Do you survive on your salary?

Some of the cabin Crew salaries I have seen advertised seem low and I was just wondering how you all survive? Obviously in a way the job outweighs the salary I am sure!! with priceless experiences!! Do airlines offer a lot of staff perks? and do they pay all your expenses when you are on layovers etc?

Really appreciate any feedback you might have!!

The salary that is advertised with the job is not a very good representation of the money that you take home every month. At easyJet where I am crew, you will get money for each sector that you do, commission for products that you sell onboard. And if you stay at a hotel at the other end, you will get paid for the nights spent away from home. Your meals will be covered at the hotel too.

So although the basic salary is around £10000 pa, you will take home basic pay + sector pay + commission + night stop allowance which adds up to £1300-£1500 per month after tax, there will be a few months where you take home less for example when you are on annual leave. Through the summer months when your are worked off of your feet you will most likely take home more.

Other airlines may vary in their pay structure, some will pay slightly more, some will pay less.

My absolute dream is to be Cabin crew based in the UK, but i find it hard to get over the fact that you are all only taking home 1300-1500 pe month?

How do you afford the mortgage/rent in a city like London on that alone?1?

It's easy. It's called living with parents!!!

Seriously though, if you are single and on those wages you are most probably living with parents or renting a room in a house with other crew. If you have a working partner or you yourself work for British Airways, then you are laughing. By all accounts, British Airways crew have a lot higher earning potential at LHR than most other airlines in the UK.
