Hi there,

I'm just after a bit of advice, please - I will soon be relocating for a new job at Heathrow T1...

Please could anyone give me some advice on some reasonably nice areas to live with good access to T1? I have been looking west of the airport along the M4 in places like Windsor, but they seem to be very expensive... I looked at places like Virginia Water in Surrey, but I hear the journey may be a bit of a headache on the M25 at rush hour.. :o(

I drive and have access to a staff car park, so it doesn't necessarily need good train links etc.

Many thanks for any advice/suggestions people can provide.

This part of London has the lot in terms of cost and quality - from cheapish but small flats in Slough, through to some mega-mansions in Gerrards Cross and Virginia Water.

The usual "location, location, location" (tv prog) questions arise.

What must you have, (both in terms of the physical property and its emotional impact on you), an what can you afford? (Don't post the answers on here!)

Some communities have a wide range of properties and prices. Look at Windsor, Maidenhead and High Wycombe, for instance.
Some folk decide to live a very long way away, from Devon to Switzerland, and even LA, but they are not in the 9 to 5 jobs.

More detail reqd: Single, married or in partnership or intending to be in next few years, kids, schools etc etc. Buckinghamshire has selective grammar schools if you like a gamble.
Buy or rent? If buy, price range.

Maidenhead, Windsor and HW have direct rail access to London. I'm not familiar with the areas to the south of LHR although we had a look when I was posted to LHR and thought, e.g., Camberley would be good in case of a posting to LGW which did eventually happen and then would have been easier for commuting than Marlow. Looked at Datchet right next to LHR but though a bit noisy with all those filthy flying machines around

We're in Marlow which is a bit expensive and we don't even have direct rail to London (Donkey to Maidenhead then change).

Assume a CC job as you posted here?

What will be your start times? Where is the staff car park?
Do not assume that you can zoom along on the motorways at peak times.
The M3 northbound to the M25 can have looong queues and the M25 can clog up.

beaconsfield, marlow, holtspur, loudwater, flackwell heath, bourne end, maidenhead (might be pushing it), wooburn green, farnham, seer green, gerrards cross, slough (if you must)

realistically anything in or around m40 junctions 1-4 or m4 j 5-8 would be sensible enough.

if you have the money then beaconsfield is a nice place to live, marlow is also really nice. starting to get homesick now.

then again dont envy you on property prices though!
