final interview today.

sheesh, dont know what happened to me, but i wasnt able to make any jokes during it, i figured if i keep them laughing, they might overlook everything else.

on the plus side, i did waaaay better than last time. answered all the questions decently i hope, and hopefully good eye contact and body language. but i was mostly serious which sucked, and even a few other interviewees that i met with downstairs also said that i gave the impression that i was always very serious... WTF!??! could my humour be that dry?!?

on the bad news side, i hadnt had my forms filled out properlly, and they didnt ask me to fix them! haha i wonder if they had already decided that i wasnt worth the effort. oh well, i still think i didnt do to bad, but everyone else said their interview was awesome, both recruiters were laughing the whole time!

i would love to be able to do it over, and completely ace it, but i think i still put in a competent effort, though i didnt stand out as much as i would of liked.

i took two sickies at work this week because of this job! hahah i'd better get it!

recruitment process

Hey I am from melbourne and unfortunately couldnt attend the melb open day early feb. I am considering going to Bne for the interview early march. Does anyone know if the open day is immediately followed by the group session, next day which is immediately followed by the panel interview next day?

The reason is because I am taking annual leave from work and I need to know how long I need to be in bne to attend all the interviews if I am successful.

any feedback would be kindly appreciated

michael

good luck michael,
open days can be a pain.
no one else is talking so i'll have a stab at it.

best case scenario would take you 3 days, providing they only pick enough people for 1 group day as sometimes they have 2
then in the usual 3 days of interviews, you can try and pick your spot, providing someone doesnt grab it first. just tell them you came from melbourne, or possibly, threaten them with a knife or some sort of armlock

worst case scenario, well, 2nd worst one, due to the fact the worst one would be not making it past the open day. would be 7 days? if you include open day, 2 day group, and 4 days of interviews and you get stuck on the last day. though the chances of this happening are slim to none.

anyway, back to my point, 3-5 days would be fine. but most likely just 3-4 maybe good to have an extra day handy? go site seeing? the beach? look for romance? something like that.

hope it helps.

Photo Requirements Notes

Hi
Thanks for your responses!! As I am travelling from Melbourne to Brisbane for the open day and hopefully interviews... I need to get some portrait photos done! Does anyone know what kind of pose Emirates are after? I heard they give out notes on the open day but I will need to have mine already done this week ready to take up with me.

Please help!! Thanks,

Michael

Emirates Photos

Micheal...

EK want a head and shoulders shot and a full length shot.

Smiling in the photos is a good idea... but nothing too cheesy, just a nice natural smile.

Don't have TOO funky a hairstyle.. ie No mohawkes and don't use HEAPS of gel/product.

When you get here and you have your grooming 'training', the grooming officers will also tell you that.

Best of luck for your open day.

what about the way you stand in the photo, back drop, whree u position your hands, one foot forward? etc etc? I heard they are very specific about how to position yourself in the professional photo

any help?

I'd also love to have some advice about the photos.

I have the head and shoulders shot sorted - fortunately came out really lovely - phew. But am unsure what to wear for the full-length shots. Is it mandatory to wear a skirt suit in the full-length shot or will I get away with a professional pants suit?

Also, on the open day, am I better to go for a pants suit or skirt suit?

I look forward to your responses ...

Thanks in advance

In the email they sent to me they said that girls should be wearing a skirt suit...
DRESS CODE
Business Attire :
Ladies - Knee length skirt / dress with skin coloured stockings.
Men - Suit & Tie

I went for a black suit, knee length skirt, and I got to the finnals....

Wish you all luck!!!

EK Photos

I thin kalso they need to see your hands... so just clasp them in front of you... most pics I've seen people have their hands flat, one in the other... if that makes sense... also one foot slightly forward makes you look trimmer... or so a prof. photog told me once....!

Anyone attending the open day in Toronto on March 8? Has anyone attend a previous recruitment event in Toronto? Any feedback is welcome...

Thanks!

Weighty matters

Hey there
I am new to this forum and attending the Ek day on 4th March in Brissie. It's so reassuring to know that there is a forum where you can get lost in other people's experiences.

It does unfortunately sound like this is a very random process. I have prepared by thinking about Emirates and the questions I might be asked. I have a skirt suit and am going to get my piccies taken.

The one thing I did want to know is whether they measure your weight as well as your reach. I have a friend who worked for EK 6 years ago and said they were grounded if they were deemed too big. I am 175cm and 73kg and am a little bit nervous about this....

I also wanted to know about this 'survey'. What type of questions do they ask ?

Cheers

the survey is nothing to worry about, just asks you to list the order of how you rate emirates advertising, and your favourite websites and that sort of stuffs. people thought so much of it, cause they couldnt believe that they had been judged on thier first impression.

I can not seriously stress that enough. FIRST IMPRESSIONS people. make sure everything is done perfectly. doesnt matter if your ugly or brad pitts cuter little brother (or female equiv thereof) you need to be presentable, no wrinkly shirts, no nasty ties or hideous scarves, dont dress like a flight attendant (every time i go, i see less and less people make it through that dress like crew).

be happy to be there, as soon as you get there, make as many friends as you can, you'll be in there a long time hopefully so you dont want it boring. find a group of people, or look for the randoms that are to shy to talk to anyone and starting yapping away. it will take the edge off, and make it easier for you in the group interviews.

you may see people with scowls on thier faces, or really b!!tchy looks or just plain giving you dirties, dont worry bout these 'tards, they just think they have to compete with you on that day, when in fact they got no idea whats going on. unlike the people reading this topic. I advise people to go back and read from the start if your still curious, as many peoples have posted some great stuff, specially skysista. even go talk to the people looking angry, they might lighten up.

This seriously is the key to surviving an emirates open day. look immaculate (once again, looks dont matter, do the best with what you got, and be proud and confident that you have it, and that your going to tackle the EK challenge :P ) and make as many friends as you can, not only will this help you relax and have a bit of a laugh, it will also help with the group dymanics if you make it to the next day, as you wont feel so intimidated by talking with strangers, as you should know everyone there by then.

hope it makes sense. still waiting for a hopeful phone call. and i was a bit suprised that out of 5 people i talked to about their final interview, not one of them was asked a question about the airline itself! go figure :P

That is awesome!!!!!!

lets hope i can get lucky too

though i think they may of called me on monday night, but i missed the call.
it came up 'private number', Yet the same night, 4 other people i met at the interview, all got a similar call! all from EK all positive
though i think a few of them need to be in dubai on the 9th of march, which is little quick for my liking...

not sure if i should wait for a hopefull re-call. or just ring the office and start harrassing them

i'll give it a few more days...

but jani, congrats, your living the dream, well the dream of getting through the open day :P

see you over there maybe
