That may sound like a trivial concern to some of you, but I am 40 years old now (I know it's not that old and I certainly don't feel old), yet I don't want to stand out like the course 'oldie' on the ab initio course. 5 weeks can be a long time....if you know what I mean?? Anyway, please don't turn this thread into another anti BA debate, I really would appreciate some genuine and sincere replies to my questions. Feel free to send me a pm if you prefer. Thanks very much!! |
Hi.
Welcome to BA Eurofleet !!! I started training in April this year - the average salary was about £750 for April, May & June. (I did not start flying until mid-May, and allowances gained for flying duties are paid one calendar month in arrears - hence June was not a brilliant as I did not achieve a full month of allowances for May). The course was very enjoyable - there were 21 of us, with ages in 20's, 30's. & 40's. At 44, I was one of the more "senior" trainees - but we all got on very well as a group, probably due to our range of ages/experience. About one third of the course we either ex-flyers, or had joined as crew straight from another airline. I was completely new to flying (although I have worked for BA for 21yrs now). Let me know if you need any more info - and good luck on your course. Cheers, Huw. |
hey eurofleet, welcome to BA.
Money once on-line and with allowences averages around £1600 per month, depending on roster. With maximum trips and a bit of OT you can take home £1900-2100. I guess if you got a really crap roster youd be lookin at £1200-1300. The new recuits tend to be a mix on ages depending on the course. A lot are internal applicant from within BA, so there are sometimes quite a few ex ground staff on the course. When I started a few years back I had a 52 year old on mine, and I was the youngest (I was 25). |
Keeperboy - are you talking £1600 after tax, or gross?
Just to give me an idea whether I should continue with the online application ;) cheers ;) FF |
Welcome to Euro fleet.
Just to confirm the examples of my collegues, avg 1600 is take home pay, my worst month after training has been 1100 because i was on leave and my best is going to be this month around 2000 i think. Hope this helps and if you need anymore info just msg. good luck tino |
Enjoy it especially when the New Transfer list opens and Eurofleet Lgw are excluded from it ...
|
Oh My Goodness! That's loadsa money so will defo be finishing off my online application and getting it in today.
cheers guys ;) FF |
Hi there, i've got an upcoming interview with BA (gatwick) and after reading some of the posts, quite concerned that i might be too young. I'm 21, do they prefer people a bit older than this and with more experience?
Can you eventually transfer from gatwick to heathrow? Cheers :) |
MK124....
Dont worry...I trained with an 18 yearold and that was for Longhaul back when they were hiring direct into it! Dont worry about it! |
Hey MK,
21 is definately not too young. I was just 19 when I first started, and there's heaps of people around my age too, so don't worry at all!! |
omg! i didnt realise ba ef is on that much money. thats brilliant
|
Cheers guys, put my mind at rest. I heard that ba give everybody a 2-1 interview and that there aren't the dreaded eliminations like most other airlines, is this true?
|
Yes, that's true. You do the whole day of interviews, then you get the result by phone or in the mail a few days after the interview! And yes, there is also a 2-1 interview.
|
Thanks!!
Thank you to everyone that responded directly to my original question. The info you gave me is very useful and much appreciated, though I'm still not 100% sure what to do.....???
Thanks! |

its a great fleet to work for, most people are fab and its a great way to see europe you'll have a ball |
..enjoy it especially when the New Tranfer list opens and Eurofleet LGW are excluded from it... |
hi guys,
just got quick question...Is it true, if u want to work for any airline, u have 2be proper swimmer?? I'd really appreciate your answers. warm regards, Silvia |
Hi Tudor
I believe it's a reference to Long Haul transfer ( not available to LGW Shorthaul crew ) but being locked in the front cupboard for my working life I could well be wrong. :p |
Lets get one thing straight, excited new flyers... you should never quote salaries in a public domain - you have a private message facility for doing this ......
Also , i'd add these figures are inflated . . BA's rostering system allocates good trips for the first 6-12 months to build up a 'history' after that its all or nothing. I have been at EF LHR for over 12 years and do not take home those figures. some new people only just clear over £1,000/mth. It depends, but i havent been rostered a trip all summer, so don't go building your hopes up by some of the earlier quotes. Also, please be wary that there is currently an attitude problem among some new people  - this resulted in 9 people being sacked during a recent course, so please show all due respect to your training team and colleagues .... |
