Interviews - joke

I am an experienced crewmember who has been flying for years and quite like the idea of flying to the places that BMed go to. However I have sent my cv to Bmed 3 times in 18 months and they have not even had the decency to write back and acknowledge any of them. I have been a Cabin Crew Trainer with a BA franchise and also flown for BA long haul so I know quite a bit about flying.

What is this Company looking for? They give no details on upper age limits when they advertise. I guess they dont seem too bothered about recruiting decent people anymore. Perhaps they should take a leaf out airlines that flew to the Middle East in 1990, where Crews were leaving in droves because of all the unrest.

crewmeal 7th Feb 2003 08:52

ok Frequent flyer - point taken, but when you get comments like this from the 'horses mouth' and you find that they themselves are unhappy because of whats going on don't you think that there might be an element of truth in this.

I personally had a high regard for BMed who struggled to obtained the BA franchise back in the 90's after being originally rejected due to a bad audit. I have even worked with some of the original Managers who were brilliant people and turned the Company round. However all that hard work is gradually been eroded to the point you have an issue with moral which as we all know reflects on the poor passengers.

It is sad to find that all some managers can be bothered with is an issue with crew meals (no pun intended) and personality clashes which in one case has even gone legal!!

I thought I was the only one

BMED:yuk:

I did not realise that there were other people who thought the same as I do.

My British Mediterranean Experience
A short one

I started a training course on the 10th september 2001 the next day we all know what happend.

Over the 4 week course we were all told by the Cabin Service Manager the Chief Executive and by our trainers that there was nothing to worry about and that they needed us all and that there would be no job losses.

After completing possibly the worst training course for Cabin Crew that I have yet undertaken (I have done eight) I was made redundant on my wings day. The then Cabin Service Manager came into the room where we were all meant to receive our wings and read out a list of half the class who could not be kept on.

Of the people I know who are still there many of them ex AML most of them hate it and want to leave and some already have.

What happend to me is an extreme example of the sleekit way that all of BMED Cabin Services Management operate.

I am not bitter any more but as I am sure you can imagine I was for some time after the incident. I know why they had to get rid of some of us but the way it was handled was pathetic, unprofessional, childish and deceitful.

BMED does offer a good long-haul style lifestyle (miserable destinations though!) where commuting from Europe or elsewhere in the UK is not a problem but there are a lot of stand/by duties. The take home pay of a Junior is around £1250 per month sometimes more if you do a busy month.

But with the onset of an unperdictable war in an unpredictable region things may once again change at BMED.

I now thank BMED for giving me the chance to move to a great little Airline where I now have a new career and better money.

Cheers! Sandra, Ian, Mary and of course Sue:D

bmed

came on here to look at all the gossip about bmed but alas it has gone! heard someone was thinking about joining our happy camp!!!
firstly you only have to look at all the other gripes on here to see that we are not the only unhappy company!
I have been with bmed for a number of years. it was a great little company but sadly the management level has not progressed along with the growth of the company. to those employed by bmed it's obvios that there are "no" personnel / human resources skills! recent events yet again have shown us all that!
yes it's true that the destinations stink and the pay is not too bad, however yes BA were paid danger money for same destinations. however to anyone who joins I would say we are a great bunch of crew and even the flight deck are not bad. we really are a friendly bunch. just do not expect much from the management level!

BMed mk2

ButchFaggot......Having operated the BAK & ALA routes on 767s & DC10s for all the time they were Mainline BA routes at LGW I can assure you that BA cabin crew NEVER received any kind of "danger" money that you describe. On the Mainline Worldwide Fleet at LGW we have had our fairshare of "danger" routes eg Yemen trips in the early 90s during civil war, recent national strikes/major civil unrest in Venezuela, hurricanes in the caribbean every few years, civil unrest in Cote d'Ivoire......the list goes on, but have never received any kind of "danger" pay & the same goes for our colleagues on LHR Mainline fleets.
Granted, we are on a different pay regime to colleagues with regional/franchise operators (it's the same with franchises/regionals everywhere....not just BA), but we are definitely not a bunch of flying mercenaries with armour plated bar carts as you make out.

Dangerous_Dave 11th Feb 2003 19:07

While working for AML, we didn't get any danger money for flying into the teeth of hurricanes during the summer every year we were operating, or into civil unrest and rioting in Jamacia. Even the foriegn office said that people shouldn't go, and flights were cancelled, but the crew was still left in there hotel.

Butch, you are not the only on who BA has shafted from a great height. Although, I am sure that you've met a couple of crew who used to fly with me. Does Justin ****, or Mark ***** names ring a bell???

Dave, you are not allowed to post people's name here. If you have to, please use a PM.

I was in the back of the bus AMM-LHR a little while back, crew were not interested in the least, only a few pax and the service was awful, really surprised, but maybe their motivation can be explained by some of the above.

hardship allowance

Look pal, what part of "don't spam the site with multiple identities" do you have trouble understanding? You have lost all privileges to argue your point in here... freespeech in here is at the behest of the site owners, and you are abusing their facility.

Go take your opinions and "business" elsewhere.

BMED

I had the pleasure of working for this outfit as well, didn't last long as it wasn't the company for me. But did have a great time down route with some of the cabin/flight crews esp in BEY and Tiblisi. God those room parties were great fun and got the photo's to laugh at now. Yes there were a few people in the company who were horrid to say the least, one of the reasons I left was because of them.

However, I must admit it was good money for basically flying about 3 sectors per week you were away a lot but you had fun. Some of us were worries about the destinations but in the end we ended up having a good time.

If any of you BMED guys were around in 97 remember the room parties in Tiblisi, BEY, AMM and DAM we had were they not simply the best  and of cousre the LIFT incident in Tiblisi :O :O

CandyBender 13th Feb 2003 08:11

freespeachplease!..........there's no such thing as a hardship allowance within BA mainline either.....I should know I've been on long haul with BA for 9 years..
We aren't paid hourly when downroute, but are paid meal allowances according to cost of food in hotels/cost of living & these varied according to country visited. Yes, ALA & BAK were good payers, but take into account that a cup of coffee in the ALA Hyatt cost US$6.50 at the time & that the food outside the hotel was pretty dire & just as expensive. On the opposite end of the scale.....when Harare was at LGW we just about scraped £7 a day!! Roll on 24 hour flight pay!!

ButchFaggot 13th Feb 2003 11:04

THOUGHT MY COMMENTS REGARDNG BMED FOR RATHER POSITIVE! EVERYONE SEEMS TO HAVE PICKED UP ON THE "DANGER MONEY". OK I STAND CORRECTED.
BMED ARE RECRUITING AGAIN...........COME ALONG!

Oh gulf-crew! yes I remember those days! unfortunatly they are well over. no time for room parties......too many shuttles! I remember the lift inccident too! look how it was handled!!!!! now that is an issue!

Dangerous_Dave 13th Feb 2003 11:16

Freespeachplease, I know what you are talking about. The extra payments the BA crews get to operate the aircraft and routes that we happily did.

Just to clarify, I wasn't in the riots either. Yes I did stay in MoBay, as I was crew. Stayed to the end because it was such a fun time, and could not think of flying with any other outfit.

How is life in Orange?

CandyBender 13th Feb 2003 15:56

Dangerous Dave

I know what you are talking about. The extra payments the BA crews get to operate the aircraft and routes that we happily did.
As I posted earlier BA mainline crew don't get any extra (in addition to their normal pay/allowances) for exAML or what are now BMed routes (or any route in fact.....)

Northern Star 14th Feb 2003 17:57

Surprised

Well I have read this thread with real surprise. I worked for BMed five years ago and things have obviously changed. Yes, the routes were different and like any place there were peple to avoid but on the whole it was a happy little ship. The fun we used to have in the Tbilisi and Asghabat crew rooms!!!! In fact i missed it so much at first I considered returning. Such a shame that things are no longer the same.

To anyone thinking of applying to them I would advise you to have an open mind and make your own opinions of any company. Whilst I don't want to rubbish anything anyone has said-after all if they work there they know, it is important to form your own impressions.
