BA or EK, CABIN CREW,WHICH ONE TO GO FOR?
 

HI GUYS, AFTER SPENDING HOURS ON THIS WEB, I REALLY WANT TO BECOME CABINE CREW. Where should i start??

It very much depends what you want from the job. For an excellent salary and career opportunities BA come highly recommended. For lots of fun any charter airline, I have friends at Brittania and MyTravel and they have a fantastic time.

Excellent sallary at BA??? who you kiddin? they guys at easyJet get paid way more than that of BA crew! If you wanna put up with the slaggin from pax for having no catering onboard - oh why was that now? - cause BA ground staff walked out in sympathy and made the situation far worse- I'd choose to work for the worlds best airline in my opinion EMIRATES - where you will be treated as a person and will be looked after out there. By far the best option. Less chance of loosing your job there too. At BA they are all to quick to cut jobs when something goes wrong. Emirates never had and job losses after 9/11 where as BA had hundreds and look at them now desperate for crew.

Go to the middle east girl and have a far more enjoyable life and carreer

In at least the last 20 years BA has never had to make COMPULSORY redundancies (even after 9/11). Also I have several mates at easyJet and I earn more than any of 'em.

most easyjet crew at lgw are taking over £2k home monthly now . so you can't really complain. and BA did make redundancies after 9/11

Nobody from the cabin crew community lost there jobs after September 11th.

I have been with BA nearly 16 years and they have NEVER in that time made crew redundant. Severance yes but Redundancey no.

How many hours/sectors do you have to do to get £2k at easy? A lot more than LHR Euro BA!!!!!!

Where the hell did you get your facts? BA does not sack people at the drop of a hat, they didnt sack anyone after 9/11 and no cabin crew have been let go as of late except for people who have not managed to get through the training! Longhaul ex LHR earn a lot of money, more than Virgin or easyjet, we have pensions and some excellent benefits. As for the ground staff, that was only 1000 loaders and not check in or anyother customer service staff. I have worked in the Middle East I certainly would NOT recommend it, you are not looked after by emirates and if you think that you are fooling yourself. More people get quietly and systematically shoved out of emirates and other middle eastern airlines than BA lose in retirements!!!
You obviously failed the BA interview with an attitude like that!

It all depends on your personality! If you're OK living away from home (though UK flights are very frequent, and depending on your ability/luck with the fairly new bid system, you're likely to see more of your near and dear than their nearer -and with id90s 'v' train tickets, dearer!)

We do get spoilt rotten here. Luxury apartments, including a pool, gym and sauna: uniforms dry cleaned within 24 hours and a bus to and from the airport. After 4 years I can't complain, but it can get a bit lonely at times. Petrol and cars are cheap and there's PLENTY to do socially, whether you be the sporty type or a total beer monster! The beach is never more than 20 minutes away (rush-hour permitting!) and the restaurants and clubs numerous.
Summer's a bit of a killer with temperatures up to 50 in the past, but then you just bid for Europe or Oz.
All in all not a bad package. For the first year or so in Economy expect to work hard, but promotions are pretty quick industry-wise and I even know one guy who became Purser within 3 years...not bad! First class is a dream and a pleasure to work in. Either way it's a great airline to see the world, experience culture, luxury (and see poverty eg Dhaka) and get or head down and be promoted or not get your head down and burn-out partying. Plus it looks good on your CV!!!!

Apaddyinuk I wouldn't even waste my time filling in the application form to work for BA. Bunch of lazy , unionised crew. U won't do anything if its not in your job description. Waste of time i say. I can easily see why u didn't get on in the middl east with your attitude. And virgin do not get paid nearly as much as easyjet! I know that for a fact, as i have worked for them for 6 yrs. Didn't come anywhere near what i'm on now.. Don't forget I'm still on probationary salary and still breaking £2k monthly

Where do you get your info from.......................try doing a search on here about BA job cuts . some topics which came up were ' BA to slash 10,000 jobs,' and ' BA to make 5,800 redundant and cut 50 a/c' All very soon after 9/11. so i suggest you get you facts right considering you work for them 'apparantly'

I think your last post has just lost you the last of your credability!!!!
And did I say Virgin earn more than Easy? I have lots of friends working for Easy and they have read your comments and are embarrassed beyond belief that they work with someone like yourself.
Some people choose to fly for the likes of easyjet for the money, others join airlines such as BA and Virgin for the lifestyle. I dont earn up to 2k a month at LGW WW but when I transfer to LHR WW next month I may. But it doesnt bother as I achieve enough job satisfaction as it is which is more important to most people of substance these days!
Your opinions of BA are certainly unfounded and if you dont beleive me why not ask all the crew from Easy who have come over to join us. I had two former Easyjet pursers in my training course alone and indeed they didnt have anything bad to say about their former employer only that it is a completely different product so therefore a different job to certain extents!
And as for threads on here about BA slashing jobs, this is Pprune, most of what is said in here needs to be taken at face value and dismissed until it actually occurs.
As said earlier...NO CREW WERE SACKED by BA following 9/11 therefore your accusation that a job with BA is not secure lacks foundation! As for the reduced staff numbers following 9/11, this was through a systematic process of offering early retirements, relocating various utilities and not extending temporary or probationary contracts (easy did something similiar post 9/11...how do I know, my cousin was let go only she was rehired again a number of weeks later HOWEVER she was lucky as others were not). Also there are still a number of staff on extended unpaid leave at their own choice!
As for the middle east, I spent 2 happy years there working very hard for Qatar. I did CUT IT considering most of the europeans leave within 6-12 months. However, I dont believe in letting a company force me to lose civil liberties under the name of religion and thats what happens in the gulf! I respect each individuals religions and beliefs (and choice of jobs and airlines for that matter) and I will adapt to show respect but thats as far as I will go.
Matey, I suggest you cop yourself on and lose the attitude. Its clear to anyone reading here that you are disgruntled at something. Believe it or not but its not the BA way to have an attitude towards other airline crew (although I know a tiny minority of BA crew are pre-madonnas and do us no favours), its more often other airlines crew that have a presumption and attitude with us...much like yourself!
