Both of your comments are unfair.
Why?
Because this thread was started before the rumours of FSMs being out of a job surfaced. Hence my comments of not wanting to look elsewhere like others are doing is perfectly in context. YOU just took it out.
Secondly, your little snipe at `earn what the rest of virgin earn' falls on deaf ears. I have over 15 years experience with this airline. I have worked my way up and seen it through the hard times, so I am perfectly entitled to that wage, my length of service and experience justify it I wont take back the the fact that I earn good money for what i do, my lifestyle is fab and NO-ONE holds a gun to my head telling me to do this job.

So if you want to have snipes about me being unemployed in twelve months, then I suggest you look at the other more relevent thread entitled `Virgin FSMs to be axed' and add your spitefel comments there. You will also find several threads by myself there, which have been added since the rumours surfaced.

Edited to say: Do I think the FSMs will be going? Yes. But that does not give you the right to put digs in because I love the job now. I still do love the job now and still have faith that there may be saving a grace. Do i still think I earn good money for what I do? Yes. Just a shame that it will be Virgin lovers like me going and not the negative ones

It's reading things on the the Skytrax airline quality website that make my heart sink:

http://http://www.airlinequality.com/Forum/vir_atl.htm

The majority of passenger comments on this site regarding Virgin are negative; most of the complaints are related to service and seat comfort etc, the latter of which I agree is out of our control!!

I just wonder how much you would love Virgin, if after 3 - 4 years of working for them ( and over 10 years of flying ) you were still a junior on a pathetic wage for working your butt off while someone else on the flight who basically does nothing is on virtually 3 times as much

So you think I joined and went straight to an FSM wage? I was a JNR too, I was a SNR, then a purser and then an IFS. I did my time in every rank i.e. over two years. I worked my way up earning not such a good wage in the lower ranks, but the thought that I may one day be earning something decent for the job I did, kept me going. Sure there are the lazy ones. Every job has it. But not all of us. I'm certainly not lazy and spend the majority of my time in Y gossiping the crew and nattering with the pax! The thought of losing everything that I have worked for terrifies me. I feel like I have landed on my feet with my job. I have to make sacrifices, like not seeing my children one Christmas, but yo take the good with the bad which is why I stay.
I stayed neutral during the last pay talks, first of all siding with the company then with the crew But I didnt take offence to SRB letter as some did.

Its plain and simple, if you dont like it THAT much then why stay? I do like it and thats why I'm staying. I just pray that they see sense and dont make me redundant, but in the meantime I'll be downloading application forms for other airlines.

Sign it - great comments.

Can't help but think (as one of the On-Board Managers) - if someone is down in Y for more than 3 years, then there is generally a reason for it.

I appreciate that - but my comment was directed more to the London bases - I understand that MAN has other issues regarding availability of promotion to other ranks.

When it comes to MAN, if you transfer there you know that your chances of promotion up there are VERY limited, unless you come back to LON.

As for FSM's I agree completely that they deserve their money, they have got to where they are for a reason, normally hard work. As for lazy ones, yes you do get the odd one, but I've just done a flight where one of the CC who has been here over 2 years, openly admits she doesn't want to work, and to be blunt does just under the minimum required.

I know plenty of crew who have got promoted quickly through hard work, and know certain people who have just been missed through general incompetence of their manager. But there are those who have been down the back 3-4 years , who were/are there through maybe spending too much time on the LGW Upper Deck and not actually being a team player!

I certainly look forward to getting my grey shirt!

I know I'll get shot down dor saying this, but....
If I was that unhappy at work then I would leave. If I thought I was being paid a pittance of a wage, treated unfairly with no hope of promotion and didnt like the company, thought my OBMs were all lazy then I would look for employemnt elsewhere. You could say I am `doing a SRB' by saying that, but why be unhappy in your place of work? Life is just too short

Sorry if this has already been said somewhere on pprune, every LGW/MAN aircraft are going to have a full refit, OK yes it's not till next year but they are all booked in hence the A340-300 which is coming from the middle-east to help cover this, remember it's not like booking your car in for a service you need large time scales to refit 747-400s. If I'm correct 5 million pounds per aircraft, so in theory that would have wiped away all profits for 2007 and no air-share for me and you.

If you look at people leaving Virgin it is no worse now than in years gone by, yes it does seem so but we now have 5000 crew which makes it seem worse, we still only have one training course per week which has been the same for years, OK yes sometimes we have two courses per week but that is when we were expanding, or when virgin had realized that the establishment figures they use where incorrect.

So things are no different now than in the past!!!

Grrr

Sign it.

I am guessing you didn't actually read or understand my post - I AM LEAVING!!!! as are at least another 6 crew that I am aware of in the next couple of weeks........
You may well be ok on you "fantastic " FSM wage but the rest of us are actually finding life on board a struggle and not just from a monetary perspective.
I am sick and tired of playing by the rules and being overridden by FSMs who so-called know best and give in to obnoxious and bullying passengers just for a quiet life blatantly flouting CAA and Virgin regulations. Now I'm no jobs worth but things should be done by the book if for nothing other than consistancy.
Also I am appalled that I find myself moving to another airline and taking a pay cut sothat I have more realistic prospects and am allowed to use the 10+ years of experience I have in the industry!!!!
In my experience Virgin want it all but are not prepared to pay or reward in other ways for this!
I have also worked my way up in this industry from temp jnr to Inflight manager and then on to SEP instructor so less of the high and mighty if you please......
Don't get too comfortable in your role - you are just a number as well and in this industry there ain't no such thing as loyalty - trust me....

Av8babe with respect to you and your vast airline experience, i wish that you would just remember when someone is worried about their job it's not ever helpful to point out that loyalty means nothing. I think it does. it means that you are still professional and customer focussed when things look uncertain. I hope that sign-it has a good outcome, she/he has a great outlook and I keep my fingers crossed xx

Thank you.

My opinion IS NOT `high and mighty' as you put it. I'ver never heard such nonsense. I simply pointed out that I shouldnt feel guilty for my wage whilst (as another poster put it) "the rest are on a pittance". I simply pointed out that I earned `a pittance' too and now I've worked my way up. Why does that wind you up so much? Why are you so incensed that I love my job and think that £2k plus per month is a good wage for the work that I do?

I wish you luck in your next airline, clearly the Managers and structure at Virgin are not your cup of tea.
