njsboi

Thanks so much Njsboi...

Currently, I have got all my certificates like L2 First aid and RSA so just waiting for an invite to the VRD. Im in melbourne so just missed the big recruitment process and am waiting for the next lot of recruitment. Do you also know how often they recruit for GC? I also am working at Downtown Duty Free so i can get a small exposure to the airport working environment and loving the feeling. It so good to see that 100percent of the Virgin CC take so much pride in their uniform and appearance. The uniform is so modern and there isnt anything that i can see that is bad with Virgin LOL

So Njsboi i hope that we can keep in contact and i got much to learn from you... HOpe to see u in the near future maybe in the skys

cheers

Thumbs up Weeeee. Go Hostee.

Anyway, I was reading the VB post on cabincrew.com and most of the people who had their VRD's got reference checks and even medicals within two weeks of their VRD. I got a letter saying it is still being processed and that you will hear from us (VB) again in two weeks. It has now nearly been three weeks and nothing!!! I keep asking my references if they have heard anything and the answer is NO. Does anyone know why it takes so long to process??
I saw that thread too. Those girls were all very lucky, such quick responses by recruitment and the whole process didn't take them long.
I thought that if you got that e-mail, like you did FYD, that you could be waiting four weeks? Hang in there. You are in a far better position than most of us here, so keep thinking positively!

You have to remember not to compare too directly to other people's recruitment processes. For one it can take three days to be asked to a medical, another who ends up in the same GS group might take the full 14 days. It shouldn't be looked at so intently even though it's what we tend to do when we stress. Don't I know it!! Haha.

Anyway's. To the process in general.. The whole thing is so draining and emotionally taxing on so many. You just have to remain determined like those I have come across here. Don't give up. I still have to wait 9 months til I can even think of applying again for DJ but I will. I am counting down the days, trying to keep up to date with the company and my own skills and knowledge. I think the victory will taste even sweeter if it happens after a second attempt with the same company because I will appreciate it even more knowing how hard it was to be shut down. You can never stop learning about the ins and outs to the recruitment process and that's what will make you a better candidate over a beginner next year. That's what I keep telling myself.

ANYWAYYY enough depressive talk.

Congrats Hostee! I KNEW you would get through. I am so glad for you that you get to come home. That's awesome. Fill us all in on the details!

STF I hope everything's going well. You're nearly done! You'll be flying soon.

Hi People
I have read this thread and its good to see so many keen people looking to get into the airline industry and willing to wait so long to be offered a position
Just as a point of interest?

What are the terms and conditions for a flight attendant being offered at Virgin ?
What is the pay?
Is super on top?
Uniforms supplied or paid for?

I was wondering the same thing about super Bolty but nobody replied to that question. I would like to know that too. I'm pretty sure the uniform is paid for by VB and anything extra you want (extra shirts etc) you pay. I have no idea what the salary is - someone told me low 30's and another told me mid 50's, so really I have no idea sorry

I had a look at the EBA but it didn't mention whether super was including or excluding your salary

Virgin conditions

hey guys
from an ex VB CS ...jsut to let you know its great to see you all asking qustions about the conditions and the EBA -for those who dont know an Enterprise Barganing Agreement.
I cannot stress enough how important it is you all know this document back to front/sideways!!!
you will be enering VB at a time where change is in the air, but please be careful of what you are told from a company perspective...unfortunately from business perspective (and that is what most airlines are now focused on) KPI and KRA's ,that is figures and statson efficeny andgetting the upmost productivity from the crew are the most important thing...not always your well being..
it is a sad realtiy that most big companies are now heding this way,but from where you are standing your EBa is your chance to have a say and say no to any conditions that will affect your new lifefstyle...be informed and mature and dont believe everything you heat from the trainers and company staff..
they have had a HUGE turnover of late and a even BIGGER problem with fatigue and roster related issues in the past two years especially..the current EBA needs a massive overhaul as when it was voted in ..it was done so by largely uninformed and uneducated crew like yourselves...that is not your fault but it can changed if everyone a joins the FAAA (flight attendant union) that will inform you in a professional and intelligent and mature way) -they are there to help you negotiate in the best possible way working with the company to get to postive outcomes..however, you are all the voices and without you the FAAA has no chance ..so make sure you join.. as I have stated before it is all fully tax deductible ...
However as new crew do not
1. be afraid to ask qus and for no know tht current EBA well..if you are unsure ask your FAAA reps and other experienced crew who will happily tell you what to wth out for!
2.Keep up to date with the new EBA negotiations and read everything and think carefully before you sign anything ..you will not get in trouble for being an intelligent and mature minded individual ! you WILL benefit long term from the conditions you vote in..there are alot of rumours flying around so dont believe everthing you hear out there...
Talk to as many FAAA reps and other experienced crew as you can ! they will be wrapped you are asking ...remember they have often been around long enough to know the pitfalls and benefits of the system...
just look after yourselves and have a ball too! im not out to scare you but merely inform you of something that will help to make you a great f/a!
any questions dont hesitate to ask!

Thankgod. Its Over!

Hey guys!

Did you miss me??? I am so sorry that I haven't been online in a little while but I have been studying hard for today's huge final Emergency procedures exam. I PASSED IT!!! Even the practical assessment too!!! I am sooooo relieved that it is all over. Now we only have 8 days of training left, and I start flying on September 4. My first day is to Brisbane. YAY!!! Sunshine and pleasant weather at last.

Now for something I have neglected. The diary.

Virgin Blue Training. Week 4, Day 1. August 21, 2006. 9 days to go

The count down is on. I finish on Friday week. OMG Today was our pool day where we go down to the swimming pool (at the Qantas training facility) and go for a swim in their pool... with our life jackets on. First thing this morning we all gathered at the Virgin training centre and we had a bit of theory about survival in a life raft - and that was ok... and then we had lunch and we were expected to meet at the Qantas pool at 2pm. We all got changed into our bathers, shorts and tshirts and put on our life jackets and jumped into the pool. We had a go at dragging someone who was "unconscious" through the water (even though my unconscious person was giggling her head off ) and then we had to do some other activities like get into a life raft - easier said than done. Some people really struggled with the raft - one girl wasn't able to get in on her own - but was eventually dragged into the raft!

We were allowed to go home after the pool day - and everyone went home to hit the books and study after one hell of a day. Tomorrow is the big exam... Practical and Written.

Virgin Training School. Week 4, Day 2. Tuesday August 22nd. 2006 (8 days left)

What a day! PHEW! ITS OVER!!! - Today was our final exam for Standard and Emergency procedures. It was by far the most difficult we have had. I scored 97% on the exam - so you can imagine; how excited I was. The practical was a bit scary but I made it through. Everyone did well, and now for the next 1.5 weeks, we will be focusing on the service, and how to set up for doing the service... yada yada yada...

Sorry guys, I am cutting this short. Nothing apart from the exams happened today. I am just sooooooooo glad that its all over.

Hope everyone is well. If you have any questions, let me know. It is fun but stressful all at the same time. Can't wait to be out online.

Cheers!
STF

STF
Love the posts, very informative for people to understand that it's not all beer and skittles with the SEP training.
Just a tip.
There have been plenty of people who have, for some reasons and another, not made it out on line due to things they have done during the POST part of the course. You will still have to study and pass an exam at the end.
Don't take the foot off the gas just yet, it ain't over till the fat lady sings!!!!!
(STF I don't want you to think that I think you will take your foot off the gas, just a bit of a heads up as your posts and attitude have been great, wouldn't want to see all the hard work so far go to waste)

BHP, do I know you???

Hi guys!

Big Hairy Potatoes, have we met??? I am sure one of my SEP instructors has used the term "heads up"... and how do you know about POST imparticular??? You must be Virgin Crew... or even worse.... one of the EP instructors !!!!!! IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN??????!!!!!?????

I am fully aware that people have failed the POST course before, so, I did take notes in class today, and I have not slacked off at all! (Even though all I wanted to do was go home to bed...) I am still really trying my hardest to pass the exam on our final day but it is all good. I have done ok up until now...

But, as I have for the last 3.5 weeks of training been keeping you guys up to date with all the gossip from the classroom... I think I should continue with another diary entry. Here's today's...

Virgin Blue Training - Week 4, Day 3. Wednesday August 23, 2006 (7 days of training to go)

It feels like 80% of the pressure has been taken off my shoulders. I felt the ability to breathe a little easier today. Everyone was in a bit of a funny mood in class today - just lazing about... not much energy at all, but that's because we are all so stuffed from yesterday's big day !
Today, as BHP so correctly said, was the beginning of POST training. POST stands for Something Online Service Training. Don't ask me... I think for the first half an hour today I was a little brain dead. It's ok... someone today told me that they had gone to a clairvoyant who was able to see spirits... and she was surprised that the clairvoyant happened to be a medium... I asked them is that bad for a clairvoyant to be a size bigger than small???? (Never mind ) Moving right along...

We practiced on the carts today. We learnt the basics of serving drinks and food, and we learnt about the galley set ups and who goes on what trolley for service - all important stuff, but half of us wished that we just weren't there. I could tell by the looks on people's faces that all they wanted to do was go to bed. After lunch I got an attack of the sleepies too... I am glad to be going to bed relatively soon too.

Thats it really - oh, and at the end of the day the trainers gave us about 20 minutes to practice on our "wings night" presentation that we have to do for them. In other words, they expect us to put on a little performance whether it be a song or dance about our training school for the wings night. Ours should be fun - and as I am very aware that anyone could be reading these diary entries, I will not say what we are going to do... you guys are just going to have to wait for the pictures .

Tomorrow we are learning all about the OBT whatever that means, and I know that we have an hour to practice the safety demonstration... fun fun fun especially when you point out the wrong exits!!!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------I hope my diary entries cover all the stuff you guys want to know - if there is anything else, just pm me. BHP, please let me know who you are... you might just be pleasantly surprised as to who I am!!!

Until then y'all...

STF - Do I even need to write who this is???

Big Hairy Potatoes - Do you work for VB? If so, do you know how often they put training schools through? I know there is one in Sept and was wondering if there is going to be another one or two this year

pressure

NJS BOI!
you will still have plenty of pressure at the VB training school...they watch absolutely every move you make and your social interactions too (i.e too much or not enough!)

Then wait for the week from hell when you are falling over from tiredness from going out to the a/c to do drills every night till 3am...and study for exams! ooohhh yeah! it's fun ..but you will get there...!

it's allworth it in the end but dont be too hard on yourself during training - it's a tough gig for 5 weeks!

It looks like they are waiting until another training school is available (well I hope). I had a heart attack when I saw the email ( I have been checking a million times a day). I scanned it in 1 sec to see a thanks but no thanks - but it was all good
