Boac Comet 4 Pilots/Cabin Crew May 1964

I had the pleasure of travelling as a first class passenger on a BOAC comet G-APDD from Sydney to Aucland in May 1965. I still have he Junior Jet Logbook singed by a Capt. Creigh, the in flight magazine and the First Class Menu. The who crew were so polite and kind to me as a 12 yo boy. The cabin crew and flight deck crew were so kind. Can anybody tell what the correct name for the in fight cabin service was called. They carved the meat from the roast, served the vegetables with a fork and spoon all on fine china. I could tell the cabin crew were very dedicated to their service and it certainly left am I'm presission on me. What is the name of this type of service provided from a trolley.

Hi boaccomet4,

I am afraid I can't find the answer quickly.

However, you may find the following interesting:

I can tell you that I was trained to do just that back in BOAC days and 747's in those days had 27 First Class on most flights. It went something like this:

Cocktails and canapes
Lay up table using proper linen, fine china and cutlery (No tray lay ups)
Starters from the trolley followed by wines.
Soup Hot or cold depending which route from a soup terrine.
Carved joints from the gueridon to order or other entrees.
Follow up with vegetables served with spoon and fork.
Desert from the trolley.
Cheese from the trolley with port.
Fresh fruit from the trolley with finger bowls.
Coffee or tea with petit fours and liqueurs.

Packets of 5 B&H or Malboro were available in the lounge upstairs.

A good galley steward would think ahead ready for follow up courses.

Plenty of images and stories if you google BOAC.

And back then she held no rank but was probably more 'feared' than the Captain!
