i dont know what to do with myself!!
hi everybody,
what it is, ive got my training dates for gb airways and i have just signed them and i have got to send the letter of confirmation back. but i want to leave my current job now and have a nice big break until my training starts. but on the sheet it said it is still subject to references and i am scared that if i leave the current job and gb get bad references and it all falls through i would be unemployed. what do you think i should do, and has anybody left and waited for their training dates and it all fell through! just a bit worried |
I would ask myself, have I done anything to warrant bad references?
Don't forget your CRC - any criminal convictions that could come back and haunt you? If the answer to both of those questions is 'No' then I would leave my current job and take the long break, however, if the answer is 'Yes', I think I would contact GB for advice!!!!! |
And if you have lived outside of the UK at any point over the last 5 years make sure you have reference contacts for wherever it was, it proved a nightmare for me with BA!
Hope you enjoy GB, Iv loads of buddies flying there! |
Be careful about leaving your job. I have been through interviews 3 times with qantas and even after having refs checked, medicals and police checks done I was told I had been accepted but needed to wait for a course start date. Unfortunately the airline industry staff requiremnets can change so quickly. They may think they will put a training course through and then may nolonger need to. The first two times I applied I was on a wait list for a year and i am glad i did not quit my job cos at the end of the year they still had not called and I received a letter saying that my application had been on hold for too long and I would have to reapply. Be careful... Good luck it may be a totally different ball game over there. I am working for them now but this happened twice before I was finally accepted a few years later. I went through the wait list process (waiting for a training school) twice and on the 3rd time got through. Good Luck :)

Legally, an employer can-not give a bad refrance as it is regarded a slander.. It's what they dont say about you or refuse to give you a refrance..
Be carefull, when taking time out, after 9/11, the govemnet clamped down on airside secuity, including issue of passes(www.disclosurescotland.co.uk/airside.htm) they will want to know what you have been doing for a period of time and if you take time out, how are you going to quantify this? |
hi everybody,
thanks for all your advice i really appreciate it:O i have decided to stay until the very end just incase something goes wrong!! knowing my luck something will! not long to wait just another month to pull through! |
The statment that an employer can not legally give a bad reference is incorrect.
An employer can, and indeed has a legal obligation to your new employer, state facts pertaining to your employment with them. An example of this is that an employer state the number of days you have had off sick (although most don't) and if you have been dismissed along with the reason. Why do you think you will get a bad reference ? Shortm |
because i got a written warning under gross misconduct, because i missed 2 hours of college and still got paid!
im worried that the airline will not take me on because of it! my puntuality, attendance, sickness etc is very good |
I also have been accepted for GB cabin crew at MAN. Although i personally haven't received a training date as yet, I was told that i would be given enough notice to complete my notice at my current employer.
As long as you work your notice to coincide with the start of the training course, all should be ok. Ry. |
Actually, just had call from them. Start training 12th Sep. That same date as u Bozzy?
|
yep that s the same date as me!!! 12 sept. see you there. well i can talk to somebody about it now.
when did you have your interview, mine was on the 24 june and had to wait about 4 weeks until i got my training dates i have signed to confirm i will be there. i have sorted everything out with my diciplinary. i phoned them today and they were glad i told them and they are letting me still carry on. if you want to pm me or any info you need just give me buzz. cant wait, are you currently doing cabin crew or is it a new career for you. im a gardener and it is a massive career change. |
