Ok, and that would be why 5 ex Skywest girls in the last year alone have been employed by Emirates. Not to mention others going on to QF and Virgin Blue.

Awesome have you ever actually worked for them, or are you just a pissed off passenger who's annoyed they crew are trained well enough not to serve you a 5th 6th or 7th can of beer on a 2 hour sector!!! (Unlike others in WA!)

Sure the pay isn't the best but it's not the lowest either. Not everyone has the luxury of being able to choose from offers from all the 'big airlines'. Many got their start at XR and many are still happy there after many years. It's what you make of it. If you think you're too good for working for a

then maybe consider that you DONT HAVE WHAT IT TAKES to work there and put up with the CHALLENGES that the role entails. It takes a certain kind of person to do those flights and believe me, you are not one of them. If you ever did work for them I'm pretty sure you won't ever have appeared on the Senior FA list with an attitude like that.

I'm not saying it's perfect, far from it, yes the planes are older, no they're not as glam... but... as I said before, there are far, FAR worse airlines to work for, and might I add, ones which I would never set foot on as I value my own safety too much.

You make yourself sound like a recruiter going on about what other airlines will or will not do. Wonder if my guess is right- sounds like someone didn't pass their 6 month probation period :E

Integrity before desperation? Yes- the reason I quit working for an airline (not Skywest) which wasn't up to CASA standard. Filed many a safety report so don't start on that aspect.

20 something? If by that you mean betweenthe ages of 20 and 29, then yes, that is correct. Not saying I'm special, just saying with an attitude as you seem to have I'd be surprised if you ever had, or would get, very far in any senior role requiring a bit of maturity.

As for what I'd do for my first cabin crew job?? Had it already, have had four actually, so don't even bother with that line of thinking. I didn't take the first thing offered, I considered all aspects equally. Moved on to Skywest because they offered a better home lifestyle for someone with a family.You seem to think I'm some wannabe about to join XR, far from it, been there, done that. Just setting a few things straight as you are posting quite a few ill-informed 'facts' on a public forum.

From the tone of your posts I seem to have hit a nerve, whether you admit to having worked for them or not, you either have or you wanted to, and weren't accepted, that's the strong impression you give out... ever heard the old saying if you don't have anything nice to say...

I never claimed Skywest were perfect.... but for those who would like an opportunity to fly.. what do you suggest they do? Wait until Emirates or Gulf come handing a job on a silver platter? Move o/s to work for BA or Virgin? Yet you say you wouldn't relocate for Skywest. Who would you relocate for then? Everyone has a different definition of a good job and while you're entitled to your opinion, so are those who have chosen to work for them. Leave them be to concentrate on ground school.

As for the training, if you think it's so bad, why don't you apply to conduct the ground schools? Oh yeah that's right.... you're too good for a regional airline.

I for one love the job I do for the company I work for. I am not shafted by my employer, and I get paid pretty well for what I do.

Others are not so lucky, but just like life, we have options. It's up to us to exercise our options as and when we see fit.

Good luck to the girls (and guys!) starting G/s this coming week.... as I said before... learn all you can... take the good, ignore the bad, and stay as long as it's working for you. Having said that, if you haven't flown before, please tough it out. You do need at least a year to get used to flying as it is a lifestyle and not just a job.

Awesome - at 41 years of age, I'd have thought that you'd have a bit more maturity.

The recruitment process to Australia's major airlines isn't at all easy to get through, and the selection process can be very subjective; you never know what each different recruiter is looking for, or what they will/won't see in you.

If, like many people on here, your dream is to work as CC, you don't always have the luxury of being able to pick and choose an airline which you want to work for, especially in Perth where you don't have the major bases.

I say congratulation to the girls who are working there, whether they have relocated or not. If it's not a company they want to work for in the long term, so what?! They get their foot in the door and will meet some lovely people along the way!

I think that most people in this thread will agree that, unless you have something CONSTRUCTIVE to say, don't say anything at all

Seems I've been busy busy and missed a bit. Looks like some posts have been removed but I guess I get the gist of what's been happening.

So... Just to add my 2 cents worth...

I'm VERY excited to be starting GS with Skywest tomorrow. I have been offered positions with other airlines back home in Melbourne. However, moving to Perth was something I wanted to do anyways. Skywest fits in perfectly for me as a newbie, the opportunity to live in WA, to get one step closer to my goals, and to work with an amazing group of people is awesome.

I spent some time in the Skywest office the last time I was in Perth. EVERYONE I met there was lovely. Not one person passed me by without a smile and to ask if I needed a hand. I was also pleased to see the way the staff all interacted with each other and that made me feel like I'm becoming a part of a bigger family.

Everyone makes career choices for various reasons and often a collaboration of many different factors. Being happy and loving your job, to me, is far more important than earning the big bucks. I've left higher paying jobs because the cost to my health and happiness, and that of my friends and loved ones, certainly outweighed the extra $$ I earned each month.

I wish everyone every happiness and encourage you all to do what you must for yourself and what makes you happy. Because at the end of the day if it works for you it really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. :ok:

I remember when i was going through all my interviews everyone was the same, offering help etc etc. (even had one girl whisper to another 'ooo he looks good' a little bit too loudly :}). lol. Just thought I'd say good luck Breeza!
I started flying with a "large regional airline" about 18 months ago and haven't looked back! Although it may not be as "glamorous" as the larger carriers working for a regional airline definitely has its perks!

I have met some of the most lovely passengers ( a lot of them country folk) since i started flying and due to the small passenger numbers a lot of the time you actually get the opportunity to sit down and get to know a few of your passengers and you may even get regulars from time to time! Working for a smaller company you'll probably find the crew tend be a lot more close knit and very friendly as it more like a family environment.
Regional flying is certainly nothing to "snuff" at, the lifestyle is just as good if not better than the larger carriers. ( and we still get decent staff travel benefits too!)

I have certainly heard postive things about skywest being a good company to work for with high staff moral. At the end of the day money will come and go but its the experience and your happiness that counts! " It's often the journey itself that brings us the most satisfaction not the end destination" :P

whoa! I havnt been on here in ages and ages (blame the study!) I just have to say that since I started, I havnt looked back and I am thoroughly enjoying Skywest. Everyone is very friendly, I have met so many great people since i started and i definately feel like i made the right choice moving to Skywest.

Breeza, I beleive today is your 20.11 day, so by the time you read this it will all be over and you can breath a sigh of relief...over the weekend! Haha, unfortunately the study gets way more intense (or so i found) during the line training but you will be fine. And it is definately worth it once you get checked-to-line. Goodluck!

I am SOOOOO excited I have an interview on the 18th Dec over in Perth for CC at Skywest. I have been to a QantasLink interview before- I only made it to the group interview (which I was happy about), but this time I am going to a panel interview- so scary!! LOL! Any tips from some Skywesters?? I have been reading up on Skywest, their routes, fleet etc, but I am so nervous and I don't want this to be a wasted, expensive expedition across the country for nothing. So any tips would be fantastic!

I have heard that Skywest will be recruiting again in March. Cobham is recruiting right now - they had a day on Jan 29 and are having another this Friday Feb 19 I believe. I went to the 29th one and was successful and my ground school is starting sometime in the later half of March :) Apparently they are holding the one this Friday because they still need more people. There were 18 people invited to my recruitment day and 12 got to stay for interviews. I don't know how many actually were offered a job though. I'd say at least 3 though just going by who seemed the most impressive and most likely at the RD.

Hi Guys, Pheonix86 here (forgot to log my partner off so it looks like he is posting this LOL),

I just got a call to take my medical for a FA job with Skywest! I'm so excited! It was well worth the big $$ to fly over from QLD for one night for my interview back in Dec 09. We have since moved to Perth to up our chances of employment (my partner is a pilot) and have both come into something now! I am yet to receive a start date though I imagine it wont be too far away. :-)

Anyone else on this next intake? :ok:
