QF To MAM

Guys like a couple of others in the last week (QF shortlisters)-did anyone else get a call from QF HR in regards to casual positions being offered in January to be based in Perth through MAM? (looking for about 10 people). They then sent an email to you which you had to sign and fax back by the 3rd Dec.

I am just a bit confused as to the whole conversation. Were they actually offering us the job or ???????? The lady also said something about "in a couple of weeks"? Did she say she will call us back in a couple of weeks with more info or did she say if you haven't heard back in a couple of weeks forget about it or what? I was just in shock from actually getting a call from them that i now can't remember hardly anything from the conversation?

Those of you who got the call will know what i'm talking about, those who didn't, this probably just sounds a bit stupid!Sorry

Any info would be great!
thanks

I got a call about 3weeks ago. I was told the trainning will start on Nov 28th.....

I turn them down though....

Does this help??

Good luck!

ozskipper 6th Dec 2003 07:37

I haven't got a call, but from what I've heard from others is that if you sign the form, it allows you to go into ground school and fly as a casual with MAM.

Hope that helps.

Hi ozcabincrew, I to recieved the call last monday and sent my fax back by wed 3rd. As they probably told you they were calling most people on the shortlist from Perth. I was a bit concerned that once they passed our details onto MAM that it would take us of the QF shortlist, so I rang QF on wednesday and asked if we weren't offered a position with MAM would we stay on the QF shortlist and they said 'yes'.

I was very excited but also a bit worried about a casual position, I worked for flight force flying with Ansett based here in Perth and we didn't really work alot of hours.

But at the end of the day any offer is better than none at all, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Hi JG!

Thanks for your info. By the sound of it you got a lot more out of your conversation that what i did!

So is all we're waiting for now is just to hear back from QF or MAM offering us the position if we were successful? Why would they call every Perth shortlister to see if they're interested and then go through them again to choose the people they want? Seems like a lot of double handling to me? But then again, sometimes you wonder? Hopefully they'd already chosen the people they wanted and called them to confirm that they're interested and if not, go to the next person they want on the list?

Does anyone have any info on how QF do this from previous experiences? I wonder how many people are actually on the QF shortlist in Perth? So if they've transferred us to the MAM shortlist as well as the QF shortlist, then does that mean we're in competition with the MAM shortlisters as well for these "10" positions? Anyone who knows anything about this, please please help, this is so frustrating!!!!!!!!

We might just have to sit and wait, it's already been a week since they called and she did say only a couple of weeks until something happens? By the way, if you know what was going to happen "in a couple of weeks", please enlighten me. Was it a couple of weeks until they call us back with more info or if you haven't heard in a couple of weeks forget about it, please help

thanks again

Why dont you just call QF HR? Is that who called you in the first instance? If so, just give them a call, tell them you were contacted x number of days ago and you just wanted to clarify the conversation. They are nice enough people, just call them and you may find out more up to date information as well.

Cart_tart 9th Dec 2003 16:37

Don't think they called ALL PER shortlisters. I know a number of people on the shortlist (myself included) and no one got a call!

Flying_Sarah747 9th Dec 2003 17:36

I'd suggest calling QF HR. Unfortunately I can't give you much more info cause I told the lady I wasn't interested, but I'm positive she was calling to offer a position with MAM, not just a tranfer onto the MAM short list. Anyway, I've PMed you with more. :)

joni girl 9th Dec 2003 19:51

Hi again OZcabincrew,

If you you find out any info please let us know. Any news no matter how little is always good to hear. It's funny how after nearly 12 months on the shortlist I still jump on my mobile every time it rings, I'm sure you can relate to that...

Anyway heres hoping we hear something soon.

LOL

Jump! Do you know how often I've had to speak to people I've been trying to ignore because I don't recognise the number and don't want to miss the call - just in case!

Perth Base to Extend

Hi Guys

Heard that the MAM casual positions that we have been contacted about won't apparently be happening unless the Perth base extends because at the moment there isn't enough flying to warrant giving hours to casuals? Can anyone shed some light on this? Why would HR contact all of these people if they weren't expecting anything to happen at the start of 2004?

Any info would be great

yellow rocket 11th Dec 2003 03:46

Such a thing?

Is there such a thing as a PER Shortlist?

When I applied I recall being asked for a base preference on my application, I was assessed in PER, but when I was shortlisted there was no specific base shortlisting.

Should we assume that QF is contacting people (apparently) who are on the shortlist with addresses in PER?

Is that what's going on? Are they offering you a MAM role even, or just auditing their files to see who might be prepared to accept casual if the need arose in the future?

OZcabincrew 11th Dec 2003 23:36

MAM

Yellow Rocket

We are not assuming anything. This is why i have put these ideas and asked questions on this topic to find out any info other people got. We all got asked the same questions as you "do you have a base preference", but what we are referring to is all QF shortlisters who live in Perth, I'm sure there is no separate shortlist for Perth people. We are not assuming this because as per Joni_Girl's post, the lady from HR said they were calling all people on the shortlist who live in Perth, obviously this isn't so as per Cart_Tart's post, they know nine other people who are on the QF shortlist living in Perth and they didn't receive a call? We are all just trying to work out what they're doing? They probably are just auditing there info as to when the time arises would we be willing to work under MAM, some people are and some people aren't. I was just confused as the way the whole conversation went when they called me as the whole thing completely confusing, which is why i started this topic.

This is obviously I big issue for you, so I dont understand why you just wouldnt call HR to clarify the situation rather then rely on second and third hand information and get yourself all worked up when a simple phone call could answer your questions.

OZcabincrew 12th Dec 2003 14:26

GalleyHag

I'm not getting all worked up, just curious as to what other people had been told before i call HR. I didn't want to annoy HR straight away so I thought i'd see what everyone else had heard first. thank you.

Your posts indicate otherwise!!

I'm not getting into a heated discussion over this one! Your advice is appreciated and I will call HR, thanks again.

Advice

Not telling you who I am, you can draw your own conclusions on that score, just here to offer some friendly advice.

They offer you a position, MAM, permanent or otherwise, take it. Once you are in the system you have an advantage over those on the outside looking in.

QF want LOCALS for the PER base, it fits with the expectations of their corporate customers, without which the PER short haul base would not exist. Managements experience with opening the PER long haul base and recruiting people on the east coast for PER only to see them leave the minute they got their transfer back home was also an administrative headache.

The QF short haul base currently operates with east coast CSM's. This will change in the near future and those local crew who are appointed to those positions will be backfilled by MAM casuals!

To recap. They offer you a position, take it. Don't think you are going to remain on some QF shortlist for permanent employment straight off the street. The smart money knows it just aint going to happen.

vdd 15th Dec 2003 18:17

Interesting comments from PBR Streetgang.

So if the advice is to take what is offered (MAM, casual) what happens to the ppl on the shortlist who have declined MAM or casual positions? Are they going to be placed back on to the shortlist and for how long?

Strange times - hopefully things will look good in 2004! :ok:

PS: How many ppl are on the shortlist?

Flying_Sarah747 15th Dec 2003 20:14

I'm on the QF short list, from Perth and got a call from HR about the MAM casual position, but I turned it down cause I've been offered a cabin crew position with British Airways. We can only see what happens to us that have turned it down.

I was a bit confused with what she said, cause I asked if I'd still be on the short list if I turned down this MAM position, and she said yes, but before that I'm not sure, but I thought she said they weren't going to be keeping the short list past Feb 2004, when our time runs out, but then at the end of the call she goes they'll contact me in Feb, so I'm confused!
