Juan

Thanks for that re the 1948 agreement, that was my understanding, and recollection as well.

Now, these reps who reportedly are off work due "stress"...........I wonder how many are actually suspended by their employer? Any thoughts?

And for those that aren't suspended hopefully EG300 will sort them out.

- it's a bit like the retired crew who are egging them on; they've got nothing to lose
I completely agree, I'm sick of the absolute drivel they post, it does nothing but stir the rest of us up, haven't these guys got a life?

There was a clear implication by Bill Francis in his most recent memo that Bassa had tried to integrate the reinstatement of all suspended crew into the Bassa proposal.

BA have said all along that disciplinaries will not be part of negotiations.

Rumour has it that some suspensions are very trivial ( and may well be ) but there are at least a couple which may result in criminal prosecution and are too serious to be overlooked.
And what about the victims of bullying and harrassment!! Should they be denied justice?

Bassa incited the crew to overstep the mark, and misunderstand that abuse, and b & h works both ways.

Of course the reps (some of whom haven't actually worked for months , or even years ) will be determined to keep their jobs at anyone's expense.

Legal action

A smart group of pro-work CC employees should sue Unite.

BA Share price up 6.20p at this time.

3 day strike from 20th and 4 days from 27th
Striking on Mon 29 and Tue 30 March would seem to impact on passengers booked to fly during the week preceding Easter [4 April]. That will garner additional public support, i'm sure

McLuskey later said "We've given the Easter period a clear run .." or words to that effect.

BA's press release

UNITE STRIKE DATES – BRITISH AIRWAYS STATEMENT

British Airways is extremely disappointed that Unite has announced plans for massive disruption for hundreds of thousands of our customers in the run-up to the Easter holidays.

Unite’s action has no shred of justification. British Airways’ crew are rightly renowned for their professionalism and skills. Our entire package for crew recognises that and is reasonable and fair.

British Airways is facing two years of record financial losses. Unlike other businesses, we have avoided compulsory redundancies and made changes designed to secure a long-term future for our company and our staff. Cabin crew face no pay cut or reduction in terms and conditions – and remain the best rewarded in the UK airline industry.

For months, Unite has been claiming that we breached individual crew members’ contracts by
making minor changes to onboard crew numbers on flights from Heathrow. We have always said this claim was false. Last month, the High Court ruled that the changes were valid and reasonable.

The changes save us more than £60m a year. We have made clear we would consider refinements of the changes, provided any additional cost was offset by other adjustments in the cabin crew budget.

To date all proposals put forward by Unite fall significantly short of saving £60m a year.

In addition, Unite’s plans would cut crew pay and allowances. The reductions required to generate sufficient savings would leave each crew member between £1,000 and £2,700 a year worse off. These proposals lack credibility, and Unite did not inform crew of them when it asked them to vote for a strike.

Should a strike take place, we will do everything we can to protect our customers’ travel plans as far as possible.

We plan to operate all British Airways’ flights from London City airport, including long-haul services to New York. From Gatwick, we plan to operate all long-haul services and about 50 per cent of short-haul. From Heathrow, we plan to operate a substantial part of our long-haul and short-haul schedule.

We are also in the process of obtaining seats on flights operated by other carriers to enable thousands of customers to fly to their chosen destinations.

We will aim to give more details four or five days before the strike is due to begin when we will announce our revised flying programme. (For further details, customers should visit ba.com or contact their travel agent.)

We will remain available for further talks with Unite at any time.

Now let's all watch the mass sick-out of Reps and senior militant crew. Ooh doctor I am feeling stressed.. Sign me off quick.

I hope we see LALA, Looney Len and the kitchen fitter out on the Picket line next week.

From the BA statement, they are not going to be handing BASSA a life-line by taking them to court again!

100% BA

CB

Question.. What's at the centre of BASSA?
Answer.. A$$ - couldn't be more fitting really!

I am very disappointed but not surprised at the press questions raised at McCluskey's morning announcement. Journalists so often reveal their own ignorance and lack of research and todays examples yet again underlined that fact.

So to all those CC who followed the Unite and BASSA leadership and voted for industrial action 'to put pressure on the company during negotiations' -what are you going to do now?

Consultation ballot

Unite will run by electronic means a consultative ballot on BA's latest proposal which Len McCluskey described as falling short of what Unite wants. The result will be known by the middle of next week.

If crew accept BA's proposal, then the strikes will be called off.

If BA go to court again, which is probably unlikely, they will do it after the strike has started. Given that we know once again of ballot irregularities (discussed a few pages ago), how a court would view them a second time remains unknown but it should give pause for thought to those who are thinking of going on strike. It is the individual's responsibility to make absolutely sure that this strike is entirely legal otherwise the consequences for those individuals don't bear thinking about.

Given the fact that the share price has gone up since the announcement (232p a few minutes ago), it would appear the City agree with you.

Well, it looks like they have a chance to save themselves by voting to either accept or reject the offer made by BA yesterday. McClueless says this will be done online, with result known by middle of next week. No details of the offer made public yet, but McClueless says unite is NOT recommending it to its members, but will "support" them whatever they decide .... that's a nice little get-out for unite.

So, 7482 brains will hopefully now, at long last, get into 1st gear. Although sadly, I suspect that a lot will decide based only on their desire to retain staff travel, not on the actual detail of the offer.

So the cabin crew will once again get to vote on whether to strike or not.
Only this time it really is to strike, not just to send Willie a message.

Who is not going to accept the company proposal? Apart from the few minority militants?

The majority of crew will vote to accept the BA proposal and then BASSA and UNITE can blame the crew for not being strong and letting themselves down.

Job done, get on with life. Hopefully with a load of union resignations.
