Cabin crew sackings

I have just heard at work that a couple of BA Hosties were sacked for taking newspapers (that are taken by passengers as they board flights) to read on their positioning flight. They were in BA uniform at the time.
It seems far fetched to me but I wouldn't put it past a petty manager to do that.
I work for BA engineering and that sounds like a trick they would pull on their engineers.

Sounds like the kind of thing QF management would do to it's cabin crew.

The word out online is that its on the way.

Be warned.

sacked for taking newspapers

Or sacked for stealing papers? Does the BA policy permit crew to take papers after the flight?

Mutt.

Mutt the newspapers I assume are the papers that are at the top of the jetty that passengers help themselves to before boarding.

If there is any truth in the story, (it is only hear say at this time - I am hoping someone in BA cabin crew can confirm or deny the story), I can see a mandate from BA management for staff not to pick up a newspaper at the top of the jetty, along with wash bags etc.

Crew can take papers onto the aircraft, for customers to read in case they didnt pick one up from the jetty, crew can read these if leftover.

However, if they take them on leaving the aircraft to go off duty, that may be considered as petty theft and therefore is subject to disciplinary procedures.

Ozzie,
We also have papers onboard on Longhaul flights as we dont do papers at the gate for longhaul.

However I think this is all rumour about the sackings as I have not heard anything about this and beleive me this is the sort of rumour that if there was an ounce of truth it would be on Galley FM in lightening speed!!! Sounds more like a Qatar Airways thing!!!

I know I've been on longhaul for 15 years!!!!

Newspapers

It sounds like a BMI thing to me!

From someone I trust I was told a story about Austrian (or Austrian Arrows) sacking a purser for taking an open box of orange juice with her, before leaving the a/c for an overnight stop.

Although it is company policy that this is not allowed, she took it because the juice would have been thrown away and therefore she did not consider this as theft. Personally I agree with her - she stole rubbish, which did not contain some information and she did not violate any regulations regarding sanitation.

I think it is rather crazy to end the career of a reportedly fine crewmember this way, because of such a minor infraction which did not cause any harm or damage to the company. She was reported by the captain of the flight, after they had some argument.

Normally I do not trust such rumours, but as I said I trust the person I have the story from.

Regards, Bernhard

Is it really theft of newspapers?

I only ask as I didn't think the airline paid for them at all. I am certain that the media house provides them free of charge for 2 reasons, viz - to increase circulation, and to hopefully gain a new customer base.

cheers ;)

what i know

is that you are only suposse as cc to take your cc food and thats it.So anything else is like stealing.i dont think they got sacked 4 2 newspapers but im sure they got a warning.
Aparently some cabin crew tried to sell deli boxes to a petrol station so when BA found out they tried to tackle the issue by checking people
