QCCA Pay and Conditions - A380

I am a full time permanent Qantas F/A and am very keen to take up a position on the A380. I have been informed by management at both QAL and QCCA that I would have to resign from QAL in order to do so, as there are no provisions for transfers or secondments. I am currently weighing up my options as I am also on the divisional transfer list (rank no. under 100 for SYD LH)

Question 1: Could someone from QCCA please tell me in all honesty, with no B.S. and hype, how much base salary is BANKED per fortnight and how much AUD is in the hand per fortnight? (I know that trips on the A380 will be different from the mainline fleet, and hence allowances could vary...but I'm just using B747 flying as rough guide to reference to A380)

Question 2: Could someone also from QCCA tell me how many hours credit you have to do for the 2 month period (again without hype and B.S.). Currently at SH we have to do 123hrs (1 month), but I have heard that QCCA can do 240hrs (2 months = 120/month)

Thank you all for your replies and thank you for your honesty. I'm just sick of the hearsay about QCCA pay and conditions currently floating around the beehive galleys at domestos. I also hope you all respond with facts and not opinions/gossip cos I would like to make an informed decision.

Just some info to get your started......I don't know about income levels for QCCA but the 240 hours max in 56 days is correct. I am currently in LHR base and our max is also 240 hours. To be honest it's pretty hard work flying that many hours when you are doing the long range stuff, especially working over night sectors and dealing with the time zone changes. My rosters are consistently around 220 and then with delays etc that gets pretty close to my max each RP.

cokecropduster 27th Sep 2008 22:57

The pay after tax per fortnight is around $1000 - $1100 after tax. The allowances will be quite good at the start because LAX layovers are going to be 100 something OR 80 something due to not having enough planes.

The hours will not be the max at the start due to the lack of aircraft.

You may have a good chance of being a CSS or CSM soon at QCCA, though.

The next destination will be HKG - LHR.

FA = $33500
CSS = $55000
CSM = $70000

If you are a SH FA you should stay where you are in my opinion.

10th Year FA SH = $865 per week.

A380 Downside

1.No Roster control
2.Limited Destinations
3.Less Pay
4.Higher Hours.
5.Employed by QCCA not Qantas
6.No transport for long sectors.
As with anything Qantas does there will be major problems onboard for at least the first twelve months.
Inadequate training and information are the usual causes.
Two OBMs for 22 crew is also inadequate.
2 CSSs not one will be required.
To save face a "team Leader" category may be introduced.
Grant and Webster(AKA Cheech and Chong)couldnt organize a water fight at a billabong

SH to LH Transfers

Domestos... You may get your transfer to LH within the next 12 months or so. Transfers are done on a 'one for one swap'. There are currently more than 200 LH FA's on the transfer list to Syd SH, a lot more to other SH bases too. You can view the transfers lists on the Cabin Crew website.

I think once the SH EBA has been sorted out, the company will begin actioning transfers. There is no reason why they wouldn't as there are people on both sides wishing to swap. I know the SH FAAA have been campaigning the company to put through transfer courses, so if you are an FAAA member, consult with the union as to when they expect transfers to take place.

I think you would be crazy to give up your position with QF to go to QCCA. Hang in there - I'm sure you'll get your LH transfer!

packrat re:6 - transport
QCCA have the same transport entitlements as QF so direct LAX there is transport available both ways.
Take home pay has not been less than $1200 after tax per fortnight except in ground school. This does not include hotel allowances.
For me I haven't been over 220 hours for the roster and with startup A380 it is going to be a lot less for now.
I think you need to speak to some MAM's to QCCA transfers as they are able to judge the domestic to long haul QCCA best. Current QF short haul to QCCA is a big jump, depends what you're looking for as to whether it is a jump up or in the deep end.

Pegasus747 28th Sep 2008 05:47

i certainly wouldnt be trading a position in SH for a position with QCCA as long as the transfer process is in place.

If you transfer from SH to LH under the terms of the current EBA you will get the pre existing LH conditions. There is also no guarantee that you will be deployed to the A380 either so be very careful.

I can understand why you would want to come to LOng Haul but for existing employees resignation is not a sensible option as you would lose the recongnition of all previous service for redundancy and staff travel among other important things.

Please make sure that you get everything in writing in relation to these matters and dont take anything verbally

Transport

My understanding of transport for Long Range was that it is available only for 744s (for QCCA)not the Dugong.
Of Course I stand to be corrected

A_B_P 28th Sep 2008 07:53

The transport arrangements are the same for QCCA regardless of what aircraft we fly on. The QCCA EBA covers both a/c type. QF still has a duty of care to provide crew transport especially when working 16 hour duties. It's not safe to jump in a car and drive after that kind of flying. We get transport whether it's JNB or LAX.

argusmoon 28th Sep 2008 08:57

Other Allowances

Do QCCA receive longrange payments for LAX and JNB?

QFKFY 28th Sep 2008 09:07

Domestos,

I'm just as desperate to go to LH as you are, but being ex-cns crew, we can't even put our name on the transfer list until sep 2009. I have contemplated to go to QCCA in March, but decided not to go ahead with the interview, as it's won't be worth it to lose all your seniority/staff travel etc. Most importantly, QCCA is not recruiting at the moment, whoever told you to resign then you can take up a A380 position is absolutely misleading, did they give you any guarantee in writing? Be really cautious about false promises.

For EBA7 negotiation purpose, I personally think we should really push for SH to A380 secondment, they told us there is no provision, but I'm sure a lot of people would go for it, as long as there is salary top-up; for company's sake, it would also clear up the loooong transfer list much faster. One point worth fighting for, I reckon.

QCCA..Cheap

The A380 will be manned by less expensive crew.
Those LH QAL CC that fly the beast are there for two years.
After that they are there for life.
Why would management offer places to SH with top up wages?

PattyStacker 28th Sep 2008 10:39

QCCA don't get long range pay but get overtime after working 12 hours.
We also get home transport same as current QAL crew. Its based on the flight time or sign on/sign off time so everyflight the A380 takes to LAX we are entitled to home transport

a380boi 28th Sep 2008 10:57

Sources have it that A380 secondment for current QAL shorthaul crew will be offered tomorrow.

QF skywalker 28th Sep 2008 11:22

A380boi please reveal your source IMMEDIATELY. ( This is your first post to pprune to i hope you are not stirring us )

If it's true, I will run 4 laps of the QCC building naked and my faith in Qantas' employee relations will be restored.

a380boi 28th Sep 2008 11:30

Definitely not stirring, all to be revealed tomorrow. Check out the cabin crew websites in the morning.

Very reliable source. If i'm wrong I promise to never post on here again.:ok:

QF skywalker 28th Sep 2008 11:34

Well thanks for the info. I am VERY VERY EXCITED.

argusmoon 28th Sep 2008 11:44

Qf Domestic Secondment

If that is true it means that management dont have establishment numbers from QCCA and QAL LH.
It also means that the A380 will have three distinct existing culures all on different pay scales and awards.
It also means that there will be no more QCCA recruitment for some time.
It also means that domestic is overstaffed with crew
BUT
Management is still calling for applications from existing QAL CC for OBMs and B first.
So ......what is going on?

QFKFY 28th Sep 2008 12:25

A380 for SH FAs?

a380boi,

Just checked cabin crew website, you are right about the info, already some there. Although, it didn't specify it's for SH FAs, only says:
Applications open for First and Business and Flight Attendant positions on the A380 in Melbourne and Sydney for Qantas Airlines employees

However, it is under short haul link, I wish they'd make it nice and clear. And it looks like there is no salary top-up as the application form states that applicants :
will work under the work rules that apply to employees of QCCA
in accordance with Part 2 of EBA8 in lieu of all of the provisions of Part 1 of EBA8.

Can anyone confirm it's for SH FAs too? What about the salary top-up? Thanks heaps.
