How on earth would the US know whether they are HIV positive or not?????? Anyway the rules where recently changed for all foreign visitors and there are no restrictions in place as I understand it.

Ruland, a psychiatric nurse and AIDS activist who works with criminal and troubled youth, told reporters he was thrilled that HIV-positive travelers to the U.S. were being treated equally. "For the first time, in a legal way, without lying about my HIV status, I'm very proud to be here as myself," Ruland said. "People with HIV are not a threat to anybody, so there is no reason to exclude them," he added. my understanding is that On October 30, 2009 President Barack Obama reauthorized the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Bill which expanded care and treatment through federal funding to nearly half a million. He also announced that the Department of Health and Human Services crafted regulation that would end the HIV Travel and Immigration Ban effective in January 2010; on January 4th, 2010, the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention removed HIV status as a factor to be considered in the granting of travel visas

This is absolutely correct. HIV was taken off the list of "banned" communical diseases as of January this year. Most information I have read about this suggests the US had to get in line with most other countries if they wish to remain a humanitarian leader in this world, and thankfully for many this has been achieved and very long overdue. One thing I must point out is it was not an Obama initiative. Suprisingly it was George W. Bush who pushed for the lifting, initially allowing HIV positive people to enter the USA on the proviso they declare it and have an "invisible" remark on their passport but not denying them entry, however maximum time allowed in the US was 4 weeks. It has taken this long for the full ban to be lifted. There are however conditions attached to this new agreement, that being you are not coming to the US for treatment, have enough medication to support your trip, do not appear "unwell", and will not rely on the US health department if you become ill, nothing more than any other country. For those scared of carrying meds you will no longer have to hide them. This agreement is so long over due and I congratulate the US for finally joining most of the civilised world. It was eventually determined that HIV people pose no risk to the community and this has been the biggest hurdle for people wanting to visit the US with this condition. Great outcome.
