US Citizens Applying for Qantas?
I was told by a US citizen during the application process for the position of a flight attendant, it asked if he was a US passport holder. Does this mean US citizens are eligible to apply and if hired, Qantas will help with the permanent residency papers and all that?

Flyguy,
You must be confused ! Residency in Australia ? Qantas does not hire Australians anymore. No need to worry about relocating to Australia ! Just move to San Fran and get ready for the new base ! Life is great ! |
Huh? So your saying Qantas is planning to open up a SFO base soon? What do you mean by Qantas not hiring Australians anymore?
|
he/she is taking the piss out of you.
What he means, is that QF is opening bases up all over the world to employ cheap casual labour, instead of Australians. This can be seen on many crew, as the ratio of Aussies is on the decline. I dont know if the possibility of an SFO base exists, but their is a rumour that QF is trying to get access to it (as a destination, not a base), after it pulled out years ago, and didnt realise there was a big waiting list to get back in. |
As a US passport holder you would be eligible to apply as Australian based crew .You require a Valid passport that pemits entry to all the ports Qf flies to (which you have )and permanent residency status in Australia which gives you the right to work in oz.
I doubt if Qf would be bothered assisting you with premanent residency status if you don't already have it. Unless of course you would be willing to work for a bowl of rice a day as your remuneration. :p |
How hard is it to get permament residency? If the profession is a flight attendant is there any way I can get it?
|
Go to DIMIA's (dept of immigrations) site
http://www.immi.gov.au/permanent/ that's the link on permanant residency |
It's actually quite difficult to get residency unless you are already a skilled migrant. Unfortunately, being a flight attendant isn't considered to be a profession with a skills shortage.
You would need to satisfy the points criteria for general migration unless you marry / partner up with an Australian. Points are allocated on several factors, including age, employment, educational and technical qualifications etc etc etc. |
