Recipes/Ideas for cooking onboard
 

Hi All,

So, its late at night, all the passengers are asleep, and you've still got hours and hours to go until you land. Why not cook something?! Just wondering if any of you have any ideas for things you might be able to cook onboard, given the very special requirements of our ovens/safety/LAGs requirements etc?!

We used to bake cake's from scratch for our F and J class pax back in the day, but through the smokey haze of my memory, I don't seem to recall the cake's ever turning out amazingly moist, delicious or unburnt...

Many years ago,when sick bags were called cuspidals and the seven-oh was king,I flew in Africa with an all Filipina cabin crew. They would spend their spare time tearing up bread rolls,adding sugar from those little paper bags,butter from tiny individual packs,egg powder(?)..milk and so on.They had their own raisins.The mix went into a two inch deep tray and was baked. The smell of the cooking was wonderful, even overcoming the stench of poorly serviced loos. A two inch cube of the resulting bread and butter pudding on landing was guaranteed to absorb most of that evening's drink! The CC were a lovely lot.We would give all the standard cabin calls in rude Filipino. I can't remember it all now,but they were called 'pwits', which I think means witches.

I love making a hot fudge sunday. And before you all get the wrong idea, put a banana, sprinkled with lots of sugar in the oven (in a foil of course) until it gets all hot and mushy. While thats cooking, crunch some nuts, whip some cream (you have to do it by hand - kills 15 minutes) and melt a chocie bar in some kind of double boiler contraption. If you want to make it fancy, mash some strawberries for a coolie. Yum

OOHHH..we love to bake fresh bread, buns, tarts & pastries....the smell is amazing, and of course our pax are always amazed.
You are only limited by your imagination and whatever supplies are available!..and flight time of course.:D

use the remaining bread rolls and cheese - don't forget the Worchester sauce/ketchup !! - They go down a treat in the early hours!!

If you're really savvy - you'll set these aside during boarding but hey, that never came from me!! :=

I made some a few times- but you have to come prepared...

I just prepared everything at home - 3 tupper ware boxes full:
1: dough (homemade - but you can buy one as well),
2: apples (skinned and cut - add lemon juice so they don't turn brown that quickly)
3: crumble.

Rolled and stretched out the dough on a table in the galley (desinfekted with Vodka ;) ), fill it, roll it up and bakes perfektly in the oven.

On one flight we had it with vanilla-sauce, another with icecream - whatever was served on the flight.

Shame, those H&S gurus are around.

A BBQ would be quite the sellar on board.

we have well done crispy bacon sandwiches, created by our fantastic beauty queen, (she told me to refer to her exactly as I did). With Daddies brown sauce.

She also fries eggs, for a special treat.


She has a small !!!! electric griddle, and the bacon smell is so distracting, we are only permitted to partake on empty legs.

Followed by home made milk shakes, from the ice cream that our pax insist on having available.

Get those pre-packaged seasoned roast vegies (potatoes, pumpkin etc) and some roast along with garlic bread and cook it all up.... only problem is it smells better than the airline food and then all the pax want it too!

Hot dogs in the brewer pot works well, a nice snack in the middle of the night :)

Did you hear about the hosties who roast a whole chicken on a Sunday flight and nearly got sacked because they left the carcass in the oven for the next crew...............who reported them (:mad:)
