Although it may seem harmless to try to be witty when reading the Safety Demo, I guarantee the CAA (and the airline's) take a VERY dim view of it. The airline I work for encourage us to use our personality and humour on the PA but catergorically forbid us from making the Safety Demo "funny". I bet BA management would like to hear what this 'lady purser' had to say.

I have to give this one a big thumbs up - :ok:

Firstly, the substance of the demo wasn't changed. The information required to be provided was given to the passengers in full. The fact also remains that regardless of what the actual safety briefing text says, the whistle really is there to attract the attention of passing sailors - whether they be RNLI or from some fishing trawler out catching Carp (please, don't give me a lesson on the habitats of Carp!).

Sad fact of the matter is that people seldom listen to or pay attention to the safety demos and as long as the correct instructions are given as to how to use safety equipment properly, comments like this Purser's are really entirely harmless.

I totally agree with you Eddy. A lot of people don't want to listen to safety demos because they don't want to think about it, it can be a bit of a sour point for some passengers. I think any discreet "light heartedness" in the safety PA is a good thing as it makes the pax pay attention. Obviously do not take this humour too far, otherwise passengers might not think you take their safety seriously.

I fly so many times and pax ask for reasons for procedures ie. "why do we put our window blinds up for t/o?" or "why can't we listen to our iPods for landing?" A simple explanation (without straying from the point) in my opinion is harmless. I can't think of any other reason a lifejacket has a whistle on it!!!

How many times have you sat through a safety PA and the purser drones....and drones....and drones - everybody switches off and nothing is learned. It's just like teaching kids, lessons have to be interesting or they lose concentration. I'm just as guity at that!

I would love to say thanks to the BA crew who looked after me on the flight to Milan Linate on Sunday 5th Feb. (dep LHR 07:40).
Sensaish effort. :ok:

I actually changed my travel request to fly back to LHR with BA on Friday, but then work told us to ferry the lil jet to Luton. Oh well.
