Smoking makes a comeback!

I heard from a usually reliable source that the A380 has ashtrays installed in the seat armrests. Can anyone advise whether this is true? I haven't had the pleasure of travelling on the Whale myself. I do hope it's true - so that Air France can raise two fingers to the health freaks when they bring their 380s into service.

Do AF still permit smoking onboard their flights?

I'm sure that aircraft must be fitted with ashtrays, for those passengers who break the rules and smoke onboard. Something to do with having somewhere safe the put the cigarette butt or is that totally worng?

You'd be surprised how many airlines still permit smoking. I don't believe AF is one of them, however. I smoke, but non-smoking flights don't bother me, never have, even on long-haul.

I got an AF codeshare a couple of years ago and that WAS smoking. I had one, just for the novelty value.

I think it has something to do with a FAA ( USA ) requirement that the aircraft is fitted with ashtrays, they talked about this weird equipment a couple weeks ago and they gave this reason...

As for AF all fights are non smoking.

Ash Trays on board ? It might be the Customers first time on a Plane ..

also if Ash Trays missing from a Toilet under CAA regulations the Aircraft,
should not leave base " No go item " ..

Same as why we have to show passengers how to open and close there seat belt,
it might be there first time on a Aircraft..

Hope this helps :ok:

Smoking will never come back ... I hope !!!!!

I am not a smker but I find ashtrays useful for a simple reason. Some small rubbish like the wrap of chewing gum in a cabin with no ashtrays have practically no-where to go. I could wait for the cabin service to collect the empty caps but still having the ashtrays it is much more usefull.

I don't think the cleaner's ever clean the Ash trays.

Use your Sick Bag for waste ;)

Avitor 7th Sep 2008 18:59

Such receptacles on a non smoking a/c are not ash trays, they are a p1ss take.

Rwy in Sight 7th Sep 2008 19:18

Flower Duet,

The volume is so small of a wrap that I think it is a waste to use a sickness bag. But I come to think cleaning the ashtrays would seriously slow down a turn around.

that the A380 has ashtrays installed in the seat armrests.
Excuse my ignorance but surely a specific airline would put in ashtrays, rather that "the A380" comes with them... because after all "THE A380" doesn't come with seats, the airlines order a certain set and have them fitted on the aircraft before delivery.

:oh:

All AF flights are non smoking

flyblue 8th Sep 2008 17:43

All AF flights are non smoking, and all AF aircraft have ashtrays to dispose of small items like candy wraps etc. And they are cleaned during turnaround.
