Snippy flight attendant felt prodded to poke

John McLeod didn't immediately return his seat to its full upright position as a US Airways jet approached Tampa last month, and he was shocked by the consequences.

The 60-year-old small business owner from Asheville, N.C., said a flight attendant rebuked him and gave him sharp pokes in the shoulder.

Every once in awhile, on of these turkeys (ie; CC turkey) tries to 'enforce' their 'commands'...and clearly, if found unjustified, needs to be terminated forthwith.

Airlines do not need troublemakers like this working for them...many really need to look at their CC very carefully to weed out these malcontents.

I can't believe there are still people out there who think Americans don't do sarcasm.....;-)

We have all flown positioning or otherwise as a passenger.
Here in the last few months I have had to bite my tounge several times.
Understand their frustration.
Not a nice place to be now days.
Next time one of these guys has an attitude, remember we have all been through this too.
Not saying to drop our gaurd by no means.
But they do pay our salaries.

.......Who was 60 plus..... the pax or the crew? Maybe CC with that attitude have been at it a bit too long? If she/he was in our company, and the pax lodged a complaint, he/she would have been sacked.

Remember, even if they're a little annoying and inconvenient, they are still worthy of your courtesy, and they DO pay your salary!!! If you think otherwise then you REALLY have been at it too long.

Probably a fun 'prod' taken completely out of context.. for gods sake chill...

Recall a flight back from LAX a couple of years back on Virgin.

Managed to get exit seat - when they were free - sat next to a FO and chatted quite happily during boarding and he seemed a nice professionial guy... then he started to read a broad sheet newspaper...

CC asked him politely to place it in the 'rack' during taxi/take off and the fuss he made was unbelievable despite her calm explaination of the safety reasons and eventual need to actually take it from him.

My opinion of him dropped very rapidly - surely CC should expect co-operation and support from fellow crew, even if they are flight deck crew.

Same old thing it seems - 'we' are making judgements without actually knowing the details....

Let me first point out that I am not Cabin Crew, nor have I ever been. I am however ex flight deck (rotory).

Instead of jumping all over a member of the crew for "poking" an obnoxious passenger how about praising all cabin crew for doing an extremely thankless job in extremely trying conditions.

In all my travels with airlines I ALWAYS treat the cabin crew with respect and politeness, even the rare "snotty" ones. Passengers do not have the God-given right to be disrespectful or abusive to cabin crewmembers.

How do you know that the passenger was being obnoxious?

Please remember that, technically speaking, touching another person is an offence of assault.

I read the full article and unless the newspaper misquoted to law enforcement officer, the other pax interviewed gave the same explanation as the passenger.

I have seen an employee terminated for a very similar action to what is alleged to happen here.

Yes, CC deserve respect and support, but they should act professionally at all times.

I've been a PAX when someone got V. obnoxious with the cabin crew [he wasn't pi**ed, just one of life's a**holes]. After he was served lunch he started to complain loudly about everything. He took great delight in belittleing one particular girl [aged about 25] who was clearly gritting her teeth and kept smiling and being pleasant. This got him even more determined to break this girl's spirit. To my shame, I did nothing at the time.

Eventually, a guy got out of his seat, gently eased the girl down the isle a little and leant over the man. I couldn't hear what he said, but the a**shole didn't utter a squeak for the rest of the trip. As we got off, I handed my card to the girl and told her to contact me if there was any trouble from the 'pratt'. She smiled sweetly and told me that there was one on every flight.

Anyway, I got a call from the cabin crew personnel manager and we had a long conversation about the flight. I backed up the girl 100%. He then told me that the PAX next to Mr Obnoxious had told him that the 'Gent' who quietened down the man had threatened to 'rip his head off'. The pillock lodged an official complaint, which the personnel manager was investigating.

The pratt was subsequently banned from flying with B*, and, I believe, half a dozen other airlines [MAFIA rules, OK!].

I tell you what....and I have never had any issues with any member of a flight crew.......I don't care who it is, put your hands on my without provocation or justification and you will be on your arse. Guaranteed! :}

gee if every time a flight attendant was poked, prodded, pulled, pinched or grabbed was reported in the news there would be endless stories :*

Crew can't poke, prod, thump or otherwise "touch" customers for whatever reason - tempting though it may be! Sadly, that's really the end of the matter.

One of the joys of being Cabin Crew is that if you get stuck or lost in some way, while at work there are so many experts readily to hand. It turns out that all of our managers, most of our customers and many of our pilots are able to dispense useful advice as a minimum, and frequently to demonstrate how our jobs could have been done even better, especially some time after the event has concluded. I find this hugely reassuring.

Fortunately, that wealth of knowledge isn't just shared with cabin crew - I find it quite comforting that anything that I do wrong can be quickly corrected by the endless supply of experts only to willing to give you advice on how they would have done it after the fact! heheh

Oh well, I guess its the only way I'll learn! :p
