F/A in U.S.A vs. F/A in rest of world

How much do the FAs get paid in Europe in comparison to the U.S?

I am just curious as to why there is such a big difference with FAs in the U.S and in Europe, or anywhere else in the world.

Everytime you get on a plane with a foreign airline, you are usually greeted by a nice and usually attractive FA at the door in a nice uniform. Getting on an airplane in the U.S it is usually either a 80 year old grandma, a gay guy, or an overweight younger lady with an attitude problem, in an ugly, beat-up uniform, that looks like they just jacked it from a TSA officer.

I am just curious why the difference? Inflight service all over the world is way ahead of the U.S when it comes to the treatment of the passenger, as well as the general looks of the crew.

May be a little bit of a rant.. but this is what passengers see, and they draw their opinions on what they see, this ultimatly effects their flying experience whether they notice it or not, this might be at a sub-concious level. I think it just gives U.S airlines a bad image, along with flying in general.

There are obviously exceptions.. but for the most part.. :E

That is the price you pay for a free market society. The airlines in the US are engaged in a race to the bottom of the service barrel. In fact US Airways just announced that they will be doing away with pretzels and peanuts now on their flights.:{
Minimum cost with minimum service at maximum profit. And the cattle that is the travelling US public does'nt care. For now, the airlines are still keeping the seats intact. Look out for the good old bench seats in the future. Not far away. :ugh:
Bit of a rant too, but, I have to agree , the US has finally won the "worst airlines in the world " award. :ok:
Standby for someone here to balme it on the Unions---------.:yuk:

wow that's great how you compare gay men with an 80 year old grandma or an overweight younger lady with an attitude problem, in an ugly, beat-up uniform...in europe there are plently of gay men working as cabin crew that do an absolutely amazing job, likewise in the US.

Transport vs Service

The USA the land where ageist, homophobic, weight related prejudice is alive and kicking.

Maybe inflight service in the US is so bad because Americans regard getting on a plane transportation vs service. Not to mention how annoyed US flight attendants must get trying to deal with all those oversized bags every day as Americans don't seems to pack light or check bags. US Airlines are also always crying poverty; stripping away benefits and pay from front line employees while management reward themselves with huge bonuses...Look at UAL for example.

p.s. Hooters air tried the inflight service via the Bimbo Brigade...where are they now???
