need advice
 

hi all,
i'm 20 yrs old and have wanted to work as air cab crew since the age of 10. after finishin college and giving uni a try, i decided to go for my dream job and now have an i'view with an airline at the end of the month which is great... but now my friends have decided to go travelling and this is something i also want to do, so now can't decide what to do! do i put air cab on hold for a year? but then if i cancel i'view will it go against me when i come to reapply next year? do i go to the i'view and see what happens? but then IF i get the job, i don't go travelling and may regret it? although my friends and family dont agree with me, i feel that i should travel now before startin my career in air cabin crew.
would really appreciate any advice or comments. thank you.chan x

You're background is very simillar to mine! I'm 20 gave uni a try and always wanted to be cabin crew! I took the plunge and now work as a full time cabin crew member. I think the best thing for you to do is to start travelling. Once you start working for an airline you will hardly have time to scratch your own arse let alone travel imo! Also the novelty of travelling will soon wear off and i'd say go and enjoy it while you can. I wish i'd have travelled a bit before i started, but i was quite well travelled as a youngter so i don't regret it too much!
I very much doubt the airline would hold it against you if you don't go to the interview. At my interview about five people didn't turn up and apparently it happens all the time so no worries there. Which airline is it for out of interest?
I don't know if that's been any help to you, but i tried! Good luck in deciding!!

Hey there, very similar too. I went to college then onto Uni but left Uni after i applied and was succsesful with my first airline job. Up to then i had a limited amount of travel. i dont think i regret joining before i had the chance to do more traveling. With the industry always changing i didn't want to risk loosing a shot at my dream job. Since then i have travelled more than ever (and im SH) Spain America and now im of to Oz for a month!!

Its a hard choice, but whats more important to you? If your confident that you can be succsessful in another interview then go traveling. Im sure the pension contributions could hold off one more year lol

Hi! Big choice. Travelling is great and once you start flying, although you may have staff discounts you may not get hols at the right time to go with your buddies. There is nothing like regret...
If you do chose to go travelling don't just not turn up for the interview - that will look bad (maybe they won't remember you when you reapply but who knows - it common courtesy anyway) mayb you could make up a good reason why you are not attending the interview and let them know.
Or you couild just go through the process and go to the interviews- sometimes airlines have a number of interviews and sometimes even quite a lot of time between 1st and 2nd interview and then some keep you on a wait list for a while b4 starting you in a training school. Suss out the interview process and dates.... Big choice but if your really unsure you could go to the interviews and still not take a job offer if you had a good excuse. Anyway you're only young, airlines love people with life experience and travelling is great experience. If you dont want to miss out go travelling and apply next time!! Best of Luck!

I don't know what opportunities are like in the UK, Europe etc, but in Australia it is very hard to get the job of Flight Attendant, so i would take the job and go travelling later, plus you'd get your staff discount etc and as said you may not get your holidays when you want them, but hey, you've got the job and the discounts sooooo...... it just depends how much you want the job? Then again, i don't know what the opportunites are like over there? Good luck either way

Apparently in the South East of England they are desperate for crew, well that's what they tell us anyway!!! I still think travelling first would be better though!!!
