Especially since the aircraft in the bckground is one of the early prototype or preprod aircraft, or even one of the mock-ups.........

I remember that. It was the 5th Silly Hat convention. It was in all the papers at the time.

What a fascinating variation of sleeve lengths.

#4 looks French and #5 could be German.

Just about everybody 'ordered' Concorde at the time. There should be Iran Air in there somewhere - fourth from the end maybe.

My mate and I invited ourselves up the steps and onto the flightdeck of an empty Concorde once, I've sat in the LHS and gone 'brm, brm'.

The legend (filename) of the photo says 1960....
Unlikely... I suppose 'sixties' is meant (first flight wasn't until 1969).

I've seen that photo before, and as far as I remember, it was taken at one of the Le Bourget airshows in the mid-sixties, in front of the wooden full-scale mockup (you will note there are no pitots, AoA vanes or static port hexagons, and the visor is already the fully transparent one).

That mock-up has a slightly sad story.... after the airshow it was moved to Orly, on the side of one of the car parks, and opened to the public. It was quite an attraction for years, until one night it was set alight by vandals......

I realise it would be part of the entire Concorde design and build process, but I dread to think how much a full scale wooden mock up such as that would cost to build nowadays. Around the equivalent of a couple of top UK banking executive's annual salary and bonuses in 2012 maybe! :E

Looks like there are passenger steps on the port side... would there have been an inside sample layout as well? And I'd love to see a colour pic of all those different uniforms.

As to the cost... I have no idea either.
But that mock-up is not unique....
There are still two mock-ups like it surviving in the UK....
One is a full-scale cabin arrangement mock-up, and as far as I know it's still for sale.
The other is a cockpit mock-up, and on display in a Bristol museum.

1) It seems the mock-up in question was first displayed at the 1967 Le Bourget airshow.

2) Re the cost..... somebody in Germany actually went and built a full-scale Concorde model.....

In a way... that was the airlines dream... 150 seats.

I have some of the cabin mock-up props - wooden torches, medical boxes etc. Hard to believe the beautifully crafted models were cheaper than putting in the real thing!
