How many of you ENJOY your job?

After reading lots of posts this evening on Pprune, a good amount negative, it makes me wonder if anyone actually enjoys working for the airlines

After reading about the bad pay, hours, life etc etc, why do you still do it?

Monarch or GB airways postings seem rather negative.

Which airline would you prefer to fly with and why?

I'm personally trying to weigh up the good from the bad, and it's really difficult seeing a good amount (from what I've seen this evening) is purely negative, should I really get a job as cabin crew?

It seems that most airlines have a good amount of negative feedback, and I know that no company is perfect, or are there? :P ...

Enlighten my day, throw me some positive feedback on cabin crew with certain airlines , and lets make this posting a positive one!

The Job

I enjoy my job,the customer service, the shift work, the different crews, the challenges..all make it extremely challenging and character building. The airline I work prevents me from doing an exceptional job which at times is frustrating. But hey I do the best I can with what's available.

I must agree with you regarding a lot of negative feedback regarding working for various airlines, on the other hand if you are wanting to start a career as cabin crew...there is a lot of positive feedback too!

How many jobs do you get to do nowadays where you can meet a few hundred people a day, travel all over the globe, even if it is for a short layover.....you can still go shopping, eat the local food, taste the local beer, that is a small part of it, you also get to work with different people everyday, a lot of crew I know see this type of job as a life style.....not just a job, it is a hard life style to replace if you have been doing it for a while.....and have enjoyed it!

I started my flying career working for BMI 10 years ago, based in LHR, great company to work for, people were friendly...layovers were short but fun...days off together ect....the only downside of the job was defrosting the car at 4am in the morning so I could get to the airport in time to report for duty....I have many fond memories of the place, I then went on to fly for Emirates based in Dubai for a few years.....has been one of the best experiences I have ever had.....I would definitley recommend this company to anyone who is interested in living and working over seas.....there are so many positive things about many companies....although if you don't enjoy your job or listen too much to others that don't.....a lot of these factors get over looked and we tend to concentrate on the downside of the job.....when there is no need to as you end up missing out on the best part of the job! I have since moved from Dubai and am still flying for another company......and aren't I just a 'happy to be alive bunny' I love that too!

If you are interested in a career as cabin crew, go for it.......I can tell you now it is one of the best things I have ever done!

Good luck.....

Think theres a bit of "Galley FM" syndrome going on....meaning in a job where we work with different people every day the only thing we have in common is to moan "...oh my god guess what crewing did to me.." "did u hear about so n so getting long haul...so unfair"!!!! Guess we all just brought it home and posted it for the world to read!!!

For every 1 thing I could moan at theres 100 FAB things I could point out! Its just not as fun!!!!!

Pashy, cheers for the feedback, enjoyed the read.

After looking at the number of people who've viewed this topic so far i.e. 205, and the number of replies (3), I get the impression that it speaks for itself.

BUT how many CC/Pilots use Pprune, quite possibly only a small majority i.e. 1-2% of the work force.

Saying that I was told during my training that you’d find more negative stuff on Pprune than positive.

Anyone else who enjoys his or her job?

Being crew must be one of the best jobs around. Over the past 5 and a half years I've met some great eternal friends and had fantastic times. Yes it does have its downfalls. However, I wouldn't do anyhting else.

Crew do moan but the majority do enjoy it really. Most of my peers are 9-5 and are always asking me about my job and telling me they would love to do it. Flying over the world, europe and UK isn't a job; It's a FAB lifestyle.

Enjoy xxx

I have worked for QF for a few years now and absoultly love my job. I wouldn't give it up for the world. I think QF is one of the best airlines, the best part is the fantastic people I work with and of course the nice pay that goes with it .

I've flown for about 5 years or so doing both charter and scheduled and still enjoy flying. I do have my days when I moan but so does everyone in any type of job.

As Polly said, It's definately a lifestyle. I don't mind working weekends as I then get my days off in the week when shops are quieter. I don't enjoy getting up at 4am but I'm usually home by midday. I've made some fab friends, some of which are now working longhaul and get to go on their trips for next to nothing. I've seen most of Europe by way of nightstops. One of my fave cities is Copenhagen.

It's certainly not glamourous I've had some pretty awful days, been thrown up on once !!! Once is enough thanks !

Had some great laughs with some great crew. Wouldn't do anything else. The thought of doing Mon-Fri 9 to 5 just doesn't appeal in the slightest.

It's a good point to note. Whatever job you are in people will whinge about how bad it is. You can bet your life that most of the whingers are Brits. And yes I am a Brit. Whinging poms the aussies call us and it's true. I lived abroad for 9 years and had an amazing time living a great lifestyle partying, going to the beach, diving, sunbathing, shagging and generally making the most of my life - but it never ceased to amaze me that people doing the same job as me (I worked in casinos) whinged all the time about anything they could think about.

If you don't like it, then get another job and stop moaning! I think McDonalds are recruiting.

why do you need other people's opinion on whether to apply or not? Don't you have a brain of you're own to think with? .

It's a good job, not flower and roses though, we all have our s*** days, like any other job/career.

If you really wanted this job, you wouldn't make up you're mind after reading a few posts, from like 1% of the cabin crew population. sad

With my mind fixed on becoming a pilot since a young age and then being in the position I'm in now, forcing myself for a career change, it's not that easy, especially when reading negative posts, and I know it's not a bed of roses.

There are many reasons why I decided to go for this job instead of a job on the ground, or in an office, as they're not what I want to do.

Life isn't always as simple as one wants, and you have to make changes, as I'm finding out now.

Spike001,

I m in the same situation you are! Always wanted to be a Pilot. I have just been accepted to Qantas as a casual flight attendant. So I guess the money I earn will go towards my flying lessons!

Its a good way to get started!

Yeah very true, the nearest thing to being in the front, at least your travelling about still and gaining valuable experience with the life style and training.

If someone from a young age always wanted to become a Steward/Stewardess, then yeah, they'd just go ahead and apply and not read into these forums. It's different for me and others.

My apologies, I understand what you mean, cabin crew is a great job, but at the end of the day, the job itself is hard work, and going into the flight deck and seeing the pilots do the job of you're dream with their feet up, just watching the view, I have seen this on a few occasions might make you ,

Go for it and see for yourself.

In the end, different strokes for different folks, you may well like flying but will you like clearing in?, going up and down an aisle with a coffee/tea pot?, dealing with irate pax, It's all hard work, and I have heard pilots in my last airline, ask ''how we do it''?

Malachy8985, thanks for understanding.

In the end, different strokes for different folks, you may well like flying but will you like clearing in?, going up and down an aisle with a coffee/tea pot?, dealing with irate pax, It's all hard work, and I have heard pilots in my last airline, ask ''how we do it''?

Having had experience in this recently with many people, I think if your doing something in an environment that you want to work in, with similar minded individuals, what ever it is, gaining confidence, meeting new people daily, experiencing new challenges everyday and travelling to many places, it would be much more enjoyable than sitting at a desk on the phone all day (not my cup of tea! hehe)

I haven't worked in an office so far, but rather outside (and looking up at the sky wishing I was there lol), burning off my energy and keeping fit

Cheers
