Tomas Cook. Help
Could any of you (experienced T.Cook cabin crew, managers, etc...) tell me if NE cabin crew have any chance of being kept on after 31oct???
I started this year and no body is able to tell me what is going to happen! End of temporary contract and restart again in feb/march? Extension of this temporary contract until feb/march? who could tell me about it? |
I have many friends who work for TCX, and have done now for the 3rd season in a row.
They havent been kept on any winter, as has none of the other courses. They never keep on NE through the winter, but invite them back the following March/April. After you have done a few seasons they are more likely to extend the contract. Hope this helps. AEU, FJE and sometimes FCA are the only charters that consider their NE crew for permenant contracts. |
hi ive never had to do summer contract work, but out of interest, how many seasons can an airline, keep you on for,i thought maximum wass 2 or 3.
anyone know for sure thanks |
Its 3, at AEU there was s few people there who had had 3 temp contracts wth FCA, (then AMM) and didnt get another one.
Seems harsh! |
Hi
The answer is three, IF the contracts follow each other i.e no break. If you are laid off for the winter, then their is no limit to the amount that you can work before the company has to offer you a permanent position, or release you. Its horrible but that is UK employment law for you. With regard to TCX, I believe their is a list of whose suitable to be retained from the C4's and you progress alsong this list as permies leave. One girl tolk me, their was 10 in front of her and x amount behind. This was because it was her 3rd season and she was on the 1st or 2nd course back in JMC days. |
no body nows anything??

Hi jur99llk
TCX do sometimes keep people on over the winter - especially at the bigger bases (LGW / MAN). Last year, a good number of temporary crew were offered either a permanent contract or an extension through the winter. The winter is evidently busy at TCX and from what I have been told, things are looking good at my base (LGW) for contracts this year. I don't know about anywhere else. Good luck jur99llk - I hope you get kept on! Globe |
Thanks Globe for your information,
yes, my base is LGW. The busiest one. But my question is if NEW ENTRANTS have chances. What hapened last year? thanks again jur99llk |
winter work changes from year to year no 2 are the same .. as yet no idea of what work is coming up this winter maybe extended contracts might be offered would depend on the flights contracted and how many permenant crew take unpaid leave . With charter flying nothing is certain but hey never say never .... To be fair all new ents know from day one that its only a temp contract for the summer and anything else is a bonus .. as soon as def plans are made i am sure crew will be made aware
|
Hi JMCCREW, thanks for the information, but I cannot beleave this thing you say:"yet no idea of what work is coming up this winter". Of course tcx knows what work is coming up this winter!
|
Jur99lk,
TCX know from a charter point of view where they are going of course. But all charters do adhoc work to make ends meet in the winter. For example, at MYT we do The Hajj (330's), Bahrain, OZ(!)and this year Helsinki again and also Vietnam. Please do not insult those who know how the airlines work! |
I was speaking from a personal point of view with regard to "no idea what winter work as yet " . Given that the company have offered unpaid leave it will depend on how many permenant crew take this up as to how many, if any new ents will get extended . Plus bear in mind that 2nd year re-ents will be 1st in line for extended/permenant contracts . To be honest as a new ent i would be looking at being asked back next year rather than hoping to be extended .. but at the end of the day it will be down to how many permenant crew take unpaid leave before the company know how many crew it will need at each base for the winter
|
Given that the company have offered unpaid leave it will depend on how many permenant crew take this up as to how many, if any new ents will get extended I asked one of the CCDMs about how unpaid leave will affect contracts and apprently it doesn't. The only reason that unpaid leave is on offer is because some crew have written in to request it and there was no policy in place to make sure everyone is treated the same at all bases. This is good news for the temp crew (which includes new entrants!!) Globe |
