NJS/QantasLink ground school
 
Hey all , new to this , but I am starting ground school training as a flight attendant for NJS/QantasLink on the 14th Feb in Melbourne.

im wondering what the training is like ?
I am aware it’s probably pretty intense but do you get help and another chance if you don’t do well in something or is it your out goodbye ?

I’m sure I’ll be fine I’m just nervous lol

Hi Jaskuc,
Congratulations, you will have a memorable time in ground school.
This reply is based on 'pre-covid' so not sure what it's like these days but I'm sure all the core concepts are the same.
I cant guarantee 100% accuracy but it is a pretty good guide.

Don't panic or stress too much, easier said than done but we are all human so it is normal plus the trainers are there to assist you not to fail you.
Use them to your advantage and ask questions if you are unsure.

Have a good time in ground school,

TOPICS
SOP - Standard operating procedures - Duties and tasks of cabin crew on daily basis. Preflight preparation, arming doors, disarming doors, briefings, preparing cabin for landing etc..
EPs - Emergency procedures - Handling emergency situations. Land drill, ditching drill, smoke removal procedures, fire fighting procedures, evacuation, evacuation preparations etc...
Emergency equipment - Essential equipment on board. Medical equipment, ditching equipment, fire fighting equipment etc...
Aviation medicine - Handling / recognising medical situations. Hypoxia, decompression sickness, crew incapacitation etc...
Human factors - Teamwork, situation awareness etc...
Security - Handling security situations on board
Service - Service standards



EXAMINATIONS
SOP - 80% or more - written examination, a mixture of multiple choices
EPs - Drills, commands 100%, others 80% or more - practical as well as written, a mixture of multiple choices
Emergency equipment - 80% or more - written and practical, a mixture of multiple choices (practical demonstration 100%)
Aviation medicine - 80% or more - written
Dangerous goods - class participation
Human factors - class participation
Service - class participation



CHECK TO LINE - after inflight training
After ground school, you will be trained in actual flights by your inflight trainer for a few weeks.
You will need to do what is called a 'check to line' after you have completed your training with your trainer.
It is basically to demonstrate to your checker (who is a different person from your trainer) that you are ready and capable.


FAILING
1st time = The trainee will be given extra coaching and discuss their areas of concern. A second resit will be arranged.
2nd time =Removed from the role and not allowed to apply for the position for another 12 months.
