Rimmer, you need to check your information more carefully before reporting as fact. This is a rumour forum I know but I think you'll find that you are incorrect. Our information (from the Chief Exec) is that BMED do "own" the rights to all of their slot pairs at LHR. In common with other airlines, we have to use them, of course, otherwise they revert to an "unallocated" pool.

Further, we are told (and it makes perfect sense to me) that much of BMED's value as a going concern is the LHR slots together with the route consents etc which are not easy to obtain. Aircraft are commodities, they can be leased or ordered from a factory (albeit demand is strong at the moment and availability is not immediate, and a particular fit and finish comes at a price).

The bmi Group have taken over a company with a great, fun bunch of people who care about their work and who are very professional and supportive. We fly to some genuinely interesting places and we make the best of our life down route, when we have time. BMED is not for everyone but from skiing in Almaty, Teheran and Tblisi through to barbeques in hot and sunny Addis, our crew are great and we have a great time! Long may it continue..

hi guys!

i expect everything is still a bit up in the air over at BMed isnt it? well, i have just had an invitation through the post to an assesment day. they are holding them at the end of march, beginning of april. so BMed are obviously still recruiting crew...?

find it all very confusing, but i expect the merger/takeover with bmi will take a while to complete. but not sure i would want to be joining a company that is in the middle of this.

has anyone else recieved this letter through the post?

I know why , 40 Cabin Crew have given in there notice and this is inside info from a friend as most of the ex BMI staff are jumping ship to other Airlines , I wonder if you have to sign a BMI contract if you get the job .

If you do go for interview good luck !!

bmed assessment days

If 40 people have already given in the notice (they may be 50 by now), maybe positions offered will be for a 6 month temporary contract in a view to replace the ones leaving....... oh gosh, bmed will need 4 or 5 training courses before the summer!
I would still go to the interview to see what's on offer.
Good luck.

bmed assessment days

I wouldn't be too sure... everything is still up in the air.....
The end of the 6 months coincides with the takeover by bmi end of sept/oct. if courses are held in april and may.

Has anyone read the latest bmi press release re BMED integration into bmi. It's probably what most people expected.

I think G-MEDA is probably right about the possibility of 6 month contracts. I also think it's worth going to the assessment day to see what's on offer.

Does anyone have any idea of bmi's planned 'medium haul' expansion? Obviously acquiring BMED's routes are the start.

I was told that the contracts are BMED permanent ones and more information will be given at the interview. Of course this could have changed in the last week.

I used to be one of the original Bmed crew (have since left), I've been following this thread and it's a sad thing that's happening in terms of lost identity with the absorption into BMI.

I remember the really good old days and thank goodness I have my memories, photos and friends I've met along the way. To all those who still remain, good luck and I hope that everything works out for you.

Thanks, exmax...
We had it good at BMed for many years - excellent wage packets for not that much work and interesting destinations, but - as a friend of mine says - Change is the only constant...
Will see what the future brings. I am remaining positive .
For now.

Cabin Crew.

There is Vacancies for Cabin Crew :
http://www.aviationjobsearch.com/emp...78&vacID=68342

What a weird place to be if you had to join as crew for the summer your BMED crew then your BMI crew .

The other thing AJS ad states is that the crew are needed to fly our EUROPEAN and world routes. A sign of things to come perhaps.

Red face New Crew

Hello All

I'm new to this website so bear with me if I repeat anything that's already been said. I've always flown charter and tried a few times to get into BMED without any success. Anyway I stopped flying in 2004 but a few weeks ago it really hit how much I missed it, so sent my cv to BMED and got an invitation to one of their assessments days (29th April, if anyone else is going that date, I'd love to tag along with you). However I'm reading all these threads and it's worrying me, I'm based in the North East and the advantage of BMED was that I could stay here and commute, however if it's all going to become BMI it may be that I have to do short haul and relocate which is something I don't really want to do.

Does anyone know if this is likely to happen

Whats happening to BMED

Hey arewehomeyet, Actually, no one knowswhats gonna happen, not even the managers, gonna have to wait and see what the new cheifs want to do, at the moment, loads of crew are leaving BMED, and till October they'll still be needing crew. Im sure if you apply, your job would be safe. I'm assuming the people who put out the advert for crew thought it would be safe to say that you'd be flying world wide and European routes, because as I before mentioned........no body knows... Im hanging on, gonna wait and see what happens. We work with a great bunch of people, and I know lots who are staying. Im ignoring what every ones been saying will find out for my self. If I dont like whats happened after October, then I'll go elsewhere. But go to the open day and see what they have to say. you never know. Lets be positive +++
