Promotions...

Oh cool - a new thread!

Has anyone who's been around a while done any promotional work for the company? I got called up recently to work an event in one of the other Emirates - and the details were pretty sketchy - just that I had to get the new uniform and the date and event. Do they email/call you details about pick up etc., or do they leave something in the pidgeon hole?

Please let me know, the event's very soon! PM me if you prefer.

I have no idea... maybe they will send you a letter to your mailbox but if you are not sure, call your CCM.

By the way, do you know how to apply for Air Wings? Do you know if we can do so when you are married or you need to be single? Do I need to apply to any specific place or just go to my CCM?

Thanks, and hope to fly with you soonnnn

Promotions

Hi regarding promotions, well i have done a lot before. You shoud have first BP day on which you will go to the office and they will tell you all details. Who ever called you up to inform you you where doing BP should have told you what time is you BP meeting. On which you will get your ticket etc... thats if its overseas.

As regards to Air Wing i think you can be married and you can apply when they advertise on portal to you CCS. I dont think they are recruting at the moment. You cant be SFS or PUR to apply.

Good luck !!!:) :) :)

Joining EK Cabin Crew

Hi MSHOSTESS

Just like you, I am due to fly to Dubai on 9th Feb. I have been told that I will receive my contract 1 week before I travel and my Visa and tickets 3-4 days before I travel.

I have no idea of luggage allowance but hope it will be a lot more than the standard 20kgs!

Have you heard anything or has anyone else, about living over there? I have been told that the money is good but you don't get out to spend it.

Any info on living over there and working for Emirates, eg Rosters, trips and layovers, would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

about ek

Hey there!

I worked for them 2 years and half, I had to resign due to an injury that doctors in dubai didn t know how to treat. Now i m better , thank god.

To start with...ek gives you bout 50kg baggage allowance to fly there.

Money is good , you get 3800 dirhams fix salary and then 47 dh per flight hour, I used to get an average of 6500 dirhams/month as a grade II ( when you start flying), flying around 80 hours a month , which is 1400 euros a month...think this is nett! because you don t have to pay for the accomodation and if you are smart thinking you ll save part of your allowances, which becomes a plus...
You get paid in the local currency.

Contrary to what you think, you ll get lot of free time to spend your money in Dubai, actually banks will come to you and try to endorse you 1 or two credit cards...BE CAREFUL! this is Dubai business ,they ll give if you have in mind to save some money i ll advse to get only a debit card and if you decide to have a credit card , use it only for emergencies.

Night life in Dubai is great! allthought everything closes at 3 am , for me that s odd! cuz in spain everything closes at 6 am or even later...

What really annoys me in Dubai is the traffic and the fact that you need a taxi, bus or your own card to get around.

The hot season is from JUne to Sept.

I hope i have answered some of your questions.

Enjoy your time working with Ek . It s a great experience!

jetkiwi 24th Jan 2007 04:44

Hey wondering after you arrive what are the formalities, such as the 2nd medical - what do they do? How long after you arrive do you start training? And are you put with existing flatmates or are you put together with people off your training course? Thanks for the help!

helfsich 24th Jan 2007 14:38

After you arrive

Ok, when you arrive, the first day you'll get an induction - talks from the Cabin crew team, HR, a fire talk etc and get your uniform fitted. Lots of forms to fill out and hand in.

The second day of induction will include a picture for your ID, plus you'll get some blood taken for testing

After a few days you'll have the medical, where it's pretty much testing and confirming the medical you submitted before flying over. Basic Neurological, Optical, Audio tests. Try and avoid taking Panadine or Nurofen plus in the week before, or anything with codeine as this will show up in the urine test. Any missing x-rays will be taken at the medical centre and deducted from your salary.

You will probably be placed with existing flatmates, and they can vary from crew also in training college, to crew who are SFS's. When they place people together they try to get crew of the same country together, smokers with smokers, etc. But even if you don't get on, you have the option of moving free of charge within the first year of employment.

Hope that helps

MSHOSTESS 24th Jan 2007 20:33

Thank you.... not long now

Thanks EXEK11 & Helcsfich for that information.

Im starting to get really excited now/nervous. I can already tell there will be a few tears shed at the airport on the 9 Feb.

Arrrghhh... more needles. I know this is strange, but I have a fear of needles (I did have all my needles recently, included alot of crying tho :bored: ).

Im really worried about the reach test tho, although I passed it in the open day (just), reaching with one arm & reaching on one leg, Im really scared they'll make me do it reaching on both tippy toes.... which I cant do.

I cant see them accepting me here & flying me all the way back because of that can you ?, or are they that strict ?

Oh, and another stupid but important question..... laptops, is it better to buy them over there or before I go ?, do they have all of our brands.(sony, mac....). I wonder if it would be cheaper too ?

Any way, enough of a novel..... sorry (i took wayyyy too much)

helfsich 25th Jan 2007 10:36

From what I remember they don't do the 'reach test' again in Dubai, but they measure your height so as to get a reading for your Body-Mass Index number.

If they've already flown you to Dubai then I doubt they'd send you back, unless it was due to a very serious medical reason or a huge breach of company policy. I honestly wouldn't stress about it too much.

Laptops...tend to be slightly cheaper here, but in the first couple of month you'll be without flying pay, so you'll have to wait before buying them. I think Macs are the same wherever you go, but the advantage of this job is that you get to shop all over the world, so you can be more choosy. Personally I bought my laptop 3 months after I moved here, and found it cheaper in Dubai than in Australia. But yeah, it depends on what specs you're after. Plus if there's nothing you like here you can wait until you get your annual leave or an australian flight before you can buy, there's not really a huge rush, esp since a lot of hotels we stay in have crew rooms with free internet anyway.

fly_guy100 25th Jan 2007 16:18

When they test your blood again in Dubai, what are all the things that you know about that will disqualify you to be cabin crew with EK and get sent back to your country? I know HIV/AIDS, but what else will no longer let you fly?

skt_84 25th Jan 2007 16:31

Hey People!

Can anyone help? im just about to do my medicals but it seems such a lot to have to pay for by myself. did everyone else have to pay for theirs and was it expensive??

New routes maybe...

As all of you EK crew know we will be flying to Sao Paolo from 1 Aug. The new rumours are that beginning next year 2008 will be a USA explosion....We will be flying to Houston,Chicago,San Francisco and Miami. No plans at the moment for Los Angeles but I am sure it is coming. Actually they are thinking of squeezing in Houston at the end of the year. They are also defnitely adding a fourth New York flight from October this year. Yuck:eek: . Another long Bombay. Anyways next year sounds good if it is coming true cuz the 380 has been delayed. They are planning on using the 777*300ULR now for those routes...

ekkru 12th Feb 2007 04:07

Yup, heard about the USA explosion from some hear say amongst us crew so that would be so so exciting. Hopefully no more Americans in JFK asking us with the American accent, "which airline are you working for?". More exposure would be great. Houston, San Fran, Chicago and Mamma Mia Miami. Love it. LAX im sure would be in the works.

This year, it would be Newcastle, Venice and Sao Paolo. Exciting and Beijo to Brazil!!! See you soon.
