How do you get to work?
Those of you who start work before public transport starts running and you don't have your own transport, how do you get to work? Does your airline put on transport for you?
Just a newbie here about to apply for my first ever cc job so please bear with my boring questions! |
depends on where you are thinking of working
In Delhi, they send an Ambassador for the CC, and a Rolls Royce for the Captain.
This will change soon, to a fleet of the new TATA's. Or in UAE, you are expected to thumb a lift from a passing building contractors crew bus. windy |
In the UK, it is your responsibility to get yourself to work, just like in any other job. Why would the company lay on transport?
You can drive in, get the bus, coach or train. If you fly for an airline that only requires you to go in once or twice a week (eg: long haul) then you can fly in from another city. Around a third of BA crew commute like this. |
Central London to LHR T1/2 transport.
Hi. I am moving to London and will be working short haul from LHR. How are other people living in the central area getting to Heathrow if there is a reporting time of say 0500?
Does anyone have a "tame" central hotel transfer service (shuttle bus maybe) that will negotiate a rate for frequent use by airline crew? Many thanks for all tips. Maud Bikart. |
transport
did you get an answer from any other source?
i am living in central london and will be starting short haul from LHR so wondering about best things to do for 0500 reports. will let you know if i find something useful though. |
You can tube to all the terminals
HTH |
yes... but not if you have to register for duty by 0500.......
first tube from my station 0517... getting to LHR via Hammersmith about 0600 |
Well it is your responsibility to be on time for report, so you have to make what ever arrangements for transport thats going to get you there . Or if your BACityflyer crew at LCY you just blame public transport for being late!!! Then you try and get all late shifts!!
|
earliest report is 05.05 for a CDG......when you get online just bid to start later so you wont have to worry about early starts, enjoy!
|
forgot to add that is if you are starting with BA!
|
Tube travel to LHR
How long does it take from Terminal 123 to Ba Report Centre (compass Centre)?
Even if you bid for lates could you still get 5.05 reports? |
I am aware of my responsibilities. I am trying to hear from people who have LIVED the experience and what options a NEW COMER to London may not know about. Like so many things here it seems to be trial and error.

Oh Thank You that is very helpful. I have emailed and will call someone called dot2dot tomorrow, they run a shared shuttle van from various hotel points in central London for £17. (have a big one a minute from the apartment.)
I will find out about how time reliable it is, maybe they will offer a discount for frequent use and I will post their response. Thank you for the train information. I am going to BMI. |
Aer Lingus provide transport for its crew and ground staff if you live within a certain catchment of Dublin Airport. It is usually in the form of either a taxi or Aer Lingus transportation.

It depends what part of London you`re living in, but certain bus routes to LHR run very early end late or run 24 hours a day. eg 140, 111, 285, U3
See London Transport website Living further out tends to be easiler to commute to LHR eg Herts, Beds, Bucks. National Express coaches run through out the day and night and the BAA offer airport staff a discounted season ticket. Think there site is airport commuter. Also living on the Euston rail line and Marylebone rail line, connects to 140 bus at Harrow to LHR. Central area served very frequently to Compass Centre. You just need to know service numbers and times. Bus 75 76 50 First Bus. London Transport 105 U3. Move to T5 National Express will be running direct there. |
