Cabin Crew & Swimming!

Hey,

Probably more of a question for Aussie cabin crew.... but read on if you're interested....

I was a party the other night (strangely being NYE and all) and two guys I know (in passing) are in the same situation as a lot of us... on the QF shortlist.

Anyway, they were arguing about the EP procedures I think - where you have to jump out of the simulator into the pool and swim 50m & tread water for 3mins fully clothed.

One swore black and blue that you have to swim with a buoyancy vest (life jacket or similar) and the other was adamant that you have to do all of swimming without a vest....

Of course at that stage I was far too drunk to care or contribute and wandered off to talk to the very attractive lamp post, however post NYE hangover I am quite curious ...

Which is it? Any info would be appreciated....

Hi Ozskipper,

I think your friends are both right.

Many moons ago when I was a newbie at QF we had to do a swim with clothes on for our initial training then later each year we would swim with life jackets on to reboard the life raft from the water.

Even further back with Ansett they used to throw us in fully clothed with an uninflated lifejacket and then we had to blow it up whilst treading water! :uhoh:

Procedures have probably changed a lot since then but it still brings a smile to my face just thinking about it. Ah the gool old days!:ok:

im hoping you actualy get trained on how to do this not be expected to know how to blow up a life vest before training?

i dont know why ur worried ozskipper you'd be thoroughly trained im sure

Not worried in the slightest - I wasn't involved in the debate (I didn't know, so there was little point in speculating) so I thought I would come to oracle (pprune participants!) and see what it would tell....

Mirror, mirror on the wall, which potential flight attendant is right most of all? :D

Thanks for info Iguanahead & Biscoti Chucker....
