Line training

The airline i work for is creating new position. The role is similar to what i previously know as a line trainer.

The role involves observing on every aspect of cabin crew flying, highlightly areas of excellence and key weakness areas for improvement.

As i have applied and as we currently don't have such a position. I am interested to know what other airlines have in the way of in-flight training, and the responsibilities of the role.
How much depth to they go in to?
Do you feel you benefit from it?
How do you receive your feedback?
Is there any way line trainers could do there job better?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Angel

I held a similar position in my previous airline.

Basically you have to be a "role"model to hold such a position meaning that you deliver in terms of cabin service, customer service, crew management what the company lay down in their operating procedures/guidelines.
In other words you have to be a bit squeaky clean cos at the end of the day you are possibly telling crew what they did well and also where they can improve whilst THEY are looking at what you did/do as well.

The best advice is to lead by example, admit when you are wrong or have made a mistake but above all respect and encourage all forms of feedback from your crew and involve them in decision making because they may have great skills outside of flying that can help in your day to day working environment.

Dont be shy in making suggestions on how things could be done better as long as you back it up with specifics and examples.... if you do have to give constuctive feedback and give them examples /actual events the individual can`t disagree.

Oh and also dont expect someone to do something you are not prepared to do yourself (and that includes the vomit patrol, the blocked loo/sink syndrome or the letchy pax/crew issues!!!)

I have to say that I gained an immense sense of satisfaction and also respect from my work colleagues in holding that job, as well as guiding and developing people to achieve their full potential, thus making sure that the customers/passengers were happy and the crew had a happy working environment.

You can also make it fun and you will always learn something new everyday.

So I would say go for it!!!!!!!
