GS

I've just finish training (yay), from my understanding they do all the references checks and everyone goes to executive review and they start culling from then on, unfornately patience is a virtue in this industry.:)

PhePheBox 3rd Feb 2012 02:23

hiya GC,

did you graduate yesterday on wednesday?

We started on tuesday, and our 7 long long weeks begin on monday for eps.

any tips / hints for eps?

GoldCoast1 3rd Feb 2012 03:01

GS

Hey,

Wednesday, Big TIP don't stress and if your not sure about anything ASK, the trainers are there to help clarify anything you don't understand.
Once you get through EP's, service training is alot more fun.

goodluck:)

marly 3rd Feb 2012 03:56

Just put in my application for MAM for perth

I don't know if I could handle 7 weeks away from my kids. But will have to cross that when the time comes i guess.

Anyone doing the training, when you have a spare moment could you fill us in on how it is going.
:D

Cabin_girl 3rd Feb 2012 05:07

GoldCoast1
congratulations:ok:
I start on 10th Feb and can't wait. Did you find the training intense and difficult? What was the hardest thing?
Thank for any info

They cull at each stage.

I was culled after the reference checks (3-4 months ago) and i got a random call last Wednesday saying they reviewed my application and would like to offer me a position pending executive approval.

I jumped medicals/security as I've already done it with Jetstar, of whom, I start with this Monday.

Hence my frustration, as If i don't hear, I have to start with Jetstar and then resign when/if exec. approval goes through.
But I'm not going to get out of Jetstar now on an " 'if' exec. approval is successful"

once again - :ugh:

Sydneysider88 3rd Feb 2012 05:30

Does mam know that you're starting with jetstar? Wouldn't they be a bit funny with you starting and knowing that? I have no idea how it works but if they know you start Monday, from a company point of view wouldn't they find it strange you'd start then leave?*

Like I said I have no idea. I just thought if one was offered 2 positions I'd keep it a secret to the other company vice Versa.*

But I guess you had no idea MAM was going to offer you a spot which you couldn't have done anything about it guess. Good luck though! :)

JacintaMerri 3rd Feb 2012 08:43

They should know. Qantas had to get my medical and security documents from Jetstar.

If they ask me than i'll speak openly and honestly about it.
I guess I'll find out on the first day!

Sydneysider88 3rd Feb 2012 09:03

Oh didn't read it properly yeah I'd guess they would know then!

Cabincrew88 4th Feb 2012 11:13

Ekk... Got my medical appointment on Monday hope it goes week and hear back from MAM quick :) read some of ur post an it seems quite a few people got their response within a couple of days from their medical... I hope I get that too so I can defer uni... :s

Does anyone here know what the ground school dates are like for feb and march?

JacintaMerri 4th Feb 2012 23:09

I'd say, if you're healthy inside and out and don't have any mobility problems than consider yourself passed.

Also, with uni, I'm pretty sure you won't be able to get the days off each week to go to school as you can only have X amount of days off in a row...maybe consider dropping out if you get an offer?

This is from the MAM website - 21. If I have another commitment (eg. University every Monday and Tuesday), can MAM arrange a roster to suit my days off?
A: No, you can only request 3 consecutive days off per roster month.

JacintaMerri 4th Feb 2012 23:23

@ Sydneysider88

I noticed you've applied for Virgin as well? Have you been offered a position for either? Or are you still in the processes?

Emma-loo 5th Feb 2012 00:24

Roster info

Hi guys,

Just wondering if you could help me I'm a bit worried about working as a casual and job security and definatly getting enough hours each month.

Do you always get rostered 20 days each month or can it be less if they don't need you? As you don't get paid if you don't work, just wanted to confirm this ?

Is it still correct that you have to take 4 weeks off all together once a year?

Thanks for the info

Cabincrew88 5th Feb 2012 03:39

JacintaMerri

Thanks for you advice :)

Yea that is my plan for uni... If I get offered I am going to put uni aside but as I have registered for next semester already I need to decide beore the 17th of March if not I will get charged and get a WD on my cert. so hopefully MAM tell me before then so I can withdraw before census dates :s

JacintaMerri 5th Feb 2012 04:34

December 17 this year?

Cabincrew88 5th Feb 2012 06:28

Oh I mean march 17th lol!

Does anyone know what the ground school dates are like for feb and march?

mangowaffles 5th Feb 2012 06:38

emma-loo

this is what ive been told from others who are currently working for MAM. you will get a guaranteed of 80 hours a month. it could be a mix of flying duties and home reserve, or even a whole month of home reserve if its a slow period. but remember, you will get paid for those home reserve (4 hours so about $120 or more).

so to answer your question, if they don't need you for flying duties, then yes they wont pay you because you are not working, but to make up your hours of 80 hours a month, they will most probably put you on home reserve, which then you will get paid even if you don't get called out.

so don't worry about it because im sure you will be fine financially =)

mangowaffles 5th Feb 2012 06:40

cabincrew 88

im starting GS this friday. there was also one for the 13th, but 2 of the people who were going to that one got moved up to Jan so im not sure anymore.

good luck for medicals!

JacintaMerri 5th Feb 2012 06:55

Cabincrew88

We may end up in the same GS!

JacintaMerri 5th Feb 2012 06:57

mangowaffles

Emma-loo 5th Feb 2012 06:57

Thanks for the info, that's a great help. I have updated my application today, so fingers crossed I get invited to an AD.

Good luck to everyone going to AD's soon and people waiting. ;)

Cabincrew88 5th Feb 2012 07:01

JacintaMerri

Hey I hope so too haha! I really hope I get in either late feb or early march! The earlier the better though haha!!!

Well medical tmrw so hopefully the end of the week some sort of response haha... Thinking very positive haha

mangowaffles 5th Feb 2012 07:28

i had to wait around 2 months before i got my call.. then after my call it was another 8 weeks until ground school so a long wait!

i had problems with my application though which is why i had to wait longer than everyone else. i lived and worked overseas for 2 years so they wanted to process that security check also before they approved me.

this is my timeline -

4 Oct - AD
10 Oct - got a call requesting additional info for reference check
11 Oct - Reference checks completed
20 Oct - Medical & Security email
26 Oct - Did Medicals, sent in Money for Security

waited for a long time - emailed them and they kept telling me it was waiting a security clearance. eventually found out that they werent aware that i'd sent them my overseas clearance before in previous emails. Then told me they would follow it up right away (this was around late november)

16 Dec - Golden call!
10 Feb - Ground school!!

Cabincrew88 5th Feb 2012 07:38

Mangowaffles

How long ago did u work away since you applied?

Cause I used to live in Singapore till I was 20 and now am 24 so guess my security check will take forever then? Lol

mangowaffles 5th Feb 2012 07:49

you should be fine.

its only if its within the last 12 months, and i only came back just last june so i had to provide one.

This is what they emailed me before i attended AD.

Most importantly, if you have resided and worked overseas in the last 12 months (not on a working holiday) you will be required to complete an overseas police clearance in that country (including NZ). If this applies to you please contact us for more information. We recommend you take the steps necessary to obtain the overseas police clearance (if applicable, to your circumstances) as soon as possible as waiting times can be lengthy.

i took care of it before i even went to AD because i thought it might've taken long for it to come back. It didn't but then recruitment forgot about it which is why i waited a little bit longer than others.

frustrating at the time (i think everyone knows how that feels... just waiting and not knowing anything lol) but it was worth it in the end and now i don't even remember all that waiting haha

Cabincrew88 5th Feb 2012 08:12

Mangowaffles

Thanks so much for ur advice :) let's see how it goes then ay haha :) keeping my fingers cross throughout!

Shelbs 5th Feb 2012 09:18

Like Marly & emma-loo have submitted an application for Perth.
Can anybody give me a heads up on the AD q&a's should I make it to panel? And do your references need to be a direct manager or can it be somebody else like a pilot or EP's instructor or owner? And any info on training school like accommodation is it shared? Length isit 7 weeks ground only or does that inc all in-flight training & check to line? do you go to home base for in-flight training & check to line? And what's the schedule like random hours? I wouldn't expect 9-5 cheers any info would be appreciated :ok:

mangowaffles 5th Feb 2012 10:32

shelbs

i havent started GS yet but have already been given the timetable for it so i'll let you know what i can see.

ground school is 7 weeks, give or take a few days. it will be conducted all in sydney, and looks like 1 day in melbourne. i dont think you will be trained anything in your home base, im from sydney though so i cant comment on that part as the interstate people may have been given different instructions to me.. not sure about accommodation either, sorry =/

the ground school hours are very random, some 8:30 starts, some 4pm starts, some 5:30am starts. i think one time a person told me that they started training at 3am and finished at 10 in the morning! nothing like that is on my timetable though. also, ground school is also conducted on weekends! with a few random weekdays off here and there.

good luck!

Cabin_girl 5th Feb 2012 11:56

Shelbs
I also start on 10th but have different timetable than mangowaffles. My earliest start is 5:30 am and the latest finish is 2:15 am, Melbourne for 1 day. Some days are not specified what time I start and finish like (uniform fittings).

As everybody has differnt timeline from AD to GS this is example of mine:
28.10. - AD
01.12. - Medical & Security email
15.12. - Medical (Sydney Jetbase) Thursday afternoon
19.12. - Golden call Monday morning
10.02. - GS
From my AD one girl got her successfull email 2 weeks earlier then me. She started her GS 9.12. and graduated last week.

mangowaffles
have you completed your online EP's modules?

Shelbs 5th Feb 2012 12:08

Thanks for the info guys, keep us posted on g/s if you get time - lol
Good luck

mangowaffles 5th Feb 2012 22:03

my last day of work was last friday so i have this week free to do it, might start today =)

marly 6th Feb 2012 00:24

AD booked for this friday
That was a pritty fast turn around onely put the application in late last week.
Have just done the hogan assessment online - very random and strange questions.

Sydneysider88 6th Feb 2012 01:18

What is with MAM. they are recruiting big time yet have so many people on wait lists and waiting to get placed. Why recruit when there's so many people waiting for GS's and to hear back for start dates. Seems strange. I know they want to sift through people and find the right people but to keep holding ADs and have new applications through all the time whilst having a backlog doesn't seem fair or feasible. Just weird.

Why not place people first and book GSs for those waiting. Then advertise later. Adding more in the system will just clog it more for those already waiting wouldn't it!?

CassieFlyGirl87 6th Feb 2012 08:00

I am attending the MAM recruitment day in Adelaide on 16th Feb, super excited! I can't wait to (hopefully) get to the stage a lot of you are at.

JacintaMerri 6th Feb 2012 08:13

Sydneysider88

Amen to that.

Sydneysider88 6th Feb 2012 08:19

It's true. More and more ADs keep coming up yet there's many many people waiting. It will only add to backlog and not fair if groups now supersede groups who applied last year and got through who are waiting for starts. How many people do they need then, because theyre going to either cull massively or have many GSs.

Strange strange.

JacintaMerri 6th Feb 2012 10:27

I completely agree with you...it's ridiculous what they're doing. They'll be losing a lot of valuable possible employees to other airlines or industries.

Maybe they just have a ridiculously high turn-over rate? They seem to have a GS starting every week or so! (feel free to correct!)

Or maybe they're just trying to build s huge applicant pool and not planning on hiring?

I guess we'll never know!

And p.s - my ground school started today! Looks like it's going to be fun! (but still no word from Qantas)

Hope89 6th Feb 2012 10:48

Yes I have to say that I agree too - at the Melbourne AD 3 weeks ago they said that we could be waiting for as long as 6 months to start training!! It's very strange... and gosh we all work so hard to get to this point too. I was told that "you WILL be called WITHIN the next 2 weeks" to organise reference checks and what not. But umm yeah... not a thing since. Do they even let us know if we didn't make it? :ugh:

Sydneysider88 6th Feb 2012 10:52

I hope they do let us know!
That's so strange at my ad in Sydney. We were told hey would let us know in 2-3 weeks if we got it and when training was. Load of crap I think. Just the standard talk. There are way too many applicants ATM.

So I'm not getting my hopes up to hear soon. If I do then I guess I'll be lucky :)

Hope89 6th Feb 2012 10:57

Yep that's exactly it Sydneysider88 haha! Goodluck! How long ago was your AD? mine was 3 weeks ago
