Astraeus

I have an interview for cabin crew at ASTRAEUS on Monday and was just wondering what they are like to work for, if anyone knows? I think it looks like a great little company. Interesting flying, friendly and nice aircraft.

Can anyone fill me in on the subject or give me any tips for the interview?

Regards

Hi there, only my opinion but - If youve not flown before, go for it. If you have steer clear, totally unprofessional.:( I should know!

Trol E Doll 10th December 2003 02:36

Strangely enough, Pinni, from what I know of AEU they are a fairly professional organisation.

Sure they have had their share of teething problems.....but most of the people I've met from there have been very positive in their views, albeit with some grumbles about sorting out some of the summer issues.

:ok: :O

flyblue 10th December 2003 03:15

Before we start a slagging match, may I remind you that we are not discussing other member's professionnality, the topic being Astraeus .
And pinni, you are entitled to your opinion, but if you state

totally unprofessional
please at least explain the reasons.

Trol E Doll 10th December 2003 04:00

Flyblue,

Fair comment , provided someone gets to defend this airline from the gripes of a disgruntled ex-employee, who didn't so much "leave" as being "pushed".

Level playing field...right?

Waggon rut 10th December 2003 04:58

All I can say is a lot of the cabin crew were not happy over the summer. Most put on a brave face.

Alberville 10th December 2003 05:46

Astraeus Cabin Crew work extremley hard and with a very professional attitude.
They have successfully filtered out all the garbage leaving a great team of people.

MEFLYBE 10th December 2003 06:25

Hey folks!

Firstly, thank-you for all the replies, a mixture of opinons obviously!

I had the interview on Monday and was told today that I had the job! So am over the moon!

The impression I got from the interview was that the people behind AEU are great! It was easily the most relaxed and warm interview I have ever been to.

The thing that really attracts me to AEU though is the interesting flying programme! Taba, Malabo, Borlagne and La Gomera, not exactly your 'old favorites' as with bigger companies.

Well, I can say that I can't wait until my initials, I'm sure AEU will be a great experience!

Regards

Mike:D :D :D

Hi Mike!

I was there on Monday and got the job with AEU too!
The selection process was relaxed but at the same time professional.
I think we'll have a good time on our course! You're on the February one, right?

flyblue 10th December 2003 21:23

Trol E Doll,

I agree 100%. That's why pinni won't be allowed labelling an airline as "totally unprofessional" without an explanation. And, if I were pinni, I would avoid "doing my laundry" in public if the circumstances of my departure weren't more than to my advantage.

I joined Astraeus on the first training course during the start up and from the day I attended the interview I found them to be nothing other than proffessional and well organised. The people are great to work with and you get treated well and most importantly fairly. I only left because I was offered a great opportunity I could not turn down, otherwise I would still be there and still enjoying it like some of my friends who started from day one. Good luck to those starting with Astraeus in the new year, the training you will receive will be second to none and I hope you enjoy your time with this company as much as i did. Well done.

irishcc 10th December 2003 22:05

Is Gaynor Yardley and Mark Deakin still at AEU ?

jetstream7 10th December 2003 22:50

Very interested by your comments about AEU to La Gomera - didn't know the 'field there would take a 737.. would save me a journey on the Fred Olsen 'cat from Los Cristianos... anyone able to confirm that and let me know who I'd book through?

Cheers

I've sent you a PM this time. Hope you got it!

Do you know anybody else who got the course?

runway 17th December 2003 03:50

Chaps,

I am just about to go on-line with Astraeus, and have the following to offer if its of any use:

Interview: Very straight forward. starts with a general knowledge exam which you can't really prepare for. The usual distance, speed, time calculations, currency conversions, and geography, etc. This is followed by an interview, which is very relaxed and informal...nothing to get worked up about.

Training: Astraeus training is second to none. My trainers were brilliant in their depth of knowledge, enthusiasm and general know how in the industry, and have now become personal friends, as have everyone on the course with me. They have comitted themselves to completing just about all of their training 'in house', and this adds to the efficiency and fluency of the course. If i enjoy the flying half as much as i have enjoyed the training, then it all seems worth it.

Astraeus is indeed small, but perfectly formed. There is no real feeling of domineering manegerial heirachy, and every member of the team is friendly and approachable.

Hope this is all of some use to you! Happy Landings!

titmitch 25th December 2003 02:06

To all the guys that got jobs with astraeus contragulations!!

I'll have been with Astraeus a year in january so i will no doubt see you all when you come on line.

Like has already been mentioned the company did have teething problems in the begining, but since april of 2002 til present the company has gone from having one aircraft to five and were operating with six over the summer so i think that is pretty good going. Things were stressful over the summer but we had a very hectic flying programme, which was good. The more you fly the more money you earn.
Everyone is good to work with. Our new cabin services manager is good and has ironed out a few problems in the few months that she has been with us. I think the airline can go from strength to strength.
I know some of the routes aren't exactly glamerous but it is what you make it.
It is hard work but pretty good fun

Good luck to all you new chaps see you out on line in the new year :ok:

solution1 25th December 2003 04:59

Hey Titmitch (or anyone else),

Just a quick question....who is the new Cabin Services Manager at Astraeus??

Thanks.

titmitch 30th December 2003 04:17

Hey Solution1,
I don't want to put the persons name on here as I don't think it would be right, but put it this way she has been in the industry a while and knows her stuff. She has a great sense of humour but at the same time doesn't take any crap.

skychick2003 3rd January 2004 23:08

I have an interview with Astraeus and they sound good. Problem is my maths so quite S*** actually!! Are they very strict on this??

runway 7th January 2004 04:26

skychick2003,

the maths is really nothing to get worked up about. you will need to know how to do a few simple distance, speed, time calculations. 'You drive 10 miles to work every day. the speed limit is 60 mph. On one particular day, the speed limit is reduced to 40mph. How long does it take to get there?'

If you can do that sort of thing you are laughing. Also it might be worth practicing a few currency conversions. not rocket science, but certainly designed to separate the wheat from the chaff. there are millions of web sites and books available to give you a bit of practice, so if you are serious, then a little bit of work and you will be fine.

Good luck.

ps. your user name is out of date!

titmitch 8th January 2004 04:33

Hey Skychick
When it comes to currency conversions Astraeus except english pounds, the euro and u.s. dollars so i doubt very much anything else should appear, so long your basic maths is ok then you should be fine;)

timmcat 11th January 2004 05:30

You might just find the owner of this site at the pointy end kids...

Fly_JEMS 12th January 2004 11:18

Well Said Fly Blue..

skychick2003 18th January 2004 19:31

Went to the interview and Astraeus seem like a great bunch of people! Haven't heard anything but fingers crossed if i'm not successful will try again. How long do Astraeus take to let you know if you have the job or not? I would be proud to work for them. Great bunch of people.:ok:
