indian and arab passengers !!

who has any idea or experiences about indian passengers or arab passengers ? please share !! i heard that they are not so good passengers so i wanna have some comfirm of you all !!

Psr777 22nd Apr 2003 01:07

I am sure your post was not intended to offend anyone, but such wide sweeping remarks about individual races should be avoided.

It doesn't matter the colour of the skin or religion, any passenger can be a pain in the a**e, just as any passenger can be the best passenger you have ever had.

I think this post should be deleted. :suspect: :suspect: :suspect:

flyblue 22nd Apr 2003 01:51

Psr777,
I think the enquiry was not offending per se. What might eventually be offending is the answers (evil eye from Mods). I think that we are grown up enough to try and give an explanation to what is a common "radio galley" topic. We have all heard at some stage of our career that "the X people" are bad pax. So let's try and sort out some intelligent answers, that also might explain what alternative question gift might have asked instead...

I'll start with my 2 cents (Euro :p ).
I think that speaking of "X" pas is generalizing too much. Two different cabins of "X"pax might be totally different. But it is true that some nationalities tend to have the same characteristics.
Then it is only a matter of your personal taste which one you like or not. In my company Long Haul is divided in 4 different sectors: Asia, Africa/Middle East, Caribbean/Indian Ocean, Americas. I daily talk to collegues who explain that they chose Asia, or Africa etc because they prefer the kind of pax who fly those routes, and all have different reasons. So there is no unanimity over the issue. The mistake we must avoid is to judge pax of different nationality than ours, and with our measures. My company provides CC information about the different kind of customers. That's really helpful to avoid common mistakes and make them feel not too culturally disoriented. I personally flew lots of Indian routes, and think that once you have understood what those pax appreciate, they are very easy to "handle".
BTW, some time ago Flapsforty gave a very intelligent answer when the issue of Israeli pax was raised here . I find her answer exemplary of the right attitude towards dealing with different cultures.

indian and arab passengers

Really not a problem - one person tried to accuse you of being racist and the other went into a wierd planet of X equals Y??

End of the day - there is no Arab or Indian passenger - lots of varieties in both those categories. As long as you have the ability to realise they are all human beings with maybe diverse needs and the ability to pick up on what these are not a problem!

Just get on in life and show a bit of interest and you are 50% there for any job. Words of wisdom from person who has been there and done it!!

C.C. will resist the strong urge to comment on subject re; Pax from the Sub Continent.
knowing the "Thought Police" are onto him.

WANT-ING...

"Iyam wan-ting wan-ting chick-en chick-en"

"Walking Johnny on the rocks, no ice"

"wan-ting wan-ting..."

Maybe it's years of colonial subversion, being returned in buckets? Naw......

Hong Kong Layover 25th Apr 2003 22:01

Blat,

It is not "wan","tin" "chickek-en"...so an and so forth!

Stop insulting people and pull your socks up!

There are the most easy to handle people if you have the skills as a flight attendant!

If you are working for a mid east carrier, you should know that they pay full fare and fly giving the airlines full revenue, where as so called knowledgeble/well behaved "US"-the europeans, fly on the most possible cut rate/cheapest/discounted ticket and still complain!

Look at a flight to London/manchester! do the majority of crew enjoy pax? - "NO"

Look at air rage - who is mostly involved?

Look at pax complaints-who does it most?

So,why we complain about those innocent people?

At the end of the day,we have wanted this job,and we are there to look after them.no matter what the race/country/colour may be.

HONG KONG LAYOVER
Very well said, partner. I'm sure there are others who would agree with you in this. And I dont want to offer some cheap amusement by mocking at Blat. all I can say is such flight attendants tend to generalize the Indian and Middle eastern passengers and this inturn crowns them as fools. What were u trynna do, Blat? Immitate Jim Carrey?

I think there should be a new topic that goes like, "the worlds worst f/a." and Gift, trust me, dealing with Thai f/a would be broadly discussed. :p (just dont get it. I said COKE , trying to get the best pronounciation out of my mouth, only to get a cup of black coffee in Bangkok-... flight )

Take care all
Richie

Becoming culturally aware is essential before rational judgements can be made on this.Hell I have even been able to get on with the French (when in France) since I discovered you need to shake their hand as you meet, make an attempt to speak their language and realise that this Latin temperament is just the way they are and does not carry the same significance as it would if a Brit "went on one".

When they are in the UK it is not unreasonable to expect them to conform to our culture (but the above still helps).

digna 26th Apr 2003 06:37

well I can see that every body is trying to brush off the racism fact which is there any way in the medeast, but I can assure you one thing , as\a cabin crew once you but that smile on and truly show your pax that you care and willing v.much to help them then they will appriciate that no matter what the sound of their speach is.

Hong Kong Layover 26th Apr 2003 18:32

Racism is at a very low scale in the middle east! anywhere else you find it big time.(atleast in certain other parts of the world)

Middleeast is very cosmopolitan, and most people here are expats and generaly get on well.however there obviously is racism to a certain extent, due to the stupid back grounds and upbringings of their homes!! -sad!!

air-hag 29th Apr 2003 05:21

ignorance

hong kong layover....thats nice... you obviusly dont have to work with thes people or youd know better

no racism in midle east? you dont know what youre talking about

tiba 29th Apr 2003 09:04

Good lord!!!!!!! This has turn into a full blown are we racist or lets not be racist issue here................!!!!!!! Surely all of us in this industry understand that the reason why we are in this job or stay on in this field is primarily because exposure to all kinds of culture or passengers from different cultural background can only enrich us????

Gift

Since you started this thread why havent you come back and clarified what is it that you really want to know here? Are you looking for specific tips in handling passengers from the indian or the middle eastern subcontinent that would help to make you perform in your job better?

Perhaps tips like yes indian subcontinent passengers do prefer their teas and coffees quite strong with a lot of milk whereas middle eastern pax prefer theirs quite light with a lot of sugar. The majority meal choice of north indian pax is usually chicken whereas the south indians would prefer fish or vegetarian.

Am sure everyone here would have some insights here that can only help all of us. Yes all pax should be treated equally but understanding the different cultural backgrounds of the pax of the different routes we all fly will only help all of us to serve the needs of our pax directly without giving any rise to misunderstandings. Am i being too naive here?

COKE
1. I have found that shouting does not help comprehension when dealing with people whose first language is not English

2. You could easily have ended up with a white powder, or a sack of solid fuel

3. Try asking for a "Coca-Cola" next time

4. Overt displays of emotion are not well regarded in Thailand, or many other SE Asian countries - and those girls sure can blank you

... and in case you wonder, yes, I have been married to a Thai lady for many years...

flyblue 29th Apr 2003 14:37

Wonderfully explained what it sums up in the end, tiba :)

Hong Kong Layover 30th Apr 2003 05:20

Air hag,

Racism may be there, but to a very low extent.it also depends on how individuals look at it and deal with it.

If you are racist, you obviously look at everything in that manner. and if you are not,no problems.

Baglama 2nd May 2003 05:35

Rude passengers?

I fail to understand why particularly arab or Indian pax, and it is not as flyblue says about thought police being behind you when you mention it, but more of what we are not used to.

IMHO difficult pax exist everywhere and it is not limited by geography, race, creed or religion, trust me.

These days must really worry about the unruly ones who seem to believe they are a law onto themselves, and their numbers from information gathered from colleagues on other airlines seem to be on the increase.

Leave all this guys.................

I mean both Male and female............no offence PLZ

gtadxb 7th May 2003 17:44

Well well well, what do we have here ? Those who have flown on 777s and 330s full of indians and who won't admit that they can't stand them and those who have never experienced indian pax and who judge those who have something to say about them... let's forget the racist talk here ! I have experienceD both indian and arab pax and am not afraid to say that the arab pax are very particular but they are never rude, disrespectful, racist and downright nasty... need I say any more ? I love my job as a f/a but I have never been spoken to or been treated as badly as a human being by educated indian pax and now I'm glad I don't have to deal with them anymore as I have left that part of the world... so there !
