What do you think of the protesters LHR
 

Hey everyone

So what are your thoughts on these stupid protesters camping outside LHR?? Am sooo angry bout it do they know we dont put out as much as Car traffic? And another thing how did they all get to heathrow? fly? drive? I saw a tv interview with one and the reporter asked him how many flights he took a year? he looked really embarressed and said one (lying) the reporter then said well isint that a bit hypocritical?? (sorry bout spelling) They wasn there cake and eat it!!!!!! it makes me really mad!

Dont be too harsh blondechick. One day you may find yourself inclined to disagree with something and decide to protest about it. When that happens, and you believe in it, how would you feel if - and it happened to me, people slow down and spit at you, or abuse you. (ESSO protest about 2001)

All people are trying to do is raise the profile of global emissions problem - in this case I agree that Aircraft movements are the least of our worries - but at least we're enlightened enough as a society to allow this sort of thing to go on.

We have got them here at my place of work. Only a token few but one is too many. They are a bunch of hypocrits who should go out and get real jobs and stop sponging off the tax payer. Causing a public nuisance (and health hazard) is not warranted. I agree with what they stand for, just not how they go about it.:*

Totally agree with you,next week they will be saving the whale cat dodo or visiting the anti meat eaters annual bean eating conference .A bunch of degenerates, wode wearing ,sandal clad,hippy wanabee festival attendees !!Now they have chained themselves to the gates at Biggin Hill and Farnborough ,if they want to do that bloody well leave them there till they rot .

They are no better than terrorists stopping people going about their perfectly legal business or taking a well deserved holiday and this bunch of scabby w:mad:ers should be arrested !!Then charged the bill for policing their pointless disruptive squatting !

c'mon now, they dnt really expect us to take boats across the atlantic now do they? most of those protesters are probably frequent fliers anyway.....trying to..as was said 'have their cake n eat it to'.

I don't like the people who drive Large Vogue Range Rovers and Other similar vehicles. Even if I was a millionaire I would still drive a small car or maybe an electric one but electric still uses an un renewable source in most cases.

The thing is with emissions & global warming, we're all hypocritical in a sense. The large majority of us are now thinking about the consequences, yet we've only known a consumer society that promotes it and its difficult to come to terms with it. - We are all slaves to emissions, both ourselves and the protesters.

The cynics would have us believe its a taxable cause - ergo its an issue. The apologists will say 'well we're just a drop in the ocean compared to the developing world'

Truth is, global warming or no, were are using at an increasing rate, a finite resource. Raising the profile of this in all of us, will cause us to reduce emissions - which are DIRECTLY related to consumption and EXTEND the period in which fossil fuels can sustain us, giving science a chance to come up with something else.

The world changes. Your jobs depend on air travel so you feel the heat - I understand that. I was a victim of the 'peace dividend' rejected at 33 by a country I sought to serve until I was 55 (Ok I got paid too..)

The Miners suffured at the hads of the anti pollution lobby - rember acid rain and smog? But nobody can deny we dont have smogs like we did 50 years ago.

As for the protesters..... well as a serving airman I despised the CND protesters, who made my and my families life difficult from time to time. I remember once when they invaded our Married Quarter area, and layed down in the road and abused my wife as she went to work in the NAFFI - I was angry, they were impinging on MY life and it was my job. When challenged I naturally came down on the side of weapons of mass destruction!! - Do I think that way now? No I don't. - I think I was defending a country, which allowed such liberties. They should have been grateful that I was protecting them, and I should have been greatful that they fueled debate.

Do you think your children, or your childrens children will be thankful that people were willing to stick their necks out, hypocritically or otherwise, and raise the profile of this issue? -Because , just to recap. Cut down on consumption and if global warming exists or not - we cant lose.

I spoke to one of the Squirrel Cuddlers the other day. Whilst I was trying to have a sensible conversation she kept on about the Government being the real terrorists for wrecking the climate; meanwhile the wet weather this summer is the fault of aviation and 'we ain't seen nothing yet'.

global warming,climate change,it's all just a huge international con.the earth has over millions of years had numerous climatic changes,tropical forrests in northern europe,ice ages with ice sheets down to the mediterranean.to think that in the few hundred years that humans have monitored the weather,we suddenly predict massive climate change within a short period of time,utter nonsense !it's all a conspiracy to control our behaviour,preserve limited fossil fuel reserves until viable alternatives can be developed.it also diverts our attention from real issues such as world poverty,starvation,child labour and numerous other disasters that we could all do something now to resolve.those protesting at heathrow are part of a professional band of "tree huggers"who may be well intentioned,but are so far off target it beggars belief.numerous scientists express dismay at this global warming brainwashing which is being drummed into us at such a rate, the authorities hope eventually we will all believe it.aviation does produce carbon,so does most industrious human activity,even living in a cave with a log fire is damaging to the enviroment we are told.just accept,we are being conned !

Thay interviewed somebody called Sarah (or maybe Shiela) who "travelled down from Scotland for the protest"

Unfortunately they picked up on the concept of irony and an instruction was given to all the soap-dodging treehuggers by Swampy Control notto fly. The ones from Leeds went by train or Happy Bus I think (thereby pumping CO2 into the environment anyway). Our local protestor turns up in a minibus whenever she wants to glue herself to the terminal door.

I don't know if they are in the field illegally; it might be that they have permission from the landowner in which case they are not committing an offence (till they actually find one to commit).

why do we tread so lightly with disruptive lawbreakers ? i can't believe that a few hundred undesirables with nothing more than disruption as their intention,are not rounded up and removed by the adequate police resourses deployed to ensure they do not interfere with the smooth operation of heathrow.so much is made about the right to protest,what about the right to go about your business,unhinered and without intimidation?i despair that individulas such as these are given any publicity,they should be dealt with firmly if trespassing or causing any public order offence.
what a miserable old man i sound spouting on about these protesters,but i really do feel that we are far too tolerant of people,intent on causing chaos.i blame it all on human rights legislation gone too far !

Didn't we actually pass laws regarding illegal gatherings constituting more than 2 people who have not notified the authorities - I thnk I just answered my own question there - provided of course they got permission.

Despite my peace loving and devils advocating nature, I do hope they've **** off by a week on wednesday so I can get back home!;)

Protesters - protesting about what? Get the Facts!
 

I find it odd that most of the protesters seem to have lots of bits of metal on and in their bodies and a lot of 6+ coloured hair in evidence. As an aside I have just read that the hottest year of the 20th Century was 1934, not 1998 and that of the 10 warmest years since 1880, 4 were in the 1930s and 3 in the last decade.

It seems that the protest has been hijacked by the warm front johnies, but not one of you has mentioned the fact that 700 people will lose their homes and way of life, seems to me that's a good reason to protest.
Build the new airport in the estuary; should have been started years ago.
