Crutches On Board

Hi there:)

I will be travelling Aer Lingus shortly, probably on an A320 but possibly on the smaller ATR72 aircraft.

I have a foot injury which means that I use one crutch when walking any distance and I was wondering what the criteria is for bringing one into the cabin ( I havent booked anything into the hold due to cost).

It is an elbow crutch and I am 5'5 ish.

Will it fit in the overhead locker or is it ok under my seat?

I'll pin it down if need be lol::)

Any advice would be welcome.

Many thanks:ok:

We carry them on the airbus all the time, (big national carrier) if they won't fit in the overheads then they can go in a wardrobe, failing that we've had them on the flight deck.
Not all airlines are as flexible though with odd size stuff, give them a ring and see what they say. I suspect they will do everything possible to get them onboard with today's disability legislation, if they don't they have the added complication of ordering you a wheelchair.

The ATR-72 has the hold in the forward section of the cabin, just behind the flight deck so they would fit in there no problem.

Dont Forget

Also mention this to the airline when you book your ticket as it may be some assistance to be seated near the toilet.

Consider also climbing stairs.. are you okay with that or do you need time?? You might need to pre-board as the ATR has a stair door.

If the A320 is on a remote stand e.g. one without an aerobridge you may need to seek assistance with a passenger lift or 'DPL' this is a movable platform that is put up against the stairs and lifts you up as there is a few stairs to climb on the A3-- aircraft.
