Thankyou so much for the info...Is there another interview involved after the assessment day or is it all done in one day?

nope its only one assesment day.
if you are succesful they will contact you within 5 working days (either with a call or a letter), if you agree you will be sent 7 books called '7 steps to excellence' where you will learn the basic of the job and have to fill out the exercises.
you will have to pass a 5 year criminal record check
have all your references in order
and then you will be offered a position (sign the contract) and you go on to the next stage which is a 6 week training program (you must be very positive about it since they will fire you if you do not pass the exams.) and that about it...after your initial 6 months probiationary period you will earn your wings and have access to the ba staff concessions! (probably the best in the industry)!!

I think you'd have to be REALLY bad to actually get fired, even then, I think that expression is a bit harsh. BA trainers are very supportive as should be your colleagues, who both in turn, assist you in passing all the necessary exams to allow you to fly. I think it's fair to say that if one lags behind a little bit, every effort would be made to get you through the course.

Also consider the needs of those people with 'special needs' which BA now use this term for disabled pax. During the group discuss make your talk count but do not be to assertive and overbearing. If you see that someone is not being included try to bring them into the discuss.

Really? If you've worked for other carriers, you'll know that BA's staff travel program really isn't the best in the industry and is somewhat lacking. I used to work for American Airlines, and I can honestly say, AA's staff travel concessions really are the best in the industry (IMHO, of course).

However, apart from that, after 6 months at BA, I've found them to be a great company to work for, with a fab bunch of very professional guys and girls, both on the ground and in the air. Come join us, you'll love us, honest!

waiting list for ba

Hi Guys, hope you are all well!

I went for my ba interview on monday for cabin crew lhr, i found the interview quite tough, and when i left, i didn't have a good gut feeling about it.

This morning, they sent me an e-mail to say that i had been successful. i'm over the moon, and can't wait to start, the only problem now is that they don't have a start date for me.

Does anyone know how long the waiting list is? If anyone could let me know, i would be really grateful!

Don't worry, they will soon call you with a start date. And if they don't within a monbth (very unlikely) you can call them. I guess you have the recruiting office number. It's on the site.

Heathrow

Hi and well done!!

Well for Heathrow there is genrally a 3 month waiting list. I got offered the job, then heard nothing for one month, then they rang me with a start date for 2 months time. My interview was in March and I start June 20th.

Don't worry if you dont hear anything for a few weeks. this is perfectly normal and many others have experienced exactly the same!

Grrr BA interview...not successful

hi...just got home after attending the BA assessment for LHR shorthaul.
I was so happy to take part in the assessment, many examples to give for 2-2-1 interview in my mind and very relaxed atmosphere throughout the day.
2-2-1 interview was actually tough, many questions and very in-depth. I did this part quite well, I was prepared, and all the examples were actual and complete (problem, coping, outcome), and even the "inevitable question" about company future challenges was answered without falling down from the chair asking for my last wish.
Both assessors shacked hands and smiled in the end. I was very happy, however, worn out.

After a quick break, I was about to experience
my greatest fear realized: THE GROUP INTERVIEW!

Because English is not my first language and because I had arrived in London the night before, it turned out to be a discussion with a non-speaking-actor who followed the discussion contemplating the other candidate: an extra!

I said a few things trying to be practical and pretending I had followed the discussion deeply. I guess it was more or like when you are asked “what’s the time” and you reply “it’s Monday”.

We all interacted well in the end and we finished the task, thanks to another candidate who involved me in the discussion!

oh well......yes...
...the e-mail arrived quite early: "We have now had the opportunity to discuss your application, but very much
regret, after careful consideration, we have decided not to offer you this
particular position….."

I realize now that if I had spent a month in the UK speaking and listening every-day, I would have had, may be, more chances to get it…UGH!

Now I got an invitation for Virgin…. Don’t think so! Need to go back to english school again!

Chin up old boy, I flew LHR/MAD last week and there wasn't a 'natural' English accent on the flight! In fact it was like flying with some Italian/Spanish/French airline where many words were so badly pronounced that passengers were sniggering with embarrasment and amusement.

I then flew on IB back where all the crew were Spanish and it sounded as the Spanish national carrier crew should! Spanish!!!

When was the last time a BA flight had a true Brit crew

Hard look simon.

DarkStar, Were probably gonna get totally attacked here, but i completely agree with you.

Previous airline i worked for (British Airline) approx 20% of the crew were British, I did'nt have a problem with this, but it did get painfully embarassing when landing in Edinbrough and the purser said over the p.a.... welcome twos edibor... hmm

Perhaps no British people want to be crew, yes, that must be the reason?????

Anyway, back to the topic

Simon - good luck with the Virgin interview. I believe that if you really want to work for an airline, try to get some useful tips from people that have been through the experience and don't give up.

It took me 3goes and I managed to get in. Perserverance goes a long way.

My main concern is that it's been scientifically proved that in an emergency situation all people revert to their Mother tongue , I mean its bad enough when you hear a pidgeon English announcement about Duty Free sales passing thru the cabin blah blah...so imagine an evacuation, or emergency landing etc etc

BA Internal Staff Transfer To Crew

Just wanted to know if what I heard the other day at work was true. If you transfer to crew internally within BA, after a year on shorthaul, you can go onto longhaul ? Anyone that knows, that would be great. If you dont want to reply on here, please feel free to PM me. Cheers guys

You weren't given accurate information.

You won't ever transfer automatically to WW after a year on EF if you are internal or otherwise - you have to be on a transfer list first. There are two kinds of these fleet transfer lists: The Opportunities and Choice Framework and a Volunteer List. The Opportunties and Choice Framework is a list that runs once every two years. You can put your name down to change base and/or fleet and all moves are done in strict seniority order within grade. BUT to qualify for this list you have to have completed two full years as cabin crew at a mainline (excluding EF LGW) base. However, for a Voulnteer List you can put your name down (if the bid-window for one is open) to change base and/or fleet regardless of length of service - but, as in The Opportunities and Choice Framework, all moves under this list will also be done in strict seniority order.

BA BOI is right you wont get WW after a year unless off a Volunteer List and at the moment its taken seemingly 3-5 years to get into WW LHR which includes the base closure of WW LGW. Hope that helps.

Dont be disheartened,I also attended the intreviews this week ,english is my first language and I found the process especially the 2 on 1 interview very difficult...Luckily I made it through.Do give it another go,many applicants at my seminar had applied previously.
