I just want to start hee a thread with all infos regarding GB airways operations...

I'm about to apply for them and I would appreciate if anyone of you could give here some inputs about selections, conditions, salary, allowance, well all about GB'!

Also a good xay to keep others informed of who's going for an interview and when! Etc

Congratulation for your application with GB Airways! Some questions have arisen then...

[APPLICATION]

- Have you had to wait a long time before getting a feedback from GB Airways, regarding your application as an Air Cabin Crew with them?

- Have you been shortlisted onto a list for the interview? Were they flexible (e.g BA's system with a multiple choice of assessment dates)?

[ASSESSMENT DAY]

- What would be your words to describle the way you were feeling on that particular exciting day? Relaxed? Stressed? Were you with a lot of people at the assesment?

- Where did it happen? MAN?

- What is it all about? Introduction to others, Group exercice(s) then personal interview?

- Have you got the result of your day quickly? Email, phone call?

[CONDITIONS, BASES etc]

- How is the salary divided into parts? (Salary, Sector Pays, Nightstop? allowance, commision?)

- Roughly, how many hours flown by month? (70 < block hours < 90+)?

- Where does the training take place? For how long (5,6+ weeks?)? Is accomodation provided whilst on training?

the whole procedure from sending form to getting job took about 10 days
- Have you been shortlisted onto a list for the interview? Were they flexible (e.g BA's system with a multiple choice of assessment dates)?

they offer dates by email or phone, you accept one you can go to. They're all day events on Sats or Suns usually
[ASSESSMENT DAY]
- What would be your words to describle the way you were feeling on that particular exciting day? Relaxed? Stressed? Were you with a lot of people at the assesment?

Same as any other recruitment day, do a search on what happens

- Where did it happen? MAN?

Mostly LGW they do arrange MAN ones now for that base
- What is it all about? Introduction to others, Group exercice(s) then personal interview?

All of those
- Have you got the result of your day quickly? Email, phone call?

You get a call a few days later if you're successful sometimes the following day. You then get a letter confirming this, then when a date comes up they phone to offer it to you and you get another letter. Then when you sign that one you get the contact.

You get basic salary, flight pay per hour (includes nightstopping i.e. total number of hours from start to finish of a shift, and commission)
- Roughly, how many hours flown by month? (70 < block hours < 90+)?

Depends if you're lgw or man. Man seem to fly a bit less but someone can clarify this
- Where does the training take place? For how long (5,6+ weeks?)? Is accomodation provided whilst on training?

Usually LGW, although they try to get together MAN groups to do training there. No accommodation provided for training.

By the way, Turroncin, can you tell me if a GB CC gets trained on all types of aircraft (737/A320/A321) and thus would be able to operate on every destinations accross the network?

Hi, you will be trained on A320/321's only. The 737's are no longer with GB Airways. A full BA service is also provided to the passengers (you can book to fly GB through the BA website) although there is rumour of Manchester base going retail I believe. This shouldn't affect LGW and LHR for now though. Hope this helps, and good luck!

PS. You'll fly on all destinations that fly from your base. :)

You also sometimes do LHR flights if you are LGW and vice versa. You might check in, be bused to LHR fly to GIB and then fly back to LGW. MAN crew somtimes end up doing LGW if they're short of staff, and when they first opened MAN, LGW crew did the flights!

Why join the airline:
- Brand new airbus planes (no rough boeing smells)
- Friendly crew (in their majority)
- Usually end up enjoying your flight and having a nice day out.
- Nice nights out in Malaga, Faro and the occasional visit to the Souk in RAK is always appreciated
- Friendly and approachable training instructors

Why avoid the airline:
- SSH, HRG and PFO there and back flights (usually ends up being a 15 hour day)
- Poor Management team within the Cabin Services department
- Getting called at home out of duty hours for numerous favours mainly due to staff shortage
- Very high turnover of staff, mostly due to the items in this list.
- High flying hours within busy periods which means that you end up covering your limited 900 yearly hours within 10 months, and end up with a roster full of stand bys and non ops
- Very limited number of night stops (usually 1 a month during summer, none in the winter)
- No "equal opportunity" for promotion...

As you can see, there are many reasons to join the airline, as there are to avoid it. Most of this happens in other airlines anyway, so nothing really new stated in this list for experienced flyers.

I will really think of my application with GB as I have an interview with my current employer to become a purser... So let see what happens next!

i'm joining next week too.....

looking forward to it as i've only heard good reports so far.

The long days sound a bit tough though...Sharm el Sheik there AND back!!??
