As it happens, I was involved in the set up of Astraeus (+6 years ago) during which we experienced somewhat similar feedback as that described above, i.e. a good many (so called) 'experienced' people were turned away and / or were indignant about the interview process that we put them through.
However, having worked at Astraeus for +6 years I can say that, imho, in the vast majority of cases the recruitment process was spot-on, with my colleagues being a delight to work with!

Indeed it’s very much my recollection that many of the 'experienced’ people taken on at Astraeus, i.e. during its formative months / years, singularly then fell by the wayside; typically due to these people being far too entrenched in their ideas and / or beset with a big / established airline mentality; this being something which does not fit well within an airline that is still in its early / embryonic phase.

Given its pedigree / heredity, I would suspect that Zoom are doing something very similar to what we did when we started Astraeus, i.e. in terms of the caliber of people it’s looking to recruit.

In any event, it’s my contention that you can pretty much tell who you’re going to recruit within the first 30 seconds of an interview!

Ps. Without wishing to incur the wrath of the Freedom-of-Expression Police, I feel very inclined to comment about the atrociously poor level of spelling, punctuation and grammar exhibited in some of the posts above. Imho it demonstrates a sloppy attitude, about which I personally would chuck any application form showing such lack of attention to detail in to the bin,… wherein some people really do need to ‘cop on’ about ‘standards’ in all respects of the word!

Zoom Interviews
 
Hi,

One of my friends found out yesterday that he got the job with zoom. He said the interview process was very long and only (I think) 7 out of 40 people got through to the 2-2-1 interviews. I actually used to work with 2 crew who do the recruitment for Zoom and they are lovely hard working and very fair people. :ugh: Has anyone ever tried asking for feedback on where you went wrong?? I'm sure they would give this info to you if you were to ask..

Whilst I tend to agree with the majority of your post, when you start commenting on spelling, punctuation and grammar I find it very hypocritical of you. Considering your use of a comma followed by several full stops. :=

As for the comments left by previous Zoom UK candidates I would agree also on comments that they are just "sour grapes" however their must be some truth in the reports due to the sheer volume of negative comments.

Other airlines such as Monarch, Thomsonfly or even Virgin may attract a small percentage of complaints, some may even be valid but on the whole most are just sour grapes. You cannot label all these comments in the same catorgory.

The sheer volume of delays and poor trip reports from passengers is enough to put me off applying, if the customers have to put up with this, then so do the Cabin Crew. Something i'm not prepared to do on a regular basis.

p.s. I do hope my grammar was acceptable for you.

End of the day ZOOM UK shouldn't be going along the same way as how Astraeus did and shouldn't have the same Manual / Drills, they should make it there own Airline and maybe should have went down the path as how ZOOM Canada has and made it so the two airlines / crew could work togeather when it was needed and maybe that would have helped the airline gave itself a better name as it came under the ZOOM Canada brand and how well they start and is still doing but sadly ZOOM UK seems to be bring that down over time and time...

As from spelling etc... this is a form so if people dont spell word correct or short talk then it's up to them, ofcourse people correct all this when applying to airline and as what i hear from ZOOM interview, they dont see any spelling until the test paper (after the team buliding game of putting wooden blocks back into a box, when people stand over the top of you shouting things to put your and your team off!!!!) how can pick the right people by doing this?!?

I attended the Zoom interview this week and I made it through to the 2-2-1 interview and I would just like to add to some of the comments being made on here. Yes the day involved alot of waiting around but I have experienced this at many airline interviews, Virgin for one! The group exercises are there to see how you interact with others, how well you work as a team, see if you are a leader etc etc. I found the whole day fun and thought the recruiters were lovely. On my day they took a real mixture of people through, some experienced crew (me being one of them), some with no previous flying experience, some older people, some younger people. I DO NOT think it was a case of "if your face fits on the day" as I thought all people who made it through were great people who involved themselves in every exercise and made an effort with people all day.
Sorry but I can't fault Zoom. I travelled a long way for the interview and it was totally worth it.

Umm - No. Actually, the forum rules, found in the FAQ that 007bhoy clearly hasn't bothered to read, specifically require that your posts be in English: Nokia text speak isn't allowed, which is why several of his posts have been deleted.

If you wish your contribution to be taken seriously, it would be wise to write in a manner that helps people to read and understand your point of view. If you choose to write in an incoherent babble that is missing the most basic levels of punctuation, grammar and spelling then it should come as no surprise that others won't take you seriously - after all, the only evidence available for their making a judgement is what you have written.

Zoom have the absolute right to conduct an interview in any way they choose, and if they wish to hire people other than some of you, then that's up to them. I've been turned down twice recently - the most recent one can't even be bothered to write/phone/email with a No: Just phone calls to the lucky ones - Life goes on. I don't whine about it in a public internet forum because that would make me look foolish and petty - some of you may wish to consider that as an option and grow up a little.

Just one point, a candidate did ask for feedback so they could improve next time and this was refused point blank.............good to hear some balanced comments from those that did get through, let us know you experiences once you start.

TightSlot - Thanks for following up on that, wherein what you’ve said is precisely what I was alluding to.

For those folks (e.g. 007bhoy) whom suggest that airlines should endeavor to be ‘original’ and / or not to copy / plagiarize the work of other airlines, you might be interested to know that the CAA kindly provide pro-forma versions of what constitutes an airlines bible; namely the ‘Operations Manual’.
Most airlines Operations Manuals are based on this and, necessarily, look very similar (because it’s a requirement of the CAA / JAR that they do).
Airlines are then able to amend this holy tome – always remembering that any changes have to be submitted to the CAA for approval.

It might further be of interest to know that Astraeus’ Operations Manual was a mixture of stuff from City Flyer (which in itself was influenced in its ownership by Air Europe and then latterly by British Airways) and similarly a mixture of stuff from British World Airlines along with a good dash from GoFly (which itself was strongly influenced by British Airways). Need I go on?
So, whilst not having seen it, I’d imagine that Zoom’s manuals have been influenced by its heredity – just as are all other airlines.

Therein, in this day and age, reinventing the wheel, i.e. with respect to the Operations Manual, is neither commercially expedient, nor required. However, where tangible changes can be made is in the cabin service; and I’m led to understand that Zoom have made good inroads in that direction.

Dan D'air - yes, but not exclusively so. There are a significant number of folks at Zoom whom have years of experience with airlines other than (and / or maybe including) Astraeus... and no doubt with more to join in due course.

I personally do not agree that it was sour grapes for my experience or being bitter towards other successful applicants.
You see Zoom is not the airline I really wanted to work for it was basically a way to get 6months long haul experience, having just finished at BMI.
But I thought as it is another airline doing long haul I should give it a try.

The whole formal structure did annoy me as I felt I interacted well at the group excerise and I saw people in my group who really got involved equally and they also found the tests okay, so suprisingly when not one candidate from my table was not given the opportunity to do a 2-2-1, It made me feel appearance, looks, Impression and judgement must come into it but what they felt would suit their airline.

I have never ever not gone through to a 2-2-1 interview as I always present myself well and I have have over 10 years of face to face customer service. I just feel how can you anticipate an individuals character and suitablity for a role just by one team assesment:rolleyes: and a test. There has to be more to it.
Just rather annoyed I wasted £15 to not even have a chance to do a personal interview and see what they thought.

And they also kept my photo.
I think we are all entitled to share our experience even If it is moaning. But I am alright now, time to grab other opportunites that I really wanted to do.

This forum is intended for working Cabin Crew: Some time ago it was nearly over run with wannabees, and for that reason the wannabee threads were established to be a source of information for those seeking recruitment. It would seem that the wannabee threads are now being used for a sort of social networking function instead.

You need to be very clear on this - If your post does not contain concrete fact about the recruitment then it has no business on PPRuNe - anywhere: This means that any of the following stuff is not to be posted...

Facebooks, blogs, I'm so happy for you, woohoo I got it, wish me luck, send me a PM, msn me, will you be at the interview, follow your dreams etc. etc. All of this should be done by PM on PPRuNe (if you must - we'd rather that you didn't use our server space for it) or by Text Message - in fact do it anyway that you want - BUT DON'T POST IT ON A THREAD.

I work for Zoom and the Ground staff and crew are the nicest people i have ever worked with. The Problem stands for most of you bitching is that you did not get a job with us. How lucky we are that they found out what you were like at Interview and you did not get on line would have been nightmare working with people that moan so much.

I do not work for ZOOM and have no intention to but I have read this thread with great interest and would like to add my two pence.

Puritan vehemently proclaims that grammar and diction is of great value to ZOOM UK yet Cabin man works for them and from the above quoted paragraph clearly struggles with grammar and punctuation. (Apologies for using you as an example)

Also, Cabin Man, IMHO the reason there are so many people "moaning" is because they were not given the chance to show "what they were like at interview".

Perhaps it is sour grapes perhaps it is more but this is a public forum and as such there will always be conflicting opinions as demonstrated by those candidates who are excited to join the airline and those that are not.

Ps. This is merely my personal observations. :)

I would like to ask is there possibility to become a PR in UK and what are the procedures? How can I get the legal permit to work in UK as a flight attendant? Is that possible that I get employed and work till I get the PR?
