HHN Ryanair base

Hi everybody!
I will start working for ryanair at the end of march in Frankufurt Hahn...I'm really worried, there is really nothing there the nearest city is Frankfurt that is about 2 hours from Hahn.
Does anybody know how is living there?

Thanks

Romina

That's correct what you have heard. Hahn is in the middle of nowhere. It is surrounded by a lot of small pretty villages but thats it. The city of Frankfurt is quite a distance away and you would need a car to get there or use the Ryanair bus. Frankfurt is not very nice either.

Is boring as hell, specially if you like big cities and going out to shopping, drinking, etc. Nice surroundings though. I hope you are lucky and find some nice people there... or it's going to be a very looong time waiting for something to happen. A car is a must too.

I was living there for six months and you shouldn't worry too much about the accommodation, there is a whole industry of locals providing services to the ryr crew, you will find lots of ads about room/house for rent and more things, the key for success is as always, ask to everybody you'll meet there and read every ad you see in a bar, shop, supermarket, etc. For the car, well, I met some people that bought a second hand car just to move from the place where they live to the airport, supermarket, etc, so it was something old but cheap, also lot of people drove their cars from their own country, maybe it takes you a couple of days driving, but it is worth it. It's not difficult to arrange everything you need to live there in a couple of weeks, but the best thing to do is going there and see the thing by yourself, I don't know if RYR still offers the "military building" as a place to live, back in the day, you could rent the room for one month, and use that time to find/bring your car, a house, meet your workmates and gather useful information, etc. ------ It's been a long time for me since I was living there, so maybe my tips are no longer useful, but I cannot stress enough the fact that you work on your social circles a lot, because there is nothing else to do than hanging around with the people.

You could look at accomodation in Luxembourg or Trier if you are looking for more life and don't mind a short(ish) commute.
1.5 hours max Lux to HHN, 1 hour max Trier to HHN. Lux to HHN is normally just over the hour mark.

I hope I'll find my way there!Anyway I don't speak any german :uhoh:
Do you think it can be a problem???

I´m working in HHN, though not employed by RYR, and living in a nearby village. Accomodation is not a problem. Many cabin crew live in Lautzenhausen, which is just a few minutes walking distance from the terminal.
As it was mentionewd before, you´d better bring your car (You can make it in a one day drive if you really go for it, or make a stopover in northern Italy or Switzerland for one night. I know one male cabin crew member, who regularly drove his old Landrover from Portugal to HHN), since then you´ll have a much wider choice for accomodation (e.g. along the Moselle valley) and shopping. E.g. I live about 25 km away, which takes me about 20 minutes to drive.
I wouldn´t recommend moving to LUX or Trier (Trevere), since there can be traffic congestion on the road and rents in LUX are not exactly cheap (accomodation around HHN is quite cheap and there are many empty houses available, though, due to bad past experience, some landlords refuse to rent to RYR cabin crew).
General shopping (Groceries) is available in two supermarkets in Büchenbeuren or Sohren, about 5 km away from the airport.
The next towns with a series of shops are Simmern (20km), Kastellaun (20km) and Morbach (10 km) from the airport.
The next city is Koblenz at the river Rhine with department stores, boutiques etc., about 1 hr drive from HHN airport.
Then there are Mainz, Wiesbaden, Cologne and Frankfurt, between 1 and 1.5 hours drive away from HHN.
