Hi guys, it has been 2 months since my assessment day on Jan 12. I have not heard a thing. They did call my references, but that was over a fortnight ago.....is it safe to assume that I have been unsuccessful?? :(

Thanks

Sydneysider88 14th Feb 2012 05:44

They would email you either way at any stage of the process id gather. No news is good news :)

Funnily enough I just got an invite to their AD, they've got 3 coming up in a couple weeks, don't think I'll bother going though.

JacintaMerri 14th Feb 2012 07:22

try to get in contact - just in case something's happened...the Jan 12 group have already started....but there's a second GS starting for Jan 12'ers at the start of March.

JacintaMerri 14th Feb 2012 07:23

Sydneysider - why wont you go?

Sydneysider88 14th Feb 2012 07:34

I am in the process with 2 other airlines, and truly only want the job with one of them, as everyone I know loves to work for them and it is Full time etc. Jetstar would not be something I would be after in the long run, and don't want to waste their time or take up a slot at the AD for that reason.

I'm on the fence about it, but don't think I will go, don't know what to do. I guess it can't hurt to be in the process, but shall see, I guess it is a back up plan.

:hmm:

upcoming AD's

Hey guys,

Are these upcoming AD's for fulltime mainline or casual with Altara?
Also are any of these in Sydney?

Cheers

Sydneysider88 14th Feb 2012 10:05

ADs coming up in syd are for Altara casual.

JacintaMerri 14th Feb 2012 18:49

Casual but you work full-time hours. Silly...I know.
I'm in GS now with Altara

Sydneysider88 14th Feb 2012 22:43

Are you guaranteed hours or days though jacintamerri? How much is pay for GS.
What base you at?
Cheers.

JacintaMerri 15th Feb 2012 06:09

Yep! Garunteed hours. At the moment everyone's working full time hours because there's so much growth within the industry.

We have to pick AT LEAST 15 days p/m to work and the rest is optional.

GS is only 18 working days (over 3 weeks)- so we're not paid a weekly sum ...but we get $1000 at the completion of the course

I'm actually considered whether or not to jump to Qantas - I actually have more opportunities with Jetstar. But Qantas is, you know...Qantas. :ugh:

Hope89 17th Feb 2012 04:57

Hey guys I GOT THE GOLDEN CALL JUST THEN!! I start in may :) Never expected it in a million years. So happy!

syd16R 17th Feb 2012 06:09

Whats the pay like with JQ?
Do they have G/Schools often in Sydney?

JacintaMerri 17th Feb 2012 07:12

$35 p/h flying pay and $22 for standby.

There's heaps of GS's in Sydney - but you only do 1 week in Sydney then you come to Melbourne for the rest.

syd16R 17th Feb 2012 07:29

Thanks for that. What sort of flying shifts do you do?

JacintaMerri 17th Feb 2012 07:39

I'm not in the sky yet - I'm in GS still :)

We'll be working F/T hours. We can pick High or low amount of hours and if we want to early or late starts (or a mix of both) and the days we'd like to work and days we'd like off. If we want to do overnights, etc...We do this every month. We can trade and bid for flights.

It's a lot more flexible than other airlines(what i know of) and a lot more opportunities.
We can move to being directly employed by Jetstar in 6 months, domestic Cabin Manager in 12 months and on international in about the same amount of time.

I've decided to stay with Jetstar (I was offered a position with Qantas)

syd16R 17th Feb 2012 07:43

Ok, so you still do overnights? Thats good
Do you know how different the JQ assesment day is to the Virgin Day?

JacintaMerri 17th Feb 2012 07:47

Yep. We choose whether we want to do overnights or not.

I havent been to a Virgin Assessment day! We have Virgin FA's doing their EP's at my GS now and they seem to be a bit slack with their drills which is worrisome...but their uniform looks great!

The Jetstar ones are pretty good too ;)

syd16R 17th Feb 2012 08:01

Thanks for that info? So what other things can you tell me about it :-)

JacintaMerri 17th Feb 2012 23:52

You get paid commission on anything you sell on board. (All food, drinks, entertainment, etc is buy-on-board)
The average commission earnings per month is around $500.

You get 3 uniforms to start with...if you're a girl you get a choice of - dress, skirt + top or pants + top. You can mix and match and the tops are short or 3/4 sleeve.
I got two skirts and one pant - two short sleeve tops and one 3/4.
Plus - two orange blazers, a belt, a winter coat and a suitcase.

Not many people get the dress - it has a really strange fit.

Guys - 3X shirts + pants, a black jacket/blazer, a winter coat, a belt, suitcase ....that's it, i think. I think there's a long and short sleeve choice as well.

Obviously, you get paid while on overnights + allowances which all gets added to the following pay.

The only negative that i've found is that in the ground school - you will have people who aren't passionate about the job and they applied because "they had nothing else to do" but i personally believe that those people won't handle the job well and will drop out within the first few months.
....I guess that's the same with every airline though!

And you'll need to have money saved up before ground school or be willing to use a credit card for a month or so.
