What should MEN wear to Cabin Crew interviews?

Hi

Im an Australian and have applied for Qantas, Qantas Link, Jetstar, Virgin Blue and OzJet. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to wear if I am successful for any of these mentioned airlines? Suit Colour? Shirt and Tie Colour & Pattern?

All help greatly appreciated.

Michael

Hi!! Firstly let me say good luck with your quest for a flying job.

I guess you are asking what you should wear to an interview should you be successful in gaining one...

Well here is my opinion... it doesn't matter how much your suit costs, if it is not immaculately pressed and clean/lint free than it will not do the trick...! So, the secret is no matter what you wear, make sure it fits you well and suits you... complements your skin tones. Hair should be neat, no extreme styles etc... also if it is dyed, make sure it looks natural... most airlines do not like men with unnatural dye jobs.... :)

I guess it is a bit harder for you blokes (who'd have thought i would ever say that, lol!) but you want to stand out... I think the tie is your best bet for this. Nothing too 'loud' but with a nice pattern/colour, again that complements your suit colour... I guess you could choose something similar to the airline's own colours (without blatantly copying), only as long as it suits you though. As with the ladies, a tie/scarf is your chance to 'personalise' your outfit...

Shoes polished, no scuffs, etc... no 'chunky' heels... standard dress shoes etc...

In short, look as you would be expected to look on the job!!

But above all else, the most important thing you can wear is....

A SMILE.... and BELIEF in yourself!!!! :)

Good luck!!! :ok:

haha, was just about to post the exact same question on the EK thread.
I wasnt sure if i should get wear a Jacket, never had to wear one up here - 'territory formal' doesnt really require a tie let alone a jacket. Guess I better go all out - dont wanna be one of these casual ppl at an EK interview/Openday ;) haha :ok:

Always wear a suit (including the jacket!).

When I recruited, personally someone copying our company colours didn't do it for me - I preferred someone who was a bit more original and siaplayed their real personality.

Don't justthink about the tie - look for a good combination of shirt colour/tie too - way too many people wear white shirts, blue, green and red shirts can all look fantastic, with the right tie too!

Make sure your shoes are polished, remove any and all piercings (ears included), wear only your watch and wedding ring (if applicable), be cleanly shaven, wear a touch of after shave etc.

Recruiters just want to see that you can brush up to what you'll need to be on-board AND that you can show a bit of personality in doing so.

Hey Michael

In regards to your thread and what other people have written, wear clothing that suits the airline:

We all know that the suit has to be in good condition, your hair neat and tidy, shoes polished - BIG DEAL we all know that - here is what is recommended for each airline -

VIRGIN BLUE - relaxed enviroment - its all about having fun, etc
Suit Jacket, White Shirt, Cartoon Tie - NOT RECOMMENDED
Coloured, shirts, Bright tie, pin stipped pants - RECOMMENDED

QANTAS - Corporate
Classic and conservative for a professional look, neutral colours are good, windsor knot for the tie, white or blue collared shirt - RECOMMENDED
Bright colours and unmatched clothing - NOT RECOMMENDED

Airlines such as OZET, QANTAS LINK all go for a similar look to Qantas, so when your getting prepared - think of the market they are aiming towards - what u wear to a Jetstar interview is different to a Qantas Interview

Hope this helps!

Cheers

what to wear?

Hiya Michael.
Best of luck with your applications matey! As for what to wear, I can only speak for Virgin CC interviews. First is a don't - people assume because Virgin has a slightly young trying to be relaxed and cool image that they can dress down! As in i've even seen people turn up for interview in Jeans... They will remind you in their e-mail to you regarding your interview that it is an "interview" and therefore dress appropriately. So a suit is a defo, and I whole heartedly agree with the comment re the tie makes the impression for men. To this day my recruiter remembers how much she liked the colour and pattern of my tie!
Smiles are the other big big fashion item to wear, from the moment you arrive for interview until you leave. Even if you get the thanks but not this time letter at the group interview, keep smiling and be confident and positive in your interactions. Gives a good impression and could help you the next time around.
The fit of clothes is again a good pointer, don't wear a suit that barely fits or looks like your big brothers, grooming is vital. Clean nails etc... etc.... it all gets noticed, the recruiters at Virgin are incredibly keen eyed all they do year round is recruiting!
And most of all mate, please just be yourself, don't try to be falsely jolly or jovial, it comes through as forced and they will notice it.

Again best of luck! Once you get through you are in for a helluva good time, no matter who you end up working for!

Cheers.

Thanks for your help! Let me know what you think and if it looks ok for an interview?
:ok:

milbud 4th Feb 2006 06:17

Hey Michael, don't stress, the photo looks fine! Remember, they are looking for people who show potential to be cabin crew, they don't expect you to have the cut and polished finish until they train you. Each airline has individual characteristics that they try to instill! They don't want anyone who looks set in stone and can't be moulded.
As for your pic, i'd use that one to apply to Virgin as well, don't make the mistake others do and think you have to be whacky and way out. They don't seem to take well to that! Please please please, just remember to be yourself mate, and try to have fun going through the process! After all if you don't get through the first time you can try again. I went through the Virgin process three times with no luck then fourth time, bingo!
I have a good mate at Qantas Link, i'll ask him to drop you a few hints as well...
And on good advice, applications to DJ would be best gotten in very very soon, intakes will start again shortly...

Best of luck mate.
Keep us posted.

Thanks, I've applied with Virgin, Jetstar, Qantas, Eastern Airlines - Qantas Link and Oz Jet. Only applied this year. Have got all my certificates and documents ready and have applied online. Now im just waiting to hear from any of them. I've seen on staffcv that since I've been a member 7 searches have been done from airlines however mine was never retreived.:ugh:

I totaly forgot about the emirates recuritment day!

SkySista 4th Feb 2006 08:06

I totaly forgot about the emirates recuritment day!
Don't worry, they'll be back in around two months or so!!! :ok:

Also, have you considered National Jet? They have bases over East in CNS and ADL...! :)

Good luck!!

cckat 5th Feb 2006 05:05

Don't forget the smaller ones in Oz too, if you don't mind relocating (in the job you'd hope not, eh???)
I just got selected for a job with National Jet and am off from Adelaide to Perth, but Rex are hiring too!

Oh, as for the clothing, even if the email says its a seminar DON'T rock up in shorts and a t-shirt (I was at a "seminar" where someone did this!)

apaddyinuk 5th Feb 2006 05:30

Whatever you wear DONT try to wear something that looks similiar to the airlines own uniform, believe it or not but this is a bit of a no no. I still laugh at stories of girls and guys turning up for Virgin Atlantic interviews in red suits for the girls and shiny waistcoat jackets on the boys!!! Just something smart and sharp should be enough! Funny though, for my BA interview I wore a dark navy pinstripe suit with red lining...who would have though that it would soon look like the new BA uniform...fortunately the interviewers obviously didnt know either!!! :}

SkySista 5th Feb 2006 07:18
