question to flight attendants
Hello, and Happy New Year.
In France, flight attendants are required to pass the CSS to work in an airline... it's a national exam and it's compulsory. CSS stands for Certificat Sécurité Sauvetage, which might be translated as Safety and Rescue Certificate. I'm not an air hostess, but I think it's all about first aid, recognition of early symptoms, what to do in case of medical emergency, of landing on a deserted island ( etc... what about your airlines ? Do you have a specific training for your airline ? Do you have a national exam ? etc... I thank you all :-) Cheers |
In the UK we are governed by the CAA and JAR.
All airlines have to follow certain safety standards in order to be able to operate. This includes ensuring all crew have received adequate training to cover all eventualities such as evacuation, ditching (water landing), decompression (loss of cabin air pressure). Crew are also trained in medical emergencies. Each new crew member has to sit an exmination covering all of these subjets as well as practical excercises. Then before they can operate must complete a minimum of 2 take offs and two landings in a crew position seat, whilst not actually officially operating as crew. Prior to each flight, crew have to answer safety and medical questions. If they do not get them correct, subject to the decision of the airline, they do not fly and then re-sit the exams. Once a year, crew then take a refresher course to ensure they are up-to-date. Some airlines adopt their own regulations but these must be based around those set by the UK CAA. Hope that helps! salzkorn,
it` s a little bit more than what you think. If you are interested and can read French, here is a link: http://sites.croix-rouge.fr/13/forma...pages/css.html After the exams, which takes months to be completed both in the written and practical part, you need to fly 60 hours to make validate it. Yhen you have a recurrent training once a year on: 1 each A/C type, Safety(the biggest part!), dangerous goods, CRM, First Aid, Security. Plus the medical (more or less the same as the pilots) every other yar until 40 (once a year after). |
thanks for the link flyblue,
Actually, I asked this question because I flew with a British airline to Great Britain a few weeks ago (easyjet, not to name it ;) ), I discussed it with a friend of mine, who's a pilot in a French airline, and he was wondering what the background of British (or else) flight attendants was, compared to what is required in France. So I chose to ask the question here, and I thank you for the answers ! |
its always been the same and it always will be..From High school to university..for pilots and cabin crew..selection in France is different from all other european countries..harder maybe?
Id fly on Air France eachtime for safety and professionalism of its crews but if only it didnt lose my luggage each time and go on strike just for the holidays... Maybe BA guys wont agree but that s just a french national opinion:= M.85 |
What an unlucky boy you are! I have flown AF at least once a week for years and they have never (until now) lost my luggage (and may I remember you that it's the airport who's responsible for handling luggage?). And also cannot remember an occasion when there's been a strike during a public holiday...
|
M.85, yours is not exactly the kind of answer I was expecting... why always be aggressive ????
|
Dear Flyblue,
I am unfortunate of course..I flew on AF twice...once to go to Dallas in 2001 and once to zurich but it was via Paris..so i bet its the ground handlers over loaded with work..however i had more than 2 hours before my flight, not like a quicky really.. However i just mentionned the fact and did indeed say how I greatly respect the the cabin and flight crews.. The strike coment was about french in general..not AF. For the being agressive part..i dont know where that came from:confused: If I have a quality between all my bad sides.its that i need a lot to be bothered and react..maybe im too much of an introvert..keep it on myself and let things go away into the back of my mind for ever...
